Chapter 78
Chapter 2
When I got home after my first day of classes, I flopped onto my bed. I was so bored and tired. I only had one class with Grayson on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so I knew nobody in the other classes I had. It sucked, but I didn't really have to know people since my professors talked the whole time.
Grayson came home about five minutes after me and laid down beside me. "How was class?" he asked.
I scoffed. "Don't ask. It was boring."
"Tell me about it," he said. "On the bright side, I got another party invitation for Friday?"
I raised my eyebrow and looked at him. "Another party? Are you going?"
Grayson shrugged. "I don't know. I was told it would be an awesome party, but I don't want to leave you alone again. If you want me to stay home, I will. You're more important than a party."
I smiled and scooted closer to him, resting my head on his chest. "Good, because I don't want to be along Friday night."
Grayson wrapped his arm around me and kissed my forehead. "I can never leave my girl alone when she doesn't want to be," he said. "Besides, last nights party was good enough to keep me in a good mood for about a week."
"It was that good?" I asked.
"Oh yeah," he said.
"Did you meet any nice people?" I asked.
He shook his head. "No. Devon and I hung out the whole time. He got invited as well but Belle didn't want to go, so he went alone."
"Are you two friends again?" I asked.
"Yeah, I think so," Grayson said.
He and Devon used to be best friends until a car crash that sent Devon to the hospital. He was pissed at Grayson and was out to get him, but it was mainly because he was under the influence of his cousin, Dedrick. Devon apologized to Grayson in the end, saying he didn't mean anything.
I looked at my watch and sat up. "I have to go," I said. "I promised Belle we would hang out today. She met a few people and she wants me to meet them."
Grayson sighed. "Oh, alright. Leave me all alone. I think I'll cry."
I rolled my eyes and gave him a kiss before getting off the bed. "I love you," I said.
"I love you too, Flower," Grayson replied before I left the apartment.
Belle and Devon moved in together, much to Belle's parents' dismay. They thought it was a huge mistake, but she ignored them. She didn't really have a healthy relationship with her parents because of something her brother did. And since her brother seemed perfect in her mom and dad's eyes, they favored him over her.
Belle and Devon's apartment was actually in the same building as my and Grayson's, but it was on two floors down. It was perfect for when Belle and I wanted to hang out, but we were too lazy to go anyway far.
I knocked on the door and Belle opened it with a smile. "I was wondering when you would get here," she said.
"Relax," I said with an eye roll as I walked in. "Is Devon here?"
Belle shook her head. "No, he's working right now, which is good because I need some serious girl talk right now." She led me to the living room where three girls were sitting. "This is Poppy," she said to them. "Poppy, this is Mina," she gestured to a girl with short, brown hair, "Jenna," she gestured to a girl with red hair tied in a ponytail, "and Bianca," she gestured to a girl with a blond pixie cut.
I sat down in an empty chair as Belle sat in another one. "So, what were we talking about?" Belle asked the three girls.
"Oh, about the cutest guy we saw," Mina said. "Well, I saw."
Jenna frowned. "I saw him too."
"Well, I called dibs on him," Mina said. I raised an eyebrow. Were girls really calling dibs on a guy?
"What's his name?" Belle asked.
Mina sighed. "That, I don't know. I didn't get the chance to talk to him because he left as soon as class ended. But he's just so..." She let out a dreamy sigh.
"What does he look like?" Belle asked.
"He's blonde," Mina said. "Tall. Very muscular. And his smile... His smile is just amazing."
"Sounds amazing," I said with a hint of sarcasm. I didn't mean for it to come out that way, but it did.
Mina looked at me, her eyes narrowing a bit. "I'm sorry, but it's my choice if I like him or not."
"Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come out that way," I said sincerely. "But... There's more to a guy than just his looks. What if he actually has a horrible personality?"
Mina shook her head. "Trust me, that guy doesn't. I can just tell. It's like love at first sight." She seemed certain that her and the mystery guy would be together. Then again, she was right. It was her choice if she liked him or not.
