20. Axel's Concern
Axel was right.
When he got to the apartment, Jonathan confronted him. Let's see now. Axel sat on the sofa while Jonathan walked around talking to him. Seeing that, Axel felt uneasy.
"Hey, can you stop for a minute? I can't imagine how dizzy you must be walking here and there," Axel said, looking at Jonathan lazily.
Jonathan stopped and turned his body toward Axel. The sharp glint in his eyes instantly made Axel straighten up.
"Rather than getting a headache from walking here and there, I'm getting a headache from thinking about your behavior, Axel," Jonathan retorted, sternly.
Axel looked down, sighing very softly. Suddenly, Jonathan looked even creepier than usual. Although he couldn't help it, Jonathan's fierce face looked funny.
"I'm sorry. I didn't have time to tell you." Axel had a pleading tone when he said his answer.
And as usual, despite being fierce and annoyed, Jonathan was instantly touched. For some reason Axel looked like a child.
"Hey, you think that's going to work on me?" Jonathan said sternly.
"No, of course not. But it usually works."
Jonathan took a deep breath, then exhaled long and slow. Seeing that Axel now raised his head and gave a grinning smile casually, Jonathan held back his annoyance.
Of course Jonathan didn't want to show that he was touched. Because Axel wouldn't learn his lesson later.
"You met Olivia, huh?" Jonathan immediately shot Axel using the question that had been in his head.
Wide-eyed, Axel stared at Jonathan in disbelief.
"How did you know about that?" Axel looked at Jonathan with a curious gaze.
Jonathan folded his arms across his chest. He blatantly focused his sharp, intense gaze.
"From where? Do you need to know?"
After that Jonathan walked over to the sofa where Axel was sitting. He casually plopped down next to Axel, put one leg over the other, and then put one arm around Axel.
"What do you think I don't know about you? Of course you're going to do everything you can to meet Olivia," Jonathan continued, his tone somewhat irritated.
Axel exhaled softly, but couldn't help but chuckle.
"How can I keep myself from seeing her?" Axel tried to make a statement in his defense. "You must have felt worried about someone and couldn't calm down?"
Jonathan stared at Axel for a few moments. Then with a heavy heart-because he actually intended to scold Axel, Jonathan nodded his head.
"Yes, I have, and I don't feel at ease if I haven't seen it in person." At the end of the sentence, Jonathan felt claustrophobic. He remembered that one year ago he was in a relationship with someone he loved the most.
But unfortunately, the woman chose another man who proposed. And was much more established, also had more free time than him.
"Right?" Axel then exhaled harshly. "I don't want to be constantly restrained, but this is my job. I have to make sure Olivia is okay."
"Is she okay?" Jonathan asked. "That picture of you must have put her in a corner."
"She says she's fine, unfortunately I don't believe her. You know she's been off work for a long time."
"Yes, he hasn't come in for almost a week. Did he secretly get a warning letter from the chairman?"
Jonathan's words broke the silence. Axel suddenly fell silent and turned quickly to Jonathan. His gaze radiated confusion.
"Is that so?" Axel began to worry again.
Catching Axel's concern, Jonathan faltered a bit. He let go of the question even though he didn't know for sure. His intention was to accompany Axel and make sure Axel was okay.
Jonathan quickly shook his head. He did his best not to show any anxiety on his face.
"It does happen, but it's rare. The chief director, right, never issues a warning letter unless he confirms the matter is true."
Jonathan was worried because Axel was looking at him with lethargic eyes. There was curiosity, but also great concern in Axel's eyes.
"It could still happen, I forgot to ask Olivia."
"Don't! Are you crazy?"
Axel spontaneously gasped as he heard Jonathan's worried tone.
"If you ask, she'll speculate whether she'll get the letter or not. That would only make him more worried."
Blinking for a moment because he was still in shock, Axel let out a rough breath. He rubbed his face in frustration, already feeling very annoyed.
"I don't know anymore... what if something happens to Olivia?"
Jonathan looked at Axel for a few moments. So intently and warmly. He reached out the hand that had been resting on the back of the sofa, and placed it on Axel's shoulder.
"Take it easy," Jonathan said, giving him a reassuring pat. "Why are you worrying about something that's not necessarily going to happen?"
Axel still hid his face behind his palms. The anxiety in his heart made Axel unable to breathe normally.
"Ah, why did I have to force her to meet that day? I didn't know that there were spies following us," Axel complained with his voice almost muffled because it was behind the palms of his hands.
Jonathan's face cringed as he watched Axel. He felt sorry for him even though he was upset. Surely Axel just wanted the freedom of being a couple without anyone spying on him.
As someone who had been with Axel for a long time, Jonathan understood. Axel wanted many things but he was always constrained. Even wanting to fall in love couldn't be as free as other people.
"Axel, it's already happened. You can't keep regretting it," Jonathan said, trying to calm Axel down.
Lifting his face, Axel leaned back. His head rested to look at the ceiling of the room.
"How's the agency?" Axel asked. "Did the chief director say anything to make you worry about looking for me?"
"I'm afraid there's something the chairman will say again. That's why I was looking for you."
Axel turned his face without raising his head. "Are you sure? You're not lying to me, are you?"
Jonathan shook his head. "Am I you? You lied to me earlier."
"That's because I didn't want you to catch up with me," replied Axel, who immediately returned his gaze to the front. His lips twisted into a frown.
"Because I'm going to harass you?"
Axel nodded. "Of course. And I don't want my time with Olivia to be interrupted. You know that one minute is precious."
Prompted to chuckle, Jonathan was curious about one thing. "Did Olivia text you back?"
"She did, and she invited me to her friend's place. Ah... at least I know where she lives."
"You really do love her, Axel. Then go ahead. Don't hurt her. I'm warning you now."
