Some Space
I arrive home in no time, I head straight to the bedroom where I lock the door behind me. I needed to be left alone for a while to try and process what just happened, if that was even remotely possible to do. I begin to pace the room, I was trying to come up with an explanation but I found none! Why would Erik do something like that? The dude was literally just trying to tell me about his brother, who apparently worked with me at the beginning. This causes me to rack my brain to try and remember anybody who doesn't work for me anymore, I mean there's been a ton of guards who have worked with me for awhile, could one of those men be the one he was talking about? I just don't know!
The door handle moving is what breaks me from my pacing thoughts, once the person realises the door is indeed locked, they begin to knock.
"My love, open the door" Gray's voice comes from the other side of the door, I freeze in place just staring at the closed door "please we need to talk about what occurred back there" he pleads still knocking at the door, I don't walk over to the door but walk to sit on the bed.
"I know what you witnessed was terrifying and all you want is answers, I will give them to you" he says but I shake my head looking down at the floor, then over at the balcony window.
Without thinking I jump up and run to the cupboard, I needed to have some distance with this place. Since I've arrived here, I haven't had a break or a stress free life, I just need that right now. I start to pack a bag as the door continues to knock, it seemed to be raining which meant I'm going to need a coat. I slip one on before tiptoeing out, Gray was still knocking at the door asking me to open it as I inch closer to the balcony. I take ahold of the handle slowly pulling it open, it let out a small creek noise which causes me to freeze.
I turn back to the bedroom door hoping he wouldn't kick it down, once I was satisfied he didn't hear it and was indeed still there I take slow steps onto the balcony. The cold night air hits me along with the little drizzle of rain, I hear him try the handle once more which tells me I need to do this now or never. I sit on the ledge of the balcony pulling my legs over the top, once I take a look down I see how far off the ground I really was. I take a hold of the drainpipe that runs down the castle, I climb onto it like a fireman's pole and start to slide down. It took a few seconds but I soon arrive safely onto the ground, I take a look up at the high balcony which Gray luckily, wasn't standing on.
The hardest part was over but I now had to try and slip through the guards, they had upped the guard presences which meant this was going to be much harder. I had the dark on my side which meant I could kind of blend in, this is when I realise that they'd probably catch my scent and know someone was out there. I learnt in the school, when I actually could attend it, that you can mask your scent by rolling in mud but the rain also helps.
I take a look down at the wet mud and decide against it, I'd just have to use the rain. I start to walk away from the castle and through the tall grass that surrounds it, I make it a few meters before I spot the first guard. He was walking up and down searching the surrounding area, I crouch down hiding in the grass hoping he wouldn't be able to see me. He continues to walk up and down not looking like he wasn't going to move anytime soon, this isn't good, if I stay here long enough Gray will catch me.
I look around the grass and spot a stone laying on the floor, I pick up and chuck it so it hit the side of the castle wall. This causes the guard to look up and run over to where the rock hit, I took this window and bolted away from the castle and passed where the guard would have been standing.
Surrounding the castle is just thick woods that span for miles, I knew if I got deep enough into them it would be hard for anyone to track me, especially, with the rain masking my scent. I was a few miles into the woods when I hear a howl, instantly I knew it was Gray howling from the balcony. This causes me to run even faster knowing he was now trying to track me, I didn't even ask my wolf for help knowing what her response would be.
"I'm not helping you run from mate" she scoffs answering the question I didn't even ask, the way I knew she would.
I didn't need her opinion right now so I block her out while still running, I won't lie and tell you that I had a plan cause I really didn't. I jump over a log that was in the middle of the wood, in the process I feel something slip out of my bag. I didn't have time to stop and get it, who was to know where Gray was and if he's been able to track my scent.
"My love, please come back we can talk" Gray's voice fills my head, but I just block him out continuing my run "I know I have messed up but I need you, please come home" he begs, for a second I contemplated turning around but I shake my head once again.
"I need a break Gray, just give me a few days"I respond before putting a tougher block up, I knew I needed to be back for Preston's trail, but until then I needed some space.
I ran for maybe an hour more until I reach my destination, I was dripping wet, freezing and totally out of breath when I knock on the door. Not even a minute later the door opens, the person stood there with a shocked expression.
"Clara, what are you doing here, are you okay?" My dad asks worry filling his face, my mum appears behind him as tears just start to leak from my eyes, mostly disguised by the rain.
I shake my head walking over wrapping my arms around him, he immediately holds me tightly in the middle of the doorway, as I just cry.
