69. Do You Come With Me?
Farah was pensive after her husband's departure. To be honest, when she heard Dayyan being scolded by Septin. She couldn't accept that her husband would continue to be blamed by his mother. After all, Dayyan, she understood, had worked hard for them. However, she was powerless to defend him.
Today, the doctor's examination. Athaya, if possible, can go home. However, before that, of course, financial matters must be taken care of first.
"Athaya's condition is good. All lab check results are normal. So, Athaya can be treated at home. Don't forget to take your medicine and don't get tired, dear," said the doctor during the morning check-up.
"Alhamdulillah, thank you, Doctor. Athaya, you can go home, dear." Farah hugged her daughter.
Home was the place she longed for. Although it was simple, it was a comfortable place to rest. While in the hospital, Farah found it very difficult to unwind and sleep well. Moreover, the hospital room was only class 3 where there were many people and noise.
While waiting for the details of the total cost, Farah fed Athaya who was starting to brighten up. Septin waited outside out of boredom after getting dressed. Some of the patients' beds are empty, the rest are cleaning up to go home.
Dayyan had not yet returned. He was usually scheduled to go home at 10am.
"Patient Athaya Almahyra?"
"Yes, I am, Sister."
"Here are the details. Please take it to the cashier."
"Yes, Sus."
Farah looked at the details of the bill for costs not covered by BPJS and gasped in shock. The total was 5 million. 3 million was paid by BPJS. The remaining 2 million was for treatments and some medicines that were not covered by BPJS. She only had one million, which included the cost of renting a vehicle home because they didn't have a car.
Farah tried to contact Dayyan but he never replied. Meanwhile, the clock was ticking.
"What's wrong, Farah? Did Sister come in here earlier? Can Athaya go home already?" asked Septin.
"Yes, Ma. This is Athaya's, Ma. She still lacks a million because it's not covered by BPJS."
"What?" Septin snatched the cost breakdown and immediately her eyes bulged.
"How much money do you have?"
"Only a million, Ma. This is also for the cost of going home and buying new medicine...."
"Oh my. I've run out of money. The last remaining three million yesterday has already been paid to Mama's arisan debt...." Septin was agitated.
"Are you still joining arisan too? When we have so many needs, Mi?" Farah felt annoyed and desperate with Septin.
"It's not a new arisan, it's an old arisan debt. You were the one who won first. Now it's just a matter of paying. It's been collected all the time."
"So, where are we going to pay the rest, Ma?" Farah sighed.
"Hmm, did you call Dayyan?"
"I did. But he didn't pick up, Ma. But I did chat with him."
"Huh, where is that Dayyan anyway. How come he can't be reached?"
"Maybe Dayyan is looking for the fees, Mi."
"Huh. Your husband should have contacted you. Don't turn off your cell phone. It gives people a headache."
"Mama too, Farah already told you, Ma. I'll keep the money for now. Farah will replace it when Dayyan gets some money. Even pay for arisan." Farah unconsciously scolded her mother.
"What are you doing? Arisan is a debt. I also don't know if Athaya will be hospitalized again. We haven't scheduled check-ups and chemotherapy yet!"
"Yes, you know how Athaya's condition is, right? We should always be on guard, Mia" Farah regretted Septin's attitude.
"Why are you blaming Mama, anyway? Blame your husband who's incompetent at earning money! He told you to get a job instead of taking a motorcycle taxi! You get a good job offer, but you refuse it! It's just hard on the in-laws." Septin snapped at Farah, startling her and Athaya into tears from the loud noise. Luckily, people had already started to leave the room.
"Ma, sorry, Ma. Farah didn't mean to blame Mama. Farah is confused. Athaya wants to go home. Dayyan hasn't come yet." Farah looked down sadly.
"I'm also upset with your husband." Septin pouted. She felt sorry for her grandchildren. But she was also upset with Dayyan and felt that all the problems were because her son-in-law could not get a good job.
It was getting late in the afternoon. The room was completely empty. The residents who had been there earlier had taken care of their money and gone home. Farah and Septin were still waiting anxiously. Septin was holding back anger at her daughter-in-law. Farah felt anxious if her husband didn't get the money. Meanwhile, Athaya began to whine about going home.
