Not Your Fault
TW- This chapter involves suicide, if that is something that triggers you, please skip this chapter.
I remain alone in the dark warehouse for a few minutes, I was pulling at the tight ropes that held my hands together but it was no use. I also kept trying to mind-link Gray but it never went through, whatever chemical Rupert held to my face has done something to my wolf. It was eerily quiet which made my stomach turn, I didn't know where he took Lizzy or what he was doing to her.
A few more silent minutes go by until the door opens once again, Rupert walks in alone which again just makes me sick to my stomach, where's Lizzy?
"Now that's taken care of" he smiles knelling down in front of me, I didn't know what was going through his head but I didn't like it "me and you are gonna go for a drive" he smiles pulling the knife out his pocket freeing me from the chair.
He takes my arm pulling me out the warehouse, I knew I just had to play along with whatever he was planning, which I was still clueless about! Once the door to the warehouse opens I see a car parked outside, I begin to look around in hopes to catch a glimpse of Lizzy or even an indication on what's happened to her but I saw nothing. I'm taken over to the car where he opens the passengers seat, he tells me to climb in which I do not wanting to put up any fight whatsoever. I start to look around the back of the car in hopes of seeing Lizzy but again nothing, please don't say he's seriously hurt her.
He quickly climbs in his side of the car with a smile on his face, I send him a tiny one back that wasn't real at all but he had my life in his hands. He starts the car and begins to drive us away from the warehouse and towards who knows where, he kept looking over at me smiling then turns back to the road.
"Where are you taking me?" I ask wanting to know the answer but also not wanting to, I was scared he was gonna take me somewhere to hurt me.
"To where it all started" he mutters turning a sharp corner, his face changed a little when answering that question, it was as though he didn't have an expression.
We drove in silence for a few minutes, I was terrified and didn't know how to fully piece a sentence together. I haven't a clue what was going through Rupert's head, this wasn't part of his plan I assume so he's probably going over what he must do. We begin to pass a bunch of tree's and actually turn off the main road, we didn't turn down another road but were actually driving through what looked like a little forest. The car was bouncing around all over the place, there were times I thought the car was going to get stuck.
"You remind me so much of her" he randomly says after being silent, I look over at him not fully understanding what he meant "you're so kind just like she was, you're so brave just like she was, you even have the same smile" he sighs looking over at me for a second, we continue to bounce up and down as the forest just got thicker and thicker.
"Who?" I ask looking over at him as something shining in the far distance catches my eye, at least I know we're probably heading towards something! It was now getting around twilight time, this made the experience even more chilling.
"Ellie" is all he says as the car starts to make some weird noises, after a few more seconds we come to a halt.
Rupert curses smacking the steering wheel repeatedly in anger, after the whole rage episode he places his head on the steering wheel with his eyes closed for a second. I stay there looking around at the surrounding area, but I couldn't see anything that would give me a clue about where we were, all there were was trees upon more tree's. He opens his door getting out going back to the boot, he spends a few minutes there before coming to my side of the car. But what he had over his shoulder terrified and kind of answered one of my questions, Lizzy was dangling over his shoulder as he opened my door.
I climb out as he instructed me to do before I'm led deeper into the woods, his hand was holding tightly onto my arm while his other was keeping Lizzy on his shoulder. In my mind I was going over multiple escape routes but none of them involved me helping Lizzy, there was no part of me that wanted to leave her. Who's to say if I do run and he catches me I won't end up like Lizzy? Right now I'm on his good side which is somewhere I want to stay through this.
In what feels like forever the tree's start to thin out, the source of the light I saw back in the car was from a little lantern on a pole, you know those really old street lamps. A huge lake stood in the middle of the open field, it had one of those wooden docks that you could possibly fish from. This is when it hits me, Gray said that Matilda was killed at the lake not far out from the castle, Rupert was there when it all took place which is one of the reasons Preston burned his house down. This is where it all started!
He continues to pull me towards the lake and onto the wooden dock, once we got to the end he dumps Lizzy with a thud onto the floor. This caused the whole dock to wobble and shake, there's no telling how old this dock is, let's hope he doesn't continue to dump heavy things onto this dock. It was approaching autumn which meant it wasn't as hot as it's been, the water would not be that warm especially at night!
He walks me to the side telling me to sit down, I do as I'm told where he gets another thick rope out his pocket and ties my already tied hands to one of the posts. Once I was securely stuck he stands up, he places his hands on his hips just staring out into the open water.
