The Evil Woman
I spent a few more hours in the meeting room alone, I kept going over the information Erik found on Gray's mum over and over again. Each time I read it I would become more convinced she was still alive, I just hope Gray takes all the information well too. I won't tell him until Erik is hundred percent sure the person he's visiting is Gray's mother, part of me hopes it is but another part doesn't. Gray will feel so betrayed if he discovers his mother has been alive this whole time and she never came home, at least with my parents I knew they didn't want to look after me and Kyle anymore, it gave me room to accept it. But Gray has had to try and accept the death of his mother, only to find out she could potentially still be out there.
I stare at the photo of the destroyed house in front of me, it was so similar to how Rupert's turned out. Maybe that's where Preston got the idea to burn Rupert's from. I still haven't heard anything from Erik yet which was making me nervous, he did tell me it would take a few hours to arrive there but it's been a few hours!
The door opening makes me jump and immediately close the folder as Gray pops his head in, he smiles as I slowly move the file to place it on my lap and out of his eyeshot.
"I have come to see if you are ready for dinner, are you hiding that folder from me?" He asks which makes me slowly start to panic a little.
"Oh this, i-it's just a file on your father, it's not important" I say not lifting the file up which I think is what he wanted me to do, he sends me a suspicious look walking further into the room.
I get out of my seat with the file still in my hands, I couldn't let him see this until Erik contacts me confirming what we know.
"My love, if it is not important let me see" he says but I shake my head starting to move backwards as I went, I knew I should have locked the door!
"It would be a total waste of your time, it's just more useless information on Rupert and your dad" I tell him thinking that off the top of my head, Gray being smart doesn't buy that excuse for even a second.
"Josh and I are building the case on Rupert, that information might be useful to us" he says continuing to take slow steps towards me while I took steps away from him.
"No, it's information you already know again a total waste of your time, Erik and I were just getting all the facts" I stumble across my words as I spoke, I was now in the corner of the room not being able to move anymore, I have to resort to holding the file behind my back so he wouldn't try to take it out of my hand.
"Clara, you are hiding something from me and I demand to know what it is" he calming says but I could tell he was growing rather annoyed with every step he took, I shake my head the file wedged between me and the wall.
"I can't tell you Gray, not yet" I say finally admitting to me hiding something, I wanted to tell him so badly but I just couldn't yet.
Before he could speak the phone on the desk begins to ring, I take look at the phone knowing only Erik had that number. Why isn't he mind-linking me?! Gray takes a look at me than back at the phone, before I could stop him he picks the receiver up while putting the phone on speaker.
"Clara, hey Clara are you there?" Erik's voice said through the phone, I walk over to take it but Gray stops me by taking my arm.
"Clara, what happened to ma'am? You are on first name basses now" he says in a deep tone looking me dead in the eyes, as Erik still continued to speak through the phone.
"Please Gray, it's something you're not gonna want to hear" I plead looking him the eyes, this doesn't make him feel better but actually causes him to get angrier.
"If it has something to do with my mate, then yes I want to hear it" he growls out his eyes even darker than before.
"Clara listen it's her, it's the Kings mother, I found her" Erik says which immediately caused Gray to freeze in place and just stare at me "I spoke with her for about an hour and she explained everything to me, Clara are you there?" Erik asks through the phone, I just look into Gray's eyes which just held confusion and a little sadness.
"I'm here but so is Gray, he heard it all" I say towards the phone, my eyes still on Gray who's face hadn't changed.
Erik was silent for a second understanding what just happened, Gray's eyes well up with tears which he attempts to shake away.
"I will leave you two to talk" Erik's voice says before he hangs up, the only sound filling the room was the long beep from the phone when it hung up.
Gray holds his finger up walking around the room silent for a second, I go over to the phone putting back on the hook making the sound stop. He paces around the room with his hands on his hips thinking, he shouldn't have found out in that way.
"What did he mean when he said he has found my mother and, had an hour conversation with her?" He asks finally looking over at me, he still had tears in his eyes but was hiding it with the hint of anger in his face.
"As you know Erik and I are building a case on your father, obviously your mother would come up and when she did, Erik found some information that didn't make sense" I begin to explain as he looked at me from across the room "he started to look into that information to try and make sense of it, this is when he found evidence that your mother survived the fire that night" I say dropping the huge bombshell on him, he shakes his head walking to look out the window.
"I saw her walk into that house, then just a few minutes later I saw that house blow up!" He exclaims causes me to jump a little.
"I know you did and I was just like you when Erik was explaining it to me earlier, but then I had a read through the evidence he had and it's all there Gray, your mother didn't die in that fire, she went out of a back door and ran off into the woods minutes before the house blew" I explain while he continued to shake his head "Erik somehow managed to track down the location of where she's hiding, as you just heard, it's her and she's explained what happened to Erik" I say looking down as I spoke feeling really bad, I should have told him before and not like this.
"I found out a few hours ago and it's what I was just reading about when you walked in, I didn't tell you just in case Erik was wrong and I made you believe your was mum alive but really she was dead an-" I begin to ramble but he stops by holding my hands in his as I look up at him "I'm sorry I didn't tell you" I say while he looks to the side for a second.
"This is not your fault my love, you were just protecting me" he says rubbing my cheek with his thumb but looks down.
"It's my job" I smile copying what he told me this morning, this makes him smile a tiny bit "you get to choose whatever happens next, if you wanna meet her you can if you don't, then you don't have to" I smile which makes him look up at for a second.
"That is out of the question until Rupert is tracked down, it is not safe for you to be outside this house until that point" he says his face turning angry once again, I didn't know if that was due to Rupert or his mother at this point.
"I could wait here with the guards while you-"I begin to say but he cuts me off.
"I am not leaving your side until that man is captured, she was able to be away from her son for over ten years, she can handle a few more weeks and that's if I do want to have a meeting with her at all" he tells me looking angry once again, I smile placing a kiss on his nose causing the smile to appear on his face once again.
"You have been in this room the entire day, I can only assume you haven't eaten in that time so, let's put that evil woman in the back of our minds and enjoy dinner shall we" he smiles holding his arm out, I smile taking his arm where he leads me out the room and towards the dinner hall, for our first dinner in the safe house.
But that "evil" woman would be a topic of conversation after dinner, we would also be seeing her sooner than Gray expected.
