Goes Nothing
It was the next morning, the day of Preston's trial. I thought going into this I would be more nervous, but I actually wasn't. We had Cyrus and my dad for starters, we have down some intense research on him and he even confessed! We knew for definite that he'd get some time for Matilda and we have so much evidence on all the other crimes, this is gonna be a clean sweep!
I got dressed into my most sophisticated outfit but also, not too sophisticated. I knew this was my last day staying here with my parents, they were being moved into a different house after the trial. One because this is just a safe house and is not made for constant living and second, Cyrus came here yesterday so they wouldn't be safe away from him, even though I'm having guards watch his every move.
I walk down the stairs that opened to the living room, my mother was tying my dads tie like I had to do with Gray last week. Speaking of Gray, I actually missed him a lot, it's true what they says distance makes the heart grow stronger. I know we have to talk about what happened at some point, but I don't have any negative feelings towards him, I know he did what he thought was right at the time, I can't fault him for that.
Now back to my parents, this has to be the smartest I've ever seen them dress, my dad was in a full three piece suit! My mum wore a black dress which really showed off her figure, my mother always looked nice when we were growing up. Kind of like Cyrus's mate in that way, she always knew what the latest trends were! They look over smiling at me as the door knocked, I already knew it was Erik so I shout for him to come in.
Erik always looked smart but today, he put a lot of effort in I could tell. He looked nervous as he makes his way in, at first I was worried something bad had come up in the case but like he knew what I was thinking, he shakes his head at me with a smile, well that's a relief!
"Today's the day" he smiles over at me, I honestly don't think he's spoken to my parents much especially, my father "if everyone sticks to their stories and no surprises emerge, we should be fine" he continues, my whole life has been full of surprises, so there's nothing new there really.
We have a little final talk about the minor details before it was time to leave, my dad looked so nervous but my mother was doing a good job reassuring him. Erik and I were out first, two cars stood outside the house waiting for us, one had guards surrounding it so I knew that one was for me. I have to admit being away from the castle and the intense Queen life has given me time to think, yes there are times when you get so stressed out you feel like pulling your own hair out, but there are also so many times which I fallen in love with. For instance, when I go to meet with people everyone around gives me the warmest welcome, especially, the children. I love seeing their little faces light up when I walk over, they always have flowers for me and sometimes photos that they've made, I have a whole room just dedicated to them. It's a hard job to fulfil, but one I wouldn't trade for the world.
I snap out my thoughts when a third car pulls up, I take a look to Erik who looks confused as it comes to a stop. The door opens and out walks Kyle, I didn't know he was due to come here, I didn't even know he knew where our parents were staying. I'm soon wrapped in a tight hug, I knew this was his worried hug.
"Please don't ever do that to me again, I got a call from Grayson a few days ago saying you had ran away" he says holding me tightly while explaining, that's why I came to my parents house instead of Kyle's pack, I knew that would be the first place Gray would check.
"I just needed a few days break, I've been staying with mum and dad" I say as we pull apart, he looks behind me obviously at our parents.
"Thanks for looking after her" he says looking at them for a brief second, I give him a look surprised that he even started the conversation, and thanked them!
"You don't have to thank us, looking after you two is something we should have been doing for years" my dad says which I didn't know if Kyle would like to hear to be honest "you look great by the way son, much more tougher in a way since we last seen you" my dad smiles trying to make conversation, but what he was saying was true.
"That's what being an Alpha of a pack does to you" Kyle smiles back over at them, they're getting on! I never thought I'd see the day! "Grayson invited me to come, he thought you seeing a familiar face in court would help you" Kyle says turning his attention to me, I think that was a long enough conversation with our parents for now.
"Talking about court, we better get going" Erik says looking down at his watch, whoa I did forget about the court for a second.
In no time we were all sat in the car heading to the court, but most importantly Gray. We soon pull over maybe a mile out from the court, we didn't want people catching on to me being a part of the trial. Erik, Kyle and I were gonna walk in, while my parents arrive in the car.
We walk in silence most of the way, I think the nerves were finally settling in, especially for me and Erik. I was very much glad that Kyle was here, I don't know why but when he's around I feel some much calmer, I think it's due to the fact when we were little he always calmed me down, he has and always will be my support system. The courthouse soon comes into view and I'm in shock when I first see it, I thought there were a lot of people at Daisy's trial, it does not compare to the amount of people stood there now. We decide to go around so it would look like we came from the castle, rather than some other random place, halfway Erik and Kyle spilt off to get Kyle a pass for the court. This left me walking over alone where I spot someone, Gray was stood alone looking at his shoes. He senses I'm there and immediately looks up at me, I send him a little smile making my way over, he meets me in the middle just looking down at me.
"Long time no see" I smile looking up at him, this makes his smile a little but I could tell he was worried "I just want to say, I understand why you did what did, you were just looking out for me" I say taking hold of his hands, he wastes no time holding them back tightly "I also know that as King there are things you can't tell me, but I just hope if anything happens like that again you talk to me, we can both come up with a solution" I smile which he immediately nods to, this was when I realised that he hadn't spoken yet.
"I promise my love, that will never happen again, I just saw red when he disrespected you-" he starts to ramble until I place a kiss on his nose, this immediately makes him stop and smile "please, never run away from me again, you will not understand the pain I endured when you left, it is a pain I never wish to endure again" he says, I could hear the pain in his voice as he spoke.
"I think you've leant your lesson" I laugh wrapping my arms around his neck, he pulls me closer his hands holding my waist "now are you ready to prosecute your father?" I ask with a raised eyebrow, that's not something many people say or hear in their lives.
"I am ready to put him and every negative event that has happened in these last few months, behind us" he says while placing a kiss on my lips, once we pull apart I hear my name being called.
I'm immediately wrapped in another hug, at first I was unsure at who it was, but I soon realise it was Daisy. I haven't saw her since her trial, but this is also the first hug we're having in months.
"I can't thank you enough Clara, without you I wouldn't be standing here right now, you risked everything to help me in court" she cries as we pull apart, I just smile shaking my head.
"I was just repaying the favour, you risked everything that day to save me from Rupert, I could never thank you enough" I smile as Kyle and Erik make their way over, Kyle had a blue lanyard around his neck, that must be his pass.
"You two will be sat beside each over in court" Erik explains looking at Daisy and Kyle, they both nod before walking away into the court.
"Ready to do this?" Erik asks me with a smile, I take a look to Gray who smiles holding his head out.
"As ready as I'll ever be" I reply before taking Gray's hand, we begin to make our way into the court with Erik and Josh behind us.
Here goes nothing!
