Chapter 93
Chapter 17
Grayson's first shift at the cafe was three days after his interview and unfortunately, we had a huge project assigned to us. However, it was a partner project that we could choose our partners, so Grayson and I paired up, of course.
After my last class ended, I went home to drop off all of my stuff except for my laptop and Intro to Biology notes. And I wanted to relax for a bit before going to the cafe. Once Grayson's last class of the day ended, his shift was going to begin, so I headed out of the apartment and went to the cafeteria.
It was extremely crowded when I got there. The line up was so long, that it almost went out the door. And most of the tables were filled. It was rarely this crowded.
Belle walked into the cafe shortly after I did and she groaned loudly. "Man, I was hoping to get in and out with some coffee."
"And I'm really craving the cookies from here," I said. "Why is it so full anyway?"
"I have no idea," Belle said. "There's nothing that special about this place, anyway. People can get coffee and cookies at the university."
"Then why are you getting coffee here?" I asked.
Belle shrugged. "I don't know. I was just in the mood for this coffee. Hopefully this doesn't take to long." Two girls who just received their coffee were about to walk out the door when Belle stopped them. "Hey, do you know why it's so crowded here?"
One of the girls smiled. "Yeah, or at least I think I do. There's this really cute worker that's working today and some girls have been trying to slip him their number. He won't accept any of them and I think there's a competition to see who will be the first one."
"Why?" Belle asked with a raised eyebrow. "He's just a normal guy."
"You probably won't say that once you see him," the girl said with a smile.
"Actually, I would because I have a boyfriend," Belle said. The two girls just rolled their eyes before walking out of the cafe. Belle scoffed and looked at me. "Are these girls serious right now? They're really competing to get a boy's number?"
"I don't really care what they're doing," I said. "I just need my cookies."
It took almost half an hour of waiting in line for me to get to the counter. Grayson was working there, taking everyone's orders. "Hey, Flower," he said. "The usual?"
"Yup," I said. "I'm deprived from the cookies and I had to wait for half an hour in that dreadfully long line." I pulled my wallet out of my pocket as Grayson added the total cost of my five cookies. Yes, I always bought that much.
"Well, we have a fresh batch so I'll make sure you get the best," Grayson said with a smile.
I smiled back as I handed him the money. "Just out of curiosity," I said. "Have girls been trying to give you their number?"
"Actually, yeah," he said. So he was the cute worker the girls were obsessing over. I completely understood. I mean, my boyfriend definitely was quite the sight, not to brag or anything. "Don't worry, I haven't accepted any."
"I know," I said. "Can you hurry up with my cookies? I'm starving."
"Okay, okay, you don't have to be pushy," Grayson said. After I got my cookies, I told Grayson I was going to be at a nearby table and starting on our project. He gave me a smile before I went to an empty table and sat down.
I took my laptop out of my bag and set it on the table, breaking a piece off of one of the cookies and eating. I was seriously obsessed with the cookies and ate at least five whenever I went to the cafe. They were just that delicious.
I was able to get a bit of the project done before I was close to banging my head on the table. Grayson was better at understanding all this biology stuff and what our professor talked about. Don't get me wrong, I liked biology, but sometimes it was hard for me to understand, especially because I was now in university.
I kept working on the project until I felt like I couldn't do anymore on my own. I finished eating all my cookies by then and I was starting to feel hungry. I was always hungry recently and it got quite annoying. This baby ate a lot.
To take a break from the project, I decided to play Minecraft for a bit. Grayson and I were working on a world and we had so much done already. Well, he had had a lot. Last time we played, a creeper blew up our garden and part of Grayson's house. He got pissed and started swearing at the creeper, cue eye roll.
I was rebuilding the garden when Grayson sat down beside me. "Minecraft?" he asked. "What happened to the project?"
"I'm taking a break," I said. "Speaking of, are you on your break now?"
"I wouldn't be sitting beside you if I wasn't," Grayson pointed out. "By the way, a creeper has been stalking you for a bit." I turned around in the game, seeing that there was a creeper following me. I hit it a few times with my bow and arrows before it died. "Loser. That's what you get for blowing up my house, you damn idiot."
I saved the game before exiting. "You do realize that it was a different creeper, right?"
"They're all the same," Grayson said. "They're all devil spawns."
I rolled my eyes. "So, how is your first day of work so far?"
"It's okay," he said. "It's been really busy ever since I got on shift."
I snorted. "Yeah, I know," I muttered. Grayson furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at me. I cleared my throat and opened the project on my laptop. "This is how much I did so far. Is it good?"
Grayson read it over before giving me a smile. "It's great. I didn't even expect you to do this much by yourself. My break is only fifteen minutes and when I get back on it, don't do anymore, okay? I don't want you to be too stressed. And the project isn't even due for another week."
"I just wanted to get started on it," I said. "And by the way..."
"Let me guess, you're hungry?" Grayson asked. I nodded, which caused him to sigh. "You eat way too much. Want some more cookies? Wait, actually, you should try the double fudge brownies. I know how much you like chocolate and the brownies are really good."
