Horrendous
It was silent for what left like an eternity, Gray and I stood outside the door just staring at the women inside the door, who was also just looking back at us. No one dared to make the first move, I run my thumb over Gray's knuckles to show him I'm here but also in hopes to snap him out of it. It works and he begins to lead me into the room, the guard bows their head at us before leaving the room closing the door behind them. The stand off only continued, no one dared to move or even talk for a few seconds. Thankfully, Gray's mum spoke up.
"My baby look at you, you won't believe how much I've missed you" she says tears welling up in her eyes as she spoke, she then turns her attention to me stood beside Gray "you must be his mate, oh my you're so beautiful" she smiles at me, I send her a smile back at her kindness.
"Thank you, I'm Clara" I smile wondering if I should shake her hand, but before I could Gray gives my hand a little squeeze indicating he didn't want me to do that.
"Enough of the greetings and the I miss you's, if you did miss me as you claim, you would have came out of hiding to on your own accord, but you waited until my mate tracked you down" Gray says with an emotionless face, I could see through it though, she went to speak but Gray cuts her off before she could "I always thought you were different mother, but you are just like father" he scoffs at her and once again, when she tries to speak he shakes his head at her.
"Gray, you have to let her talk" I say looking up at him, he looks down at me slowly nodding but doesn't make eye contact with his mother.
"Gray? You always hated when people called you Gray, you would say I'm not a colour" his mum laughs which actually makes me look up at him, okay that's new information.
"There is only one person on this planet that is allowed to call me Gray and that is Clara, I love when she addresses me by that, if anyone else tries to they will not like the consequences that follow" he corrects her but that doesn't make me feel better, maybe I need to stop calling him that.
"Please just listen to me, there was no way I could stay even a day longer with your father after Matilda, the only reason I stayed with him that long was for you, as soon as you were old enough, I left" she says but Gray laughs and shakes his head.
"You waited until I was old enough, I was fourteen!" He shouts which causes his mother to flinch a little, I grab hold of his arm in an attempt to stop and calm him down a little "if you cared that much you would not have left your only son to believe you were dead! All you thought about was yourself mother, as I stated before you are just like father perhaps even worse, at least he stayed and didn't act as though he died!" He shouts even louder than before, woah okay he's mad, I once again try to pull at his arm but it wasn't working.
"Maybe what happened to Matilda was the best thing that could have, she had a lucky escape from such a horrendous mother as yourself!" He shouts even louder, I take a glance over to his mother who was just in floods of tears, this has gone too far.
"Gray you need to calm down, shouting like this isn't helping anything" I say walking in front of him pushing his chest, I was hoping if I use myself as a block in between them he might calm down a little.
"Listen to your mate! I just came here to talk not fight with you please!" She cries from behind me, Gray let's out a growl trying to move passed me.
"She has a name! She's ma'am to you!" He growls which proves he isn't going to calm down like I hoped, she somehow really hit a nerve.
If this conversation doesn't end soon I worry this might turn even uglier, I wouldn't be able to pull Gray off his mother if he went to attack. I turn so my back was now against him and I was facing his rather terrified mother, she stood in the middle of the room hugging herself crying uncontrollably.
"I don't know if having this meeting now was such a good idea, I think it's best for everyone if you leave and come back when he's a little calmer" I suggest but she shakes her head at me still crying, it isn't like I'm suggesting this for me it's for her!
"No I lost him for over ten years now, I don't want it to be another ten" she cries as Gray one again growls, this time though I couldn't make out what he was trying to say.
"Okay listen to me, I promise I will reach out to you soon okay, maybe you and I could have a conversation and I'll try to sweeten up this guy into having one, just trust me okay" I say looking her dead in the eyes to prove I was telling the truth.
She looks back at Gray who was just getting angrier as the seconds tick by, than she turns her attention back down to me who was still trying to hold the tank back. She nods a little wiping a few tears, I shout to a few of the guards which I hoped were still outside. They immediately run in and over to the woman, in seconds she and the guards were out the door leaving me with the angry King.
Once the door closed I turn to look up at Gray, he looked angry but what took me by surprise were the built up tears in his eyes. I reach up placing my hands on both sides of his face, his eyes still remained on the closed door his mother just exited from.
"Well that could have gone better" I say looking up at him, he just sighs one of the tears falling down his cheek, I take my thumb wiping it away "we can try to have that conversation another time" I suggest which causes me to look down at me finally, shifting his focus from the door.
"Did you hear that woman, all she did was claim how awful she has been doing and how she missed me, I have had to endure so much more pain and suffering than she has this last decade!" He says still angry but I could tell it was slowly starting to fade a little, it was now being replaced with a little sadness.
"The first meetings with lost love ones are always the hardest, by the tenth maybe you'll be hugging!" I say cheerfully trying to cheer him up a little, he just scoffs looking to the side "you need to at least try Gray-son" I say adding in the final part, it felt so weird to say his full name, he looks down at me quite shocked at first.
"You address me as Gray not Grayson" he corrects me but I give him a look and little shake of the head.
"Your mother said you didn't like that so I'll stop, if you didn't like the name I would have stopped if you told me" I tell him but he growls shaking his head, he picks me up in his arms so our faces were level with one another.
"I love when you call me Gray, the first time you addressed me by that name I was so overjoyed, it was proof that you were growing more comfortable being around me after the rocky beginning, whenever I hear you call me Gray it makes my heart so happy, you are never going to stop calling me Gray" he tells me which makes tears begin to well up in my eyes, I do remember how scared I used to be around him but now here we are, I have never been happier.
"We have come a long way" I smile wrapping my legs around his torso as I spoke, he holds me tighter having to look up to me for once.
"I would never change it for the world" he smiles placing a kiss on my lips but he pulls away his face blank, mind-linking ruining the moment!
"I have some news, we are able to go back home to the castle my love, do not worry I have ordered the guards to go over their rounds hundreds of times until I even considered us returning, we have many more security measures which will secure your safety" he informs me, I got a little scared at first but I shake it off, I trust Gray will look after me.
"I will be by your side loving and protecting you forever and a day, I promise" he smiles as I place my forehead on his "now where were we?" He asks with a smirk, I just laugh along with him.