"You know this is where it all happened, it is such a beautiful place which makes it sad that all the events put a damper on it" he says still just taking in the view.
"What are we doing here Rupert?" I ask finally starting to feel more confident to talk to him, he just sighs knelling down in front of me.
"This was never gonna be the plan but she had to open her mouth" he says looking back at Lizzy, I hadn't saw her move yet which terrified me that she was badly hurt "I'm sorry you've been brought into this, I would let you go but I know you'll just go back to your mate and stop me from doing what has to be done" he sighs placing his hand on my cheek as like he did back at the warehouse, I once again wanna move back but I know it's probably best I don't.
"Please whatever you're planning you don't need to go ahead with it, just let me and Lizzy go and I'll tell Gray not to try and find you anymore" I suggest trying to reason with him, I knew if that happened Gray wouldn't stop until he caught him.
"It's too late for that, don't worry Clara I'm not going to hurt you, you're so much like Ellie there is no way I could bring myself to hurt you, but her" he says once again looking back at Lizzy, that's what I'm most afraid about "me and her are finally going to do what's right after all these years, I just need you to promise me you won't let Ellie's memory die, people need to remember her for the incredible person she was and not for what's about to happen" he sighs the tears once again forming in his eyes, this just made the horrible feeling grow stronger and stronger, you'd only tell someone that if you were planning on not being around anymore.
"Please Rupert, we can sort everything out you don't need to do whatever you're about to" I plead mostly for Lizzy and well for Gray, he can't loose his mother again after just getting her back, he hasn't even had a full conversation with her yet.
"It's what needs to be done Clara, please just say you'll promise me" he says both of his hands now on the side of my cheeks, I nod my head slowly with tears rolling down my cheeks in hopes if I agree it'll give me more time.
He smiles placing a kiss on my forehead before rising to his feet, he once again looks out into the distance before saying he needed to get some stuff from the car. I watch him leave walking back into the thick tree's, once he was out of sight I start to pull at the ropes hoping to loosen them a little.
"Lizzy, please you need to wake up before he gets back, I have a really bad feeling that he's gonna hurt you please" I cry stretching my foot out to move her a little, I couldn't let her be taken like this "please Lizzy, Gray needs you he can't loose you again, just wake up please!" I beg just repeatedly kicking her I needed her to open her eyes, I didn't know how much time I had until he came back.
Through my kicks I see her eyes open slightly, this makes me smile telling her she needed to run and get help but she looked as though she was about to close her eyes again.
"Lizzy no, Gray needs you!" I once again start to cry, I couldn't let her close her eyes again!
"N-no he doesn't, he has you" she mutters out her eyes beginning to close "lo-look after my baby boy for m-me" he says before her eyes fully close and she's gone again.
"No please wake up!" I cry as I see movement in the tree's and out walks Rupert, he had what looked like bags of rocks in his hands.
He sends me a smile as he begins to tie some of the bags of rocks on Lizzy's feet, that's when it clicks in my head, no no no!
"Rupert please you don't have to do this, if you stop right now I can sort all this out okay, I'll get Gray off your back I'll get everyone off your back, I can get you a nice house somewhere away from this place, this isn't the answer" I start to plead with him but he shakes his head, moving to tie the bags of rocks to his own feet.
"Even if I would be away they still follow Clara, don't worry none of this is because of you" he smiles up at me before looking back down at his feet "I just need you to keep the promise with me okay?" He asks rising to his feet looking back out at the water, then down at Lizzy.
"I will keep the promise anyway, we can tell Ellie's story together please you don't have to do this" I beg him once again but he shakes his head just like he keeps doing.
"That's something you need to do alone" he smiles before reaching down to get Lizzy, she was much heavier now due to the rocks but he manages to pick her up.
He takes slow steps towards the edge of the dock looking back at the water, he sighs turning back to look at me.
"Please Rupert, Ellie wouldn't want you to do this please, think of her!" I cry pushing hard against the ropes to get free but I couldn't.
"Thank you Clara, you've been so kind to me, you don't understand what that has meant, remember this is not your fault" he smiles before he jumps from the dock, a huge splash just makes me scream out his name over at over again.
"Rupert! Lizzy! No! No!" I scream out as the bubbles that popped up from the water stopped.
"No!" I cry falling to the side just crying uncontrollably, alone in the cold autumn night.
