38. A Baby?!
Huh?
Arleena was shocked after her eyes were completely open. Seeing the messy state of the table, littered with snack wrappers as well as seltzer and alcoholic drink marks, Arleena was suddenly confused.
For a split second Arleena just stared at the mess before her. She had no recollection of what happened last night. Holding her dizzy head, Arleena tried to recall the events of last night.
"What is this?" muttered Arleena. Unfortunately, her head was too dizzy for her to think much.
Again, Arleena was silent. At that moment, the only thing she was doing was giving small massages to her temples. I don't know what happened to make Arleena feel dizzy like this.
"Ah, gosh... did I drink too much?" Arleena grumbled to herself. Her eyes remained closed for a moment, then fell silent as she remembered something.
"Wait," Arleena opened her eyes, froze, then looked to the side. "Woah! Who is this guy?! Hey, you... ah, damn it, why did you break into someone's house at random?!"
Arleena's shout and kick instantly jerked away the man lying beside her. Arleena was so panicked that her energy was instantly regained. Arleena's fear-driven energy finally woke up the man beside her.
"Woah, woah, what's wrong?! A man?! Where is he?!"
Arleena immediately stopped her kicking movements. After getting a clear view of the man's face who was sitting upright in shock, Arleena suddenly fell silent.
"Hugo?" asked Arleena confused. The look on his face at that moment really showed innocence. "Wait, hey, are you here? Since when did you randomly enter my house?"
Hugo stopped yelling and looked around frantically. When he turned his gaze to Arleena, Hugo was also confused.
"Me? Carelessly entering your house?" repeated a confused Hugo.
Arleena nodded her head.
It took a few seconds for both of them, including Hugo, to digest their confusion. The effects of the alcohol they had consumed last night had made them forget their new lives in an instant.
Until finally, after sobering up, Hugo flicked Arleena's forehead. Hugo's mouth twisted in amusement.
"What do you mean, I'm already your husband, did you forget?" Hugo replied in an exasperated tone.
Arleena, who had wanted to grumble at Hugo, immediately canceled her intention. While grimacing holding the forehead area that received Hugo's jibe, Arleena processed the events for a moment.
"Gosh, you really drank so much alcohol last night that you forgot I was your husband," Hugo retorted. "I was already panicking because I thought a strange man had sneaked in here."
Arleena was still confused with herself. While she was trying to neutralize her daze, Hugo had already moved on to collect the snack wrappers.
"I didn't realize that the man next to me was you," Arleena retorted, getting up from the sofa and cleaning up the pieces of snacks that had spilled onto the floor.
Hugo only glanced at Arleena with a bemused look. After that, Hugo looked back at the tiles filled with scattered snacks.
"Why did we eat so much food last night?" Hugo said as he looked frustratedly at the tiles below him.
Arleena grimaced. Having just remembered that there was a sack stored in the corner of the room, Arleena then walked over to get it. After returning to the messy area of the room, Arleena immediately approached Hugo.
"Just put the garbage in here, I'll throw it outside," Arleena said.
As time passed, Arleena and Hugo cleaned up the messy remains of the snacks from last night. Everything was stuffed into a medium-sized sack in Arleena's hands, except for the seloki and the beer bottle.
"Are you sure you still want to keep these two bottles?" asked Arleena as she held up one of the beer bottles.
In front of Arleena, Hugo had stopped his movement that was sweeping the room. Hugo immediately glared and held out a hand as a gesture to restrain Arleena's actions.
"Don't throw it in that sack. You know it's very expensive," Hugo said with a pleading look on his face.
Arleena looked at the bottle in her hand. To Arleena, this bottle was very ordinary. It wasn't something unique that needed to be kept-especially when it was gone.
"Are you sure? Why do you have to keep this?" Arleena was still trying to convince Hugo. "These two bottles are even empty. There's no point in keeping them."
Hugo didn't answer. Just gave an up and down hand gesture as if telling Arleena to put the bottle down.
Finally Arleena did not continue her intention to persuade Hugo. It seemed that Hugo was very determined to keep the beer bottle in his hand. Even though Arleena didn't understand why Hugo kept this, she still complied with his request.
"I'll clean up the rest of the invisible dirt there. You just throw the trash away," Hugo said without looking at Arleena because his attention was too focused on sweeping the room.
Arleena complied again. Actually, she also felt lazy to clean the small dirt on the tiles.
Lifting the medium-sized sack in her hand, Arleena stood up from her position. Arleena walked straight to the main entrance of the apartment to leave.
The apartment door code sounded. Arleena opened the door and was about to step over the border of the apartment door. But one of her feet accidentally nudged something on the right side.
Arleena lowered her head and frowned to find a box covered in white cloth. The box was placed on the right side near the wall of the apartment door. Unfortunately, because it was covered in white cloth, Arleena could not see what was inside the box.
But Arleena felt uncomfortable. She stood still for a while as she looked at the box with astonishment. As Arleena remembered, she hadn't ordered any packages. Nothing should have arrived. Also, their moving package only came three days later because it was overloaded today.
"Did Hugo buy stuff online?" Arleena asked herself quietly.
Arleena looked left and right to take in the situation in the hallway. There was no one around. It seemed too strange for someone to intentionally leave things behind-and it would be even stranger if a package was misdirected to the wrong address.
"Aish... why do I feel so bad?" Arleena grumbled again.
Finally, unable to bear the worry, Arleena immediately turned around and went back inside. Arleena decided to walk over to Hugo who was still busy cleaning.
"Hugo," Arleena called out. "Did you just order something through the online store?"
Hugo stopped moving and turned his gaze to Arleena. Both eyebrows furrowed in astonishment.
"What?" asked Hugo. He was confused by Arleena's question. "Not at all. What's wrong?"
Arleena was getting confused. With an awkward expression, she pointed outside their apartment.
"Then in front of that door, whose belongings are coming?"
Hearing Arleena's question made Hugo feel strange. Hugo hadn't ordered anything since yesterday. These days he didn't need anything to buy.
"But I really didn't buy anything," Hugo replied as he stood up slowly. "There were items placed outside? Without a description of the owner?"
"That... I haven't had a chance to read who the owner is. I have an uneasy feeling. There was a box covered with a white cloth." Arleena explained in a somewhat nervous tone. Inside her, she felt anxiety and fear that the item placed in front of the door was dangerous.
Hugo was silent with his gaze fixed on the outside of the apartment. The two looked at each other in surprise for a few seconds.
Feeling curiosity starting to arise and disturbing his concentration, Hugo finally turned off the house cleaning tool. Hugo stepped towards Arleena, but he passed her by without saying a word.
Arleena followed behind Hugo. Arriving at the door of the apartment, Hugo was already squatting and looking at the box in front of him.
"If it was a delivery, there should have been a letter of address left on the cloth," Hugo commented.
Arleena didn't answer. She was watching with an anxious gaze.
After Hugo paused for a moment, Hugo opened the white cloth that covered the entire box. Hugo immediately opened the key hook on the lid of the box.
"I don't think I ordered anything, and if this is a misdirected package..."
In that instant Hugo stopped speaking. His eyes widened in surprise and panic. A moment later, Hugo suddenly stumbled backwards in shock.
"Oh my God! Why is there a baby in this box?!"