Septin massaged her temples. Farah carried and hugged her daughter with frantic thoughts. She thought anxiously. What should she do if her husband never came with money?
As for Dayyan, after receiving a chat from Farah, he was confused about where to look for money. Enter a chat from Zahra. The notification from Zahra's contact number made Dayyan feel happy in his heart. He rushed to read it.
[Mas, why isn't the online motorcycle taxi active? Is it still sick?]
Looks like Ms. Zahra is still worried, Dayyan thought. He hurriedly replied.
[No, ma'am, I'm fine. Yes, on purpose, ma'am.]
[Oh, thank goodness, Mas. When will you start actively riding a motorcycle taxi again, Mas?] Zahra asked. However, Dayyan, who was anxious, did not immediately answer her.
[Is there a problem, Mas?] Zahra chatted because there was no reply for a long time, only typing.
Dayyan felt his heart rippling. When he was anxious. When he was sad, there were people who noticed and cared about him. How kind Mrs. Zahra is, he thought. The chaos in his head seemed to be unraveled just reading the chat. However, the anxiety in her heart was still there because the problem had not been solved just like that.
Is it okay if I talk to Ms. Zahra? Dayyan thought. At that moment, his chest felt like it was crushed by a big rock. Tight and heavy. He wanted to let go for a moment. A story, perhaps to make him feel better and clear his mind.
[It's just the usual problem, ma'am. My daughter can go home today. However, I don't have the fee yet. My wife is waiting].
Finally, Dayyan's chat, which was hesitant to delete typing, was sent. There was a sense of relief in Dayyan's heart when the chat was sent and he pounded his heart waiting for Zahra to read and reply. He was afraid Zahra would hate him for having the courage to confide in her family.
Meanwhile, Zahra was there, confused about what to answer. She was afraid of offending Dayyan. I don't know why she thought so much about Dayyan. Lately, she always felt anxious and wanted to go to his house to see how he was doing. Deep down she always felt guilty. However, Zahra felt that she was a single woman who should not visit a married man's house. It would certainly lead to misunderstandings and other negative views.
[Zahra] Be patient, Mas. There must be a way out. If you don't mind, can we meet? I have an order that can't be replaced by someone else?]
[Yes, ma'am.]
Dayyan finally decided to meet and accept Zahra's online order.
**
By Zuhr, Dayyan was finally able to return to the hospital.
"Mama, how is Athaya?" asked Dayyan as soon as he entered, which was immediately greeted by his mother-in-law's scolding.
"Where have you been, Dayyan? Did you just show up at this hour? Want to torture us here, huh?" said Septin. She was really angry this time. She was loud, not caring that it was a hospital.
"Sorry, Ma. Dayyan is trying to get a loan from a friend." Dayyan squeezed his intertwined fingers. He had spent all day trying to get a loan from his friends, abandoning his shyness and facing rejection and the risk of being antagonized by them. However, after arriving at the hospital, Septin greeted him with a rage that broke his heart. Not once, but over and over again, making him feel like the worst kind of man.
"Hah, pay up quickly, your son has been waiting all this time. Do you want the doctor to kick us out?"
"Yes, Mia" Dayyan rushed to the payment counter.
Septin was still nagging Dayyan even though he was no longer there. It made Farah, who had been happy with her husband's arrival, upset and angry. Her mother's voice had a way of destabilizing Farah's mood.
"Because of Papa, Mama keeps nagging me. I'm dizzy. I'm already tired of taking care of the children. I still have to worry about money and Mama's words make my mind even more complicated." Farah could only think to herself.
"What is this Dayyan Papa. Every day he makes Mama angry. If this keeps up, I might get depressed. One problem hasn't been solved yet, another one has come up. Oh God, what should I do? Why doesn't this ordeal want to leave my life?" Farah cried over her increasingly uncertain fate.
Meanwhile, Septin still felt a surge of anger towards her son-in-law who had been considered the bearer of her poverty and hardship. Septin longed for the social life she used to have. All her dreams have vanished with Dayyan's rejection of office work and the reality of Athaya's illness.