"I'll go get some," I said, standing up from my chair. The line wasn't that long this time, thankfully, so I got some of the brownies in no time. I sat back down beside Grayson, seeing that he was working on the project. I gave him two out of the four brownies I bought and looked to see what he wrote so far. "How come you're better at this than me?"
Grayson shrugged. "I don't know. Why, is it shocking that I'm good at school?"
"Kind of," I admitted. "Remember in grade eleven when we were supposed to dissect frogs but you decided to play with the frog?"
Grayson chuckled. "Yeah, I do. And I only did that because you didn't want to dissect it and we would be kicked out of class. It worked, didn't it?"
"Yes, but you ended up getting suspended for a week," I reminded. "I was all alone without my best friend with me."
"I'm glad you think highly are me," Grayson said, giving me a smirk. "Want to keep working on the project during my break?"
"There's really no point," I said. "You're going back to work soon and I'm not going to work on it then." I saved the project and closed my laptop. "I'm bored."
"You're always bored," he said. "You can play Minecraft again."
"Not right now," I said. "I might just go on Netflix."
"Is Netflix your answer for everything?" Grayson asked.
"Yes," I said, taking out my phone. "Here, pick something for me to watch."
Grayson grabbed my phone and scrolled through the movie list. "No... No... Definitely not... Whoa, no way..."
"What's up with the movies you're declining?" I asked.
"I'm trying to find something where the lead isn't a male," Grayson said, his eyes still on my phone. "I don't need you ogling them."
"At least you don't see guys giving me their number," I muttered under my breath.
"What?"
"Nothing," I said. "Just put on Mockingjay or something."
Grayson snorted. "Yeah, I don't think so. You ogle that Gale guy whenever we watch it."
"I do not," I said. I kind of did. "Just put on a movie before I pick one myself."
Grayson tapped my screen before handing me the phone. "Here."
I looked at the screen before looking at Grayson with a flat look. "Seriously? My Little Pony? Are you crazy?"
"What?" he asked with an innocent smile.
I rolled my eyes before exiting out of the movie and putting on Mockingjay. "I should have just picked this in the first place," I said, plugging my earphones into the phone. "You can just suffer and watch me ogle Liam Hemsworth."
Grayson stared at me for a bit before taking my phone out of my hand and putting it in his pocket. "Nope."
"Grayson!" I said. "Give it back!"
"Nah."
"Come on, that's not fair," I said. "I have to watch girls ogle you, yet you don't see me complain."
"What?"
"The whole girls giving you their number thing?"
"That's different."
I raised an eyebrow. "Grayson, there's nothing wrong with me ogling a celebrity. Everyone does it! It's not like I'm going to meet him and dump you for him. Besides, you're the only guy I'll ever want, as I had said many times before. So can I please have my phone back?"
Grayson sighed, taking my phone out of his pocket and handing it to me. "You're lucky I love you, Flower."
I smiled at him before putting one of the earphones in. "And I love you too, but not as much as Liam Hemsworth."
"Wow, that's cold," Grayson said. "And after everything I've done for you."
"Dork."
Grayson kissed the side of my head before standing up. "My break is done in a minute, so I have to go back to work. But don't worry, I have three more hours and then I'm done."
"Wow, only three hours?" I said sarcastically. "Can't wait."
Grayson rolled his eyes before going back to his job. I got comfortable in the seat I was in, putting the other earphone in my ear as I started the movie. I was hoping my phone could last for the next three hours without dying or else I was going to be extremely bored. Then again, I could always go on my laptop.
I made it through the movie and now, there was only 45 minutes left of Grayson's shift. I could always go home and relax there, but I was too lazy to stand up right now.
I looked over at the line up, seeing that a lot of people were there. And that was also when I noticed the girl at the front of the line was trying to slip her number to Grayson. He gave it back to her, though, causing her to frown.
I got up from my seat, taking my bag with me and going to the end of the line. I needed more food, and I still wanted some of the cookies. I knew I should probably stop eating as much, but I couldn't help it.
When I got to the front of the line, Grayson raised an eyebrow. "Back for more cookies?" he asked.
"Yup," I said. "Only two this time, though."
"Sure thing, Flower," Grayson said. "And I'm paying this time."
"Yeah, you're not paying when you're working," I said, grabbing my wallet. "I can pay for myself."
"No, I'm paying," Grayson said.
"Grayson, you're not paying," I said, handing him the money. He sighed and took it. "I swear, sometimes, you try way to hard to be a gentleman."
"Trying and succeeding."
"Succeeding, no."
Grayson rolled his eyes and took two of the cookies out of the display case, putting it in a paper bag and handing it to me. "Here you go. Two cookies and later, we get to make out."
"You have an obsession," I said. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to sit down and watch girl after girl try to give you their number."
Grayson rested his elbow on the counter, leaning over a bit. "Well, it doesn't really matter because you're the only one I have eyes for. Now go eat your cookies. You're holding up the line."
"You're the one flirting with me," I said, just to tease him as I walked back to my seat.
It wasn't long before Grayson was officially off the clock. After checking out, he picked up his school bag from the staff room and walked over to me. "Time to go home, Flower," he said. "And I am not working tomorrow, so we can relax all we want after university."
