51. Write Every Possibility
"Do you think Justin really understands what baby supplies are?" asked Arleena as she unpacked the box of baby supplies.
On the chair, Hugo, who had just finished changing the baby's diaper, was confused for a moment. Hugo seemed to be thinking with a serious expression after hearing Arleena's question. Actually, if you think about it in more detail, it seems a bit strange if Justin knows what baby equipment needs. Moreover, Justin must have bought all the equipment first before finally wrapping and bringing it to Gabriel's apartment.
If Justin is indeed the culprit, does this action include a stalking plan? Has Justin prepared everything from the beginning?
Arleena picked up one of the opened diapers and looked at it in detail. As she watched with a hiss and a grimace, Arleena wondered if Justin had studied babies and knew the right diapers for the babies in his care.
For some reason, Arleena felt that it was impossible for Justin to learn about babies. Because Justin was the most indifferent person. How could Justin prepare the baby's needs in this much detail?
"I don't know. Maybe he's already planned all this," Hugo replied with a doubtful expression. He didn't know if his answer was correct or not. Even when answering Arleena's question, there was still uncertainty in his heart. "I'm not sure if she has learned about the baby's needs or not."
"She knows about age-appropriate cereals and baby milk, baby diaper sizes, baby clothes..." Arleena tilted her head as she sensed something odd about the whole thing. "Oh my. If it's true that he's the culprit who followed me, then he's really very intentional. How could Justin, who I knew to be so ignorant of household matters, suddenly buy all these baby supplies?"
"Right," replied Hugo who then stepped closer to Arleena. Hugo then squatted down with an astonished look at the box of baby supplies. "I didn't know Justin could be this detailed."
Hugo picked up one of the packets of baby milk and looked at it with an astonished gaze. All the while Hugo wondered how Justin could learn all the details in such a short time.
"If he's already prepared this plan, then he knew about the baby we're taking care of before he came to the restaurant where your event is with your coworkers," Hugo said expressing his opinion.
Arleena frowned and looked quickly at Hugo. Still holding the diaper bag, Arleena looked at Hugo confused.
"He's already investigating me?"
"Most likely so. Preparing all this couldn't have taken just a few hours during which he followed you to Gabriel's apartment. Another possibility is that Justin had also planned to come to the restaurant where you were, and then tell your coworkers."
Hearing Hugo's opinion made Arleena gape. Arleena looked like someone who had just remembered something. Arleena was surprised and spontaneously patted Hugo's shoulder until Hugo winced.
"If that's the case, then she already knew that I was going to be at the dinner last night? He already knows my schedule with my coworkers?" asked Arleena who was instantly worried.
Hugo was still wincing while stroking his shoulder that was hit by Arleena's sudden hard blow. He had looked at Arleena annoyed for hitting him suddenly. But the annoyance only lasted for a moment.
"If he is the culprit, then the answer to your question is yes," Hugo replied with a confident nod. "But what I'm wondering is how did she find out about the dinner schedule you and your coworkers have together? She doesn't work in your office, Arleena."
Arleena was silent for a moment. Thinking about the answer to Hugo's question gave her goosebumps. Her hair stood on end. Arleena wondered if someone had deliberately leaked to Justin about the event. Someone else who also secretly hated her.
"Arleena," Hugo called in a serious tone. "Do you have a problem with someone other than Justin?"
Arleena's gaze shifted to Hugo who also implied concern from the look in his eyes. Arleena shook her head with a rather listless expression. Arleena had no idea that there was someone else who hated her besides Justin.
"I don't feel like I have a problem with anyone. My relationships with the others are fine," Arleena replied, her tone sounding rather lethargic.
Hugo's heart sank instantly after noticing Arleena's worried expression. Hugo faded the serious look on his face and sighed heavily. Even though a few moments ago Hugo had seen Arleena feeling relieved. But now, seeing Arleena feeling worried made him feel uneasy too.
"I don't think there could be someone else who is hostile to you besides Justin." Hugo gave his opinion. He tried to help calm Arleena down.
Arleena was hesitant to agree with what Hugo said. She felt like there was something wrong if she thought about whether someone was hostile to her or not.
"I don't know why my feelings say the opposite of what you said," replied Arleena who wore a doubtful expression.
Hugo immediately patted Arleena's shoulder in order to calm the woman's mind. Hugo did not want Arleena to be too deep in such bad thoughts.
"Arleena, if you think you don't have a problem with anyone, don't let you create bad thoughts in your own mind," Hugo replied.
Arleena looked at Hugo for a moment. She didn't know what to say. On the one hand, Arleena was relieved that Hugo was trying to calm her down. On the other hand, Arleena also felt guilty for troubling Hugo.
"I didn't expect him to act like that," Arleena replied before letting out a rough breath and putting the pack of baby diapers into the box again.
"We just don't know for sure yet, but-"
Before Hugo could finish his sentence, there was the sound of a baby crying loudly. Hugo and Arleena immediately looked at the baby in the crib box. Their faces looked panicked as they stared at the crib for a few seconds.
"Hey, he's crying!" Hugo was the first to stand up from his position and hurriedly approached the crib.
Arleena also stood up with a worried expression. She hurriedly ran towards the crib and saw that the baby was already in Hugo's arms.
"Ssshh... ssshhh..." Hugo hissed while lightly patting the baby's buttocks in his arms. Hugo tried to soothe while moving his body to the right and left slowly.
Arleena was still looking at the baby in Hugo's arms with a worried look. Throughout, Arleena was anxious that the baby in Hugo's arms would not stop crying.
"He has urinated and defecated. He's probably crying because he wants to be held," said Arleena, who looked at the baby in Hugo's arms with a hopeful gaze.
Hugo turned his head towards Arleena without stopping his movements. During that time, Hugo gulped his saliva as he realized he would feel sore in the same position as long as the baby was comfortable.
"Arleena..." Hugo said softly.
Arleena was somewhat surprised as the baby's crying slowly subsided in Hugo's arms. With that surprised expression, Arleena glanced at Hugo before an arch gradually appeared.
"Hugo, that baby feels comfortable around you," Arleena replied with a flabbergasted expression.
Hugo grimaced without saying anything. He then turned his gaze to the baby in his arms. The baby's crying had indeed completely subsided.
On the one hand, Hugo felt relieved that the baby in his arms was no longer crying. But on the other hand, Hugo wondered how he could stay in the same position for hours.
"Should I call this bad luck or not?" asked Hugo in a tone that sounded almost whispery.
Arleena spontaneously covered her mouth to stifle the sound of laughter, then one hand patted Hugo's shoulder very lightly. She really didn't expect that Hugo could calm a baby down.
"Wow, you're really bringing out the aura of a father!" Arleena said with an enthusiastic tone and look on her face.
Hugo immediately put on an irritated expression to Arleena because he felt that Arleena was teasing him. Hugo didn't expect Arleena to pat him on the shoulder twice while nodding slowly.
"Just continue with your work. I'll clean up the things," Arleena said while holding back a teasing smile at Hugo.
"Hey, Arleena. How am I holding up?" Hugo asked somewhat hissingly.
Arleena who had already stepped away from Hugo's presence just shrugged her shoulders. She didn't answer anything but her expression that smiled teasingly at Hugo implied that she didn't want to know about Hugo's soreness.
Suddenly Hugo showed an annoyed look on his face. He felt like pinching Arleena if he didn't immediately realize he was holding a baby.
"I didn't know she was so annoying," Hugo replied in a muttered voice.