"Try talking to him tomorrow," Belle said. "And he's in your class, so maybe sit beside him. And once you find out his name, tell us. We can help you get together with him."
Mina smiled. "Really? Thanks, that would be nice."
They all continued talking about boys and I honestly tuned them out. It wasn't a topic I was interested in.
I pulled out my cell phone and decided to text Grayson. He always replied to me right away, no matter what I was texting him about. It was yet another thing I loved about him.
"Poppy," Belle said. "I asked you a question."
"Sorry," I said. "What was the question?
"I asked if you have any tips for Mina since you have a boyfriend."
"So do you," I pointed out.
"Yeah, but you've been with yours longer than I've been with mine," Belle said. "Devon and I were broken up for, like, eight months. So, any advice for her?"
I thought for a bit. "Well, the only advice I have is that if he doesn't accept you for who you are and for the things you enjoy doing, he isn't worth it."
"Yeah, I already know that," Mina said with an eye roll. "Any helpful advice?"
I had to admit, I wasn't really liking Mina. She had a bit of attitude and I was trying to help her. I didn't have to give her any advice at all. "Then I don't have any," I said, turning back to my phone. I really wanted to leave now, even if I did want to hang out with Belle.
"Wow, hopefully you give your boyfriend more attention than your phone," Mina said.
I looked up at her. "Actually, I was texting my boyfriend, so yes, I do give him more attention." I ignored her and went back to my phone. She was irritating the crap out of me.
I looked at Belle. "I have to go," I said.
Belle frowned. "Aw, already?"
I nodded and stood up. "Yeah, sorry. He needs help with dinner because apparently, he cut his finger."
Mina snorted. "He cut his finger? Aw, is he a big baby?" Jenna and Bianca giggled. Yup, definitely not fond of her.
"I'm sorry, are you comparing him to your boyfriend?" I asked. "Oh, wait."
"I've had plenty of boyfriends before," Mina said, crossing her arms. "And none of them complained when they cut their fingers."
"Yeah?" I asked. "Have they ever jumped in front of a bullet for you?"
"Yours never did that," Mina said with an eye roll.
"Actually, he did," Belle said. "My boyfriend witnessed it."
"So he got shot, but he's complaining about a cut?" Mina asked. "Wow. Some boyfriend."
"You don't even know him," I said. "So stop talking crap about him." With that, I walked out of Belle's apartment and admittedly slammed the door shut behind me. I just met Mina and she was being so rude to me. I hated people who were like that.
I angrily got back inside my apartment, once again slamming the door. "Whoa, what did that door ever do to you?" Grayson asked. He was sitting on the couch, watching TV.
I sat down beside him, crossing my arms over his chest. "Nothing," I muttered.
"Hey, are you okay?" he asked, pausing the TV and scooting closer to me. He put his arm around my shoulder and gently rubbed my arm.
I sighed. "No, not really. One of Belle's new friends is a real jerk. She called you a baby?"
"Why?" he asked.
"Because you supposedly cut your finger," I said. "And earlier, she said she hopes I give you more attention than my phone because I was using it. And I gave her some advice and she..."
I was cut off by Grayson's lips on mine. He pulled away, keeping his face close to mine. "I really needed you to shut up," he said. "Don't listen to her, okay? The only opinions that should matter to you are yours and mine. And your family's. And Belle's. But Belle's opinions suck."
I sighed. "Why do you hate her? You don't see me hating one of your best friends."
"Your my only best friend," Grayson said. "Wow, that's sad."
"Loser," I teased.
"That's cold, Flower," he said. "I'm wounded now. You have to make it up to me."
I rolled my eyes before pressing my lips on his. I loved the way Grayson and I were able to tease each other without getting offended. We had only ever been in two huge arguments, excluding the times where I was in a bad mood and didn't want to talk to anyone. He never argued with me when I was in a bad mood, though. It was always me arguing with him.
"So," Grayson said when he pulled away. "I was thinking we order in some pizza then watch some movies. Sounds good?"
I smiled at him. "Sounds great."
