Is The Day
I was sitting on the sofa of my parents safe house, my mum had me change out of my wet clothes and into something warmer before I caught a cold. I explained everything that happened and they were kind of shocked, my mother held my hand as I explained the whole thing.
"You can stay here as long as you like" she smiles squeezing my hand as she spoke "you're the reason we get to live like this, finally away from that monster" she continues, I knew she was talking about Cyrus.
"He's also getting released after the trial, don't worry he's going to be closely watched and will never get anywhere near you" I say looking at both of them, my dad just smiles coming to sit beside me.
"It's okay Clara, all we want to is to have some sort of relationship with you and Kyle, that man is never getting in the middle of that again" he smiles as I rest my head against my mothers shoulder, I was getting rather tired due to all the running and the whole court case.
This time last year, I would never have thought I would be sat on a sofa with my parents. Let's be honest, I would have never thought I would be Queen either, it has been a long year with a lot happening, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
In no time I fell asleep, in the arms of my long lost parents.
It was the next day, the day before the huge trial. I still had work to do even if I didn't want to be in the castle, Gray hasn't stopped trying to get through to me since I woke up this morning. But I had more important things to worry about. I got a hold of Erik and told him where to meet me, after ordering him not to tell anybody where that was.
He also had to arrange transport for Cyrus to be taken here, I thought it made sense to have one last talk with my dad and him about the incoming trial. It would also be a way for them to get all the fighting out of their systems, we need them to be at their best when the trial happens. I had just finished getting ready when Erik walks through the door, he looks up at me on the stairs looking rather worried.
"I just want to let you know, I have no bad feelings against you or what happened, I know you were simply following orders and I can't fault you for that" I tell him as I walk down the stairs, shock and relief fill his face "I know that man was talking about Mason, even though it really sucks what happened to him, at least I got an even better advisor out of it" I smile as I come to a stop in front of him, this makes his face light up.
"Thank you Clara, I couldn't imagine not doing this job with you, the King really didn't have any other choice, I'm sure he'll explain to you when you see him again but just know, he wouldn't have done it if he thought there was another way out that situation" he explains which was actually helpful, I knew I was going to see Gray next at the trial tomorrow, let's hope he's not too annoyed with me.
"Cyrus is being transported here as we speak, now are you sure you want to keep him and your father in the same room?" He ask opening the file he always had in his hands, yes back to work!
"Yes, if they get all the hurt and angry feelings out now, the trial will go so much smother tomorrow" I explain as my mum walks out from the kitchen, she was all smiles until she looks to the front door.
I turn to see Cyrus stood in handcuffs in the doorway, his face didn't look that happy as he looked back over at my mother. My dad walks from the kitchen also clocking Cyrus, but it didn't look like he cared much.
"That face don't scare me no more, you don't scare me no more" he simply tells him before leading my mother over to the table, she on the other hand, looked terrified.
Erik and I exchange a look before we all make our way over to the table, Cyrus was sat at the end with two guards either side of him. I sat in the middle with Erik behind me while my parents, were sat on the other side of the table. We need to keep as much distance between my parents and Cyrus as we can right now, the feelings are still high.
"Look at this a family gathering, I should have brought a pumpkin pie with me" Cyrus laughs looking over at my dad, my questions was, do people really still eat pumpkin pie? I for one have never tried it.
"Shove your pumpkin pie up your arse Cyrus, enough with all the game playing and all the side comments, we all know why we're here so just get on with it" my dad says shutting Cyrus down immediately, Cyrus didn't like his comment and was visibly angry.
"I see how it is now, you find out that your daughter's Queen so you feel entitled, after all the shit I've done for you over this years, this is how you repay me, you backstabbing-" Cyrus shouts but my dad cuts him off before he could finish.
"Everything you've done for me! You forced us to abandon our children because they got in your way, you're calling us backstabbers? You'd always claim that you would never be a snitch and you hated anyone who would even consider it, look what you're doing right now!" My dad laughs shaking his head, I sigh sitting up straight.
"Okay can we all just stop, we aren't here for you two just to argue back and forth, we're here to discus what's going to happen tomorrow at the trial" I explain as my dad just shakes his head looking to the side, at least he calmed down a little but Cyrus on the other hand, he didn't look calm at all.
"Yeah and straight after the trial I'm going home" he says pointing over at me, I just nod but then remember something.
"Yes, a home that we're setting up for you" I say which he doesn't like, at this moment I didn't care "as I said back in the last conversation we had, it's either that or you'll be locked up in prison for the rest of your life, I'm good with anything" I say looking him dead in the eye, he looks at me for a second but his eyes soon go down to look at the table.
"Now, you two are the main witnesses we have in the trial, we need you to talk about the kind of jobs Preston would have you do, what you would get for partaking in these jobs and how he approached you" I explain putting pieces of paper in front of them "we just need to get your stories straight, now Cyrus, you were the one that would meet with Preston to get the run-down on whatever job you had to do?" I ask looking over at Cyrus, he sits back in his chair nodding his head.
"Yep, he'd send whatever the person that helps you is called" he says pointing to Erik, that would be his advisor "he'd send him over and tell me the King wants to meet" he explains with a sigh, well at least we're getting somewhere.
"That's good, but in the trial you need to go into more detail" I say smiling over at him for a second before turning to my dad "you'll just be asked some questions about what happened, just answer them to the best of your ability, Cyrus seen more and was involved in more so he'll have to be spoken to most" I explain to my dad who just nods his head, wow this is going better than I thought it would be going.
"Where's the King, I mean this is his father we're talking about and he's doing nothing?" Cyrus asks, I mean if the King was here we'd be having a different conversation.
"As he's the King he can't get involved in matters like this, I also can't which is another thing, you can't say I approached you but that you're doing it out of the kindness of your heart, people will feel bad for you and will more likely take your side" I explain actually forgetting that I can't be involved, good thing Cyrus said something.
"Now we have a few more little things to go over" Erik says placing a folder in front of me, it was kind of a long list but I knew it was things we couldn't hold off "once it's done, we can all get on our ways" he smiles while Cyrus just rolls his eyes.
"Yeah, I'll go back to prison" he sighs but I choose to ignore that, I wasn't in the mood for him to explain to me why we should let him out a day before the the trial.
We start to go through the list for the rest of the day, Cyrus and Erik leave just after sundown leaving me end my parents alone. I stand by the door waving to Erik as he left, as I look up at the moon I get a feeling of comfort.
"I'll see you tomorrow, I love you" I mind-link Gray while still staring at the moon, it's the first time I've spoke to him since leaving.
"I will be counting down the hours my love, I love you more than you will ever know" he responds almost immediately, this makes me smile still staring at the huge moon.
"Tomorrow is the day" I say to myself.
