Witnesses
After dinner we were just sat in the bedroom in silence, there's not much you can do in when it's light while here. It's too dangerous to go outside in the day in case we're recognised, which means we're stuck in this house all day. I sat on the bed while Gray took off the "normal clothes". At dinner we have a rule that we don't mind-link anyone and phones are off, that way we have each other's undivided attention. I assumed he would be quiet and not want to talk due to his mother, he was actually the opposite and was so talkative and happy which was shocking, but it did make me happy to see him happy after the last few days.
"I can guess that your dinner is over as I'm not being blocked out, sorry I had to drop the bombshell to the King over the phone but mind-link wouldn't work out there, I've just left but she's joining me and wouldn't take no for an answer" Erik voice says through mind-link, I take a look at Gray who was still changing his clothes.
"I don't know if Gray's gonna want to see her, he didn't take the news well and kept calling her the evil woman" I explain as I snap back out of it I see Gray looking at me, I sigh knowing I can't lie about who I'm talking to.
"It's Erik, he's just left your mum but she came with him, she refused to stay behind" I say which makes him so angry he punches the wall, woah not the reply I thought I'd get!
"She is not coming here! Her husband has already put my mates life in danger, I am not having both of my conniving parents do the same!" He shouts full with rage, I go to speak but he does before I could "with the anger I am feeling now, she does not want to come within a foot of me or you!" He growls out, I guess that answered my question.
"Update, you're gonna have to drop her back off where you found her, Gray doesn't want to see her" I inform Erik of Gray's decision, but he's quick to respond.
"That's not going to be a option Clara, she is saying she isn't going anywhere until she speaks to her son" Erik says panicking, he actually sounded scared which was a new emotion for him.
Even in the car crash he sounded relatively calm, I hope she's not hurting him or anything he's just doing his job.
"My mother is refusing to leave isn't she?" Gray asks which causes me to send him a nod, his face goes blank for second which meant he was mind-linking someone "I have dealt with the issue" is all he says as he snaps out of it, I sat there shocked for a second not understanding how he would have dealt with it while stood there.
"What did you tell Erik to do?" I ask looking up at him, I know he's angry but I don't want him to do something he'll regret later.
"He is dealing with the problem, that is all you need to know my love" he says once again leaving me with nothing, I'm getting a bad feeling about this situation.
"You might be angry now but she's your mother Gray-" I try to say but he shakes his head turning to look out the window, the sky was getting rather dark.
"No my love, my mother died over ten years ago" is all he says not turning around for even a split second.
What has he done?
The next morning
Gray still refused to tell me what happened last night, I would try and mind-link Erik but he would never answer. I hope he didn't order Erik to hurt his mother in anyway, maybe he'll be okay with that now but down the road, he will most likely regret it. I was sat in one the offices with Gray while waiting for Erik, I hope when I see him in person he'll tell me even the tiniest of details about what happened.
Gray acted as though nothing had happened, he was just good old Gray getting on with his work. This did provide me with a small glimmer of hope that he just had Erik drop her home, but why wouldn't he just tell me that?!
"I have an update on the castle my love, the repairs to our bedroom are completed and the guards are now getting to fixing the rounds, if that all pans out we can go home soon" he smiles over at me but that didn't make me feel better, I don't know if I feel safe enough going back if no one knows where Rupert is "you do not have to worry my love, I would never send you back to the castle unless I was more than certain that you would be safe" he says with a serious face, I just nod taking a look to the ground.
Before I could reply to Gray, Erik and Josh walk into the office both holding files. I was actually quite happy to see Erik, as I take a look at him closer I discover he has a black eye and cuts all over his face. When he left here yesterday he was not beaten up, did Gray's mother do that to him? He walks over to me placing the folders on the desk with a smile, I raise my eyebrows at him in a way to ask what happened. His eyes dart to Gray who was talking with Josh than back at me, is he trying to say what Gray told him to do involved him getting these injuries?
I was about to say we should go into another room, mostly so I could ask him about his face without Gray stopping him. But before I could Gray actually speaks up towards me and Erik this time.
"What about you two remain in here with us? It would be great to see how you two are doing on the case, but also we hear you have been doing some work into Rupert which might indeed aid us" Gray suggest smiling looking mainly at me as he spoke, I take a look to Erik who I think wasn't too sure about the idea.
"We could but, I'm not sure you would want to see the things we've found out regarding your father" I say hoping he would back off, he gives me a confused look for a second.
"Such as?" He asks with a raised eyebrow, I take another look to Erik who just gulps, as I look at Gray and Josh they both looked confused, I sigh before answering his questions.
"Matilda was not the only family member your father killed" I say looking over at him where he looks rather taken back "that's why I don't think it's a good idea for us to be in the same room doing this case, that and we have a bunch of papers and documents that we even put on the walls, we would get in each other's way" I smile as Erik picks the folders up from the desk beginning to walk out, I too was about to leave the room but my Gray taking hold of my arm stops.
"Tell me everything" he says looking down at me his hand still holding my arm, he wasn't hurting me at all but I couldn't walk away if I tried.
"Gray trust me, you will want to know all the facts once we tell you what we know, but we don't have all the facts to give you yet" I tell him as Erik opens the door waiting to fully leave "we also found out what he actually did to Matilda, details you're not gonna want to hear" I say sadly looking at him as I start to think about what happened to her, the information we found out was so upsetting that my eyes begin to well up with tears.
"Sir, it's something you as her brother you aren't going to want to hear, he wasn't going to kill her but once the thing he planned didn't pan out, he just-" Erik starts to say but stops immediately, I shake my head not wanting him to find out like that.
"As her brother, I feel it my duty to know" Gray informs us, I once again sigh but nod my head Erik closing the door walking back into the room.
Erik slowly walks back over to the desk placing the folders down, he skims through them for a second before landing on the one. He opens it up beginning to pull the contents out as I clear a space on the desk, but also having to mentally prepare myself for what I was about to talk about.
"Well, one of the topics we're building the case around is Matilda, which meant we had to do some digging of our own to find out all the facts, as when you told me you said it was unclear what happened at the lake, it's no longer unclear to us" I say taking a few looks to Gray but I couldn't make eye contact, especially with what I'm about to tell him.
"It was a challenge at first, we expected that we wouldn't have any witnesses of what he did to the Princess, but it wasn't just your father and Matilda that were there" Erik continues with the story while I sort through the papers.
"Other people were there?" Josh asked surprised, I think they all assumed they would never know as his father would never speak of it.
"Yep, all together there were three people, your father and Matilda obviously, but someone we were taken back when we saw the name" I say pulling the document out "someone who's been terrorising us all for the last few months, everyone in this room has been affected by him" I say which makes both men stop and think, but soon realisation hits and their jaws just drop.
"No way" was all that came out of Josh's mouth as I turn the photo around to show them.
