Prepare To Fight
It was the next morning when Alpha Kain was finally able to speak to the Alpha King. After explaining the events of the previous night, a meeting was held. Although absent from the celebration feast, Alpha Nath attended the meeting. Logan had briefed him on what had happened. While Logan had sustained some minor injuries during the fight, Alpha Nath had not left his cabin after the demon witch had nearly killed him. To say he was shocked is a major understatement.
He had revived Virgo with the aim of controlling her, aspiring to make the Silvermoon pack the greatest and amalgamate with the Royal Pack to stabilize their power. However, he didn't expect her to not even give him face. He was starting to worry that he had made a big mistake. Despite the obvious red flags, he had been determined to revive her; in the end, it all felt surreal.
"I have moved my pack members to a safe zone in the event that she returns," Alpha Kain concluded.
The Alpha King nodded, "And you're sure she has gone in search of her core?"
Alpha Kain, recalling the missing key, replied, "The key to the vault that keeps her core was gone from my office last night."
The third elder of the council frowned gravely, "I will have to inform the council of these developments and request assistance."
"You can inform the council about the events, but do not trouble them for assistance," the Alpha King asserted.
Alpha Kain and the third elder looked at him in confusion.
"It is merely a disgruntled witch, abandoned by her lover and out to take revenge; there is no need to trouble the council. My Royal Pack will deal with such petty matters," the Alpha King explained.
Alpha Kain stiffened at the Alpha King's words. The third elder nodded, "If you say so, I shall leave now. Send word if any problem arises."
The Alpha King waved his hand, "There will be no need."
The third elder left, leaving only Alpha Kain, Alpha Nath, and the Alpha King.
"What is wrong, old friend? You seem distracted," the Alpha King asked. Alpha Nath raised dull eyes to meet his.
"I... I don't know," he rubbed his face. "Perhaps Logan's injuries worry me."
"Ahaha, don't be silly. The boy is not mortally wounded; he should be fit as a fiddle by noon," the Alpha King bellowed with humor.
"Yes, your Majesty, tis simply a father's restless heart. By the way, where is the Princely Heir? He has not been to see his friend since last night," Alpha Nath inquired.
The Alpha King's face darkened, and he spoke with distaste, "Who knows where the boy has run off to? Do you, Alpha Kain?"
Alpha Kain quickly shook his head, "No, sire."
The Alpha King shrugged, "Oh well, we will be leaving for the Royal Pack by noon. If he is not here by then, when he returns, do inform him to wait here until our reinforcements arrive."
Alpha Kain bowed, "Yes, sire."
As the Alpha King stepped out, Alpha Nath toyed with the silver dagger in his coat. Kill the Alpha King? Why? Was there still a point? If he made any wrong move, it would all be over. Yet, as he watched the King's back moving away, he stood up and followed him.
Alpha Kain watched as Alpha Nath followed the King, catching sight of the dark familiar gloves Alpha Nath wore—gloves worn when handling silver. Alpha Kain briefly wondered why Alpha Nath would have silver in his pocket. It was dangerous, even with a glove, and it scarred badly too. He recalled the scars the caretaker had shown him on his son's body. He didn't know what his son had gone through in his stubborn quest to find Aria.
He snapped out of his thoughts when he saw Alpha Nath pull out a silver dagger. It glinted wickedly in the morning light, and the way he held the dagger did not suggest anything good. Alpha Nath said something, and the Alpha King laughed, completely unaware of the threat to his life. Alpha Kain shot up and ran towards them faster than he ever had.
Alpha Nath raised the dagger high and stabbed forward. Just as it was about to pierce the Alpha King, Alpha Kain shoved him out of the way. Unfortunately, he inadvertently blocked the dagger with his body.
The Alpha King caught himself and swerved in thunderous rage. His shocked eyes took in the dazed Alpha Nath, with the blood-stained dagger in hand and the bleeding Alpha Kain.
Somewhere deep in the forests surrounding Clearwater, the dark-eyed woman opened her eyes and cursed, "Meddlesome bastard."
"Guards!" The Alpha King called. Several guards rushed over and suppressed Alpha Nath, holding him down and kicking the dagger away. Alpha Kain was helped up and rushed to the Pack hospital. The hospital was already packed with victims from last night's assault, and with no other choice, Alpha Kain was carried into an ambulance and given first aid. Luckily, the wound was not deep, and his life was not in danger.
Sinbad, who had just woken up, was informed of his father's condition. Against his caretaker's advice, he rushed to the hospital.
The doctor spoke to him privately, "Your father's injury is not life-threatening, but if he continues to push himself, then no one can help him."
"What?" Sinbad was confused. "Is my dad sick?"
"He is not sick in a sense, just tired. He is still flesh and bones; he needs to rest! I'm in no position to say this, but I advise you to take over temporarily as Alpha until he recovers. In a few more hours, the hospital will be cleared, and only a few doctors will remain for emergencies. It will be best if the Alpha comes with us."
Sinbad finally realized what was off with the pack. It was empty, even during the lockdown; the pack didn't feel so lifeless. What happened while he was asleep?
"What happened? Where is everyone going?"
"Last night, there was an attack by a large horde of ferals; many died, and even more were injured. The Alpha feared there would be a repeat, so we're heading to a safe zone until further notice."
After checking up on his father, Sinbad left to see the Royal entourage off. They left even earlier than planned despite the skirmish. The Alpha Nath, who had attacked the king, was in a cell in Clearwater Pack.
The Alpha King had said, "Alpha Kain was the injured party; he should do to his attacker as he sees fit."
Sinbad had a nagging feeling that the Alpha King wanted to pass responsibility to them, rather than conflicting with the Silvermoon Pack; he handed this hot potato to their small pack.
