49. A Warmth Meet
"Oh my, Gabriel. You're really cut out to be a mom," Hugo commented upon arriving at Gabriel's apartment.
Next to Hugo, Arleena, who had come with him, chuckled. They had both come to Gabriel's apartment to see how the baby they were caring for was doing.
"Are you enjoying your time together, huh?" Gabriel replied in a sarcastic tone to Arleena.
Arleena, who understood that Gabriel was only joking, then deliberately showed a mocking facial expression. Arleena smiled proudly while shaking her own hair.
"Of course I enjoy my time alone with my husband," Arleena replied with a flirtatious tone and coquettish gestures.
Gabriel and Hugo simultaneously looked shocked at Arleena's response. Infuriated, Hugo then flicked Arleena's temple from the side.
Arleena immediately gaped in surprise and looked at Hugo through exasperated eyes. Arleena sighed heavily with her mouth pouting at Hugi.
"It's ridiculous to see how your body gestures," Hugo said without guilt and hesitation.
Arleena glared at Hugo while patting Hugo's shoulder as a reprimand.
"I already think of you as my husband. We really are husband and wife, have you forgotten?" asked Arleena in protest. She looked up at Hugo with a fierce expression.
Hugo was a bit stunned so he looked back, he looked at Arleena through amused and strange eyes. He had always witnessed Arleena's strange and childish behavior. But what was shown in front of him now was truly ridiculous.
"I don't know why you seem to be possessed by a coquettish ghost like this," Hugo said while shaking his head.
Arleena just sneered at Hugo's words without caring about the implied ridicule in those words. Arleena secretly felt satisfied because she managed to provoke Hugo's annoyance at her.
"Hey, you two. I'm lucky to have the experience of helping take care of my sister's child, why are you guys bothering me so much?" Gabriel replied in a grumbling tone. Although Gabriel didn't really mean what he said.
Hugo and Arleena couldn't help but laugh at each other. They both knew that Gabriel was just joking when he said his answer. So Hugo and Arleena did not feel offended at all.
"You should have reprimanded your friend. He even took time off work and suddenly gave me the news that he wanted to come to my office," Hugo replied as he flicked his chin at Arleena.
Gabriel's eyes moved to Arleena with an amused smile. He knew Arleena would definitely react with annoyance at Hugo's words just now.
Sure enough. Arleena tapped Hugo's right shoulder again, this time hard enough and too suddenly for Hugo to spontaneously exclaim in pain. Although brief, the large sound startled Arleena and Gabriel.
With a worried look at the baby in his arms, Gabriel said in an almost whispered voice, "Keep your voice down, Hugo. You see there's a baby sleeping."
Hugo instantly covered his mouth in surprise. He looked guiltily at the baby in Gabriel's arms. He almost woke the baby up, although in the end the baby was not disturbed at all.
Arleena, who was also annoyed with Hugo, tapped him on the shoulder to reprimand him. Suddenly Hugo gave a grinning smile to both of them.
"I'm sorry, I was reflex. That's why you shouldn't hit me carelessly," replied Hugo who grumbled irritably to Arleena.
Arleena frowned unhappily as Hugo blamed her. But Arleena did not continue their argument because she did not want to disturb the baby in Gabriel's hands.
"Look how calm he is in your arms, Gabriel," said Arleena who had walked over and looked at the baby's face in Gabriel's arms.
Gabriel turned his gaze to the baby in his arms. For a split second, Gabriel watched the baby intensely. The baby's calm face instantly brought out the warmth in his feelings. Gabriel then curved a small smile.
"I know I'm actually a fairy godmother," Gabriel said confidently.
In front of Gabriel, Arleena and Hugo instantly dropped their smiles. They both looked at Gabriel with flat expressions as they heard his words.
"What are you saying?" asked Arleena, disapprovingly. "It's impossible for a fairy godmother to look ungraceful. It's not even possible for a fairy godmother to squeal a lot and react noisily."
Gabriel turned to look at Arleena with an exasperated look in his eyes. Hearing Arleena's teasing remark made Gabriel instantly shed his confident smile as well.
"Oh my. You're not happy to see your friend confident," Gabriel said in an annoyed tone. But he knew Arlena was only joking.
Arleena chuckled at Gabriel's answer, especially seeing his annoyed expression. Arleena then asked the baby to move into her arms.
"Hey, I'm very curious. Did you meet Justin today?" Gabriel asked suddenly.
Just as Arleena looked at the baby in her care, she turned her gaze back to Gabriel. Both eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the question. Arleena looked at Gabriel for a few seconds as she realized the anxiety implied by the look in her friend's eyes.
"No, no. I'm just with Hugo, what's wrong?" asked Arleena. Her facial expression already looked wary of Gabiel. Wary of any bad news she might hear.
