Taken
Alpha Nath sat on a chair and watched the girl. Her clothes were bloody, but she sat serenely, watching him. They stared at each other. It had been this way since she absorbed the heart of Virgo. At first, he had been happy that the body was not rejected, but he wasn't even sure the transfer was successful because she wouldn't say anything. It had been a stalemate for two days.
Suddenly, she smiled—a creepy smile that looked entirely out of place.
"She's here."
Nath cringed at the sound of her voice. It was like nails dragged across a chalkboard.
"Who's here?"
He heard the doorknob shake. Realizing the door was locked, the intruder knocked. Nath turned to the girl. "Who's here?!" he asked urgently.
"Let her in."
"I will not let anyone in here, not until you tell..."
Whoosh. The door disintegrated. Alpha Nath stared in wide-eyed shock.
"You're next," the demon girl said.
There was a girl outside the door, her hands poised to knock, and she seemed surprised the door was gone. Still, she walked in. She glanced at both of them, then walked to the bed. She took off her top and singlet, revealing a black bra. Then she lay on the bed faced up and totally still.
The demon girl stuck her hand into her own chest and pulled out the heart of Virgo. Then she used a finger with wicked sharp nails and poked a tiny hole in the other girl's chest. She raised the heart of Virgo and began chanting.
Even as a werewolf, Nath could sense the throb of magic in the air. The demon girl finished chanting and squeezed the heart. Dark blood dripped out and into the other girl. Finally, the demon girl started stiffening. It was something Nath had seen often. The heart in her hand turned to dust.
Black smoke circled the second girl. When it cleared up, a woman with skin of a greenish-grey hue lay on the bed. She had on a black dress that looked like it walked through fire. Her black hair fell on her thin face. She looked peaceful and beautiful had it not been for her odd color.
Her eyes opened, and dark orbs stared at him. His heart skipped a beat.
She took a deep breath. "Mmm fear," she moaned, "delicious."
She vanished from the bed and appeared before him in a cloud of black smoke. "What are you?" she asked.
"I am Nathnel, Alpha of..."
"Alpha?" She hissed. She grabbed him by the neck and slammed him into a wall.
"Wolves are still alive then."
Alpha Nath struggled to breathe. His face turned purple; the witch watched him color with pleasure.
"I-I revived you," Alpha Nath croaked.
"Thank you," she said, her hand around his neck tightened. Just as his eyes rolled back, she released him. He coughed and rasped on the ground.
She opened the door and walked out. "Ahh sweet sweet undead air." Her expression turned frosty. "It's a pity you'll soon be tainted with the scent of blood."
She disappeared.
She stood in front of a door. Pushing it open, she walked into the familiar yet unfamiliar room. It brought back memories. It was Alpha Kain's office.
Her dark eyes scanned the room and finally rested on a picture. The woman in the picture was being hugged by Alpha Kain; they were both laughing, and her round stomach was obvious. The witch rubbed her own stomach as malevolence flowed from her.
She picked the picture frame and broke it. Clang, a metal key fell out. The witch smiled at the bone head key. He, Kain, was so predictable; it seemed like he never changed, except he now hated her to the bone.
She waltzed out of the office. She walked right past several guards, but other than twitching their nose a little, they didn't seem to notice her.
She vanished again to reappear in front of the feral holding, a small door. She walked in, through a hall she came to a door; she could feel the dark energies swirling inside. It was already nighttime, so the ferals were most active. The door turned to dust. Blood-red eyes turned to her.
"My babies, it's time for dinner."
Because the Alpha King concluded the feast quite early, there were still a few dishes left. Since it could not go to waste, they continued eating without him.
In the hall, Aria groaned slightly as Ares placed another piece of deshelled shrimp into her bowl. He had been picking food for her; it was fine when he did it while they were camping, but now everyone's eyes seemed to be boring into them, especially Sinbad's dad; he looked downright furious.
"Please stop," she whispered for the umpteenth time. Ares nodded as he placed a piece of fish into her bowl. Aria gave up and focused on eating.
Bang! The door flew off its hinges. Everyone turned to it. There was a snarl, then a scream, and ferals flooded into the hall. They were under attack!
A feral tore at a wolf. Some warriors at the feast rushed up to attack. The hall became chaotic in a matter of minutes. Garsam sprung into action too. She tore through ferals like butter. Alpha Kain joined in. Ares kept Aria behind him, and bolts of magic struck down any feral that came too close. In a corner, Lev and Ivy protected Jerry.
Aria stepped out from behind Ares. She focused her mind like Ares had taught her and targeted her scream at a particular horde of feral. They were flung through the walls and out of the banquet hall. Aria blinked. That was a good first start. She looked up at Ares. "I can take care of myself, so stop being on the defensive and attack."
Despite the number of ferals being killed, more kept pouring into the hall. When a feral knocked into Aria, it was too late to dodge. Ares chanted a spell, and the feral froze. Aria pushed it off her and muttered a 'thank you'; then she returned to fighting.