Gabriel seemed to think for a few moments with his expression somewhat agitated. Throughout, Gabriel seemed to be trying to remember something while considering whether or not to tell Arleena and Hugo.
Because Gabriel was silent for a long time, Hugo also realized that something had just happened. Hugo tilted his face slightly to watch Gabriel with an intense gaze.
Hugo and Arleena looked at each other in surprise.
"What's wrong, Gabriel?" asked Hugo, snapping Gabriel out of his reverie.
Gabriel was somewhat taken aback and looked a little nervous. Gabriel, on the other hand, looked at Hugo and Arleena with a hesitant look in his eyes.
"Actually, a few hours ago, someone rang the bell of this apartment," Gabriel began to reply.
Suddenly Hugo frowned in confusion, while Arleena raised both eyebrows. They were surprised but didn't say anything.
Gabriel pointed to the door of his apartment. He still showed an expression that was thinking about something very seriously.
"When I went there to look at the monitor screen, there was no one in front of my apartment. But when I opened the door, I saw some baby supplies in a basket..."
Gabriel's words made Hugo and Arleena surprised and even more astonished. Hugo and Arleena couldn't understand why someone would drop off baby supplies at Gabriel's doorstep. Even though no one knew if Arleena came to Gabriel's apartment. Let alone bringing her baby.
"Hold on, I'll show you the basket of baby supplies," Gabriel said before turning around and going to get the basket.
Not far from where Hugo and Arleena were, there was indeed a wooden basket. Gabriel picked up the basket before pushing it towards where Hugo and Arleena were.
"Gosh, this box is pretty heavy," Gabriel complained after the basket he was carrying stopped a few meters in front of Hugo and Arleena. "Here, take a look."
Out of sheer curiosity, Hugo and Arleena approached the box in unison. Arleena felt her heartbeat racing fast considering she hadn't told anyone about her arrival at Gabriel's apartment just now. On the other hand, Arleena just wanted to know-
"Gosh, why is the baby kit so complete?" asked Hugo who was flabbergasted when he saw that there were baby pacifier bottles, five complete suits of clothes and pants, baby towels, food and drinks for 6-month-old babies, even up to five large packs of diapers.
Arleena also couldn't say anything when she saw all the things in the box. She was stunned, confused and scared. Instantly her mind raced through all the possibilities of who might have sent these items.
"Arleena, did you tell anyone that you came to my apartment?" asked Gabriel who looked at Arleena seriously. At that moment, Gabriel had actually realized the concern on Arleena's face. Therefore, the way Gabriel spoke sounded almost soft.
Arleena shook her head slowly, she still looked dumbfounded and thought about who did this. Because since last night, she also didn't meet many people. The last one to talk to her was Katherine. But it couldn't be Katherine who sent all these baby supplies to Gabriel's apartment.
"Absolutely not. I didn't tell anyone about my arrival here," Arleena replied.
Gabriel looked even more worried after hearing Arleena's answer. Gabriel bit his lower lip and glanced at Hugo. As if to see how Hugo would react.
"Is there someone following your movements, Arleena?" asked Hugo in a very serious tone.
Arleena looked at Hugo with a hesitant expression on her face. There was a fear that was increasingly evident in her gaze and expression.
"Nothing. I feel nothing and have confirmed that I'm just walking alone," Arleena replied in a rather soft voice.
Hugo sighed heavily and put both hands on his waist.
"I don't know why, either someone is watching you, Arleena, or someone is watching you, Gabriel," Hugo replied, ending up pointing at Gabriel.
Gabriel was surprised to get such a sudden pointing out from Hugo. Gabriel immediately shook his head.
"Of course there isn't. I didn't go to many places yesterday. I spent most of my time in my apartment finishing my work," Gabriel replied.
Hugo then turned his gaze back to Arleena who still hadn't moved. At that moment Hugo realized that Arleena was indecisive, so the man decided to take over the baby in Arleena's arms. Just so the baby wouldn't fall if Arleena suddenly lost focus.
"Arleena, I don't know if my guess is right or not. But hearing your story about Justin last night..." Gabriel trailed off as Arleena turned to look at him. Gabriel was a little hesitant to express what was on his mind at that moment.
Arleena raised her eyebrows, as if she wanted to know what Gabriel was going to say.
"What?" asked Arleena. "Did Justin deliver this box in front of your apartment?"
"Maybe Justin didn't really come home after he left the restaurant where you were last night," Gabriel replied.
Hugo didn't say anything. But he looked very curious while considering whether Gabriel's words made sense or not.
"I'm not sure if Justin went home or is still waiting at some point to watch me," Arleena replied. She felt very uncomfortable at that moment.
Gabriel seemed to feel guilty for making Arleena uneasy. Unfortunately Gabriel felt he couldn't hide this any longer.
So, who followed Arleena to find out that Arleena and the baby she was caring for were in Gabriel's apartment?
