Chapter 79
Chapter 3
"Are you freaking kidding me?" was the first thing I heard Grayson say when I walked into the apartment. He was talking on the phone, looking quite angry. "I'm your cousin, Elliot. You should have told me before announcing it online. What, did you announced it online before telling your dad...? That's not the point! I would have like to know before people who aren't even related to you..." He saw me standing by the doorway, looking concerned. However, he kept freaking out at Elliot. "How would you feel if the roles were reversed? What if I announced mine online before telling you...? Yeah, exactly... Fine, hang up. See if I care."
"Is everything okay?" I asked once Grayson hung up his phone.
"Nope, not at all," he said. "Elliot decided to announce something on Facebook before telling me about it. A lot of people that aren't even related to her found out before me."
"What did she announce?" I asked as I walked over to him.
"She got engaged," Grayson said.
I couldn't help but smile. "Aww, really? That's amazing!"
"No, it's not," Grayson said. "She never told me about it. I go on Facebook only to see that she is engaged to Laughlin. Neither of them called to tell me about it."
I gave him a fake pout. "Are you a grumpy cat?" I asked.
Grayson scowled. "Funny. I wish she told..." Not wanting to hear him complain anymore, I reached up and pulled him down to me, pressing my lips on his. When I pulled away, he cleared his throat. "Thank you for shutting me up. I'm gong to take a nap."
"Okay," I said. "I'll wake you when it's dinner." I gave him another kiss before he went to our bedroom.
I pulled out my cell phone and called Elliot. "Hello?" she answered.
"Elliot, congratulations!" I said.
"Thank you," she said and I could tell she was smiling. "Did Grayson tell you?"
"Yeah, I came home to him arguing with you," I said. "I can't believe you and Laughlin are getting married. That's amazing! When did you get engaged?"
"A few hours ago," Elliot said. "He took me to a special place he showed me a bit before we started dating and proposed to me. I still can't believe it. Everyone's telling us that we're too young, but we love each other."
"Honestly, I didn't even think about your ages," I said. Elliot was my age, eighteen, and Laughlin was Grayson's age, nineteen. "And even of you are young, I know you'll last."
"Thank you," Elliot said. "It's nice to hear that after a lot of people say we are too young. They still congratulate us, though. Oh, I was planning on calling you anyway. Would you like to be the maid of honor?"
"Really?" I asked with a smile. "But what about Mary?" Mary was Elliot's best friend.
Elliot sighed. "She isn't that comfortable being part of the wedding. She'll still attend, but she said she can't be the maid of honor or even a bridesmaid. She was completely fine with me dating Laughlin after they broke up, but now that we are getting married, it's a bit uncomfortable for her."
"Oh, I get it," I said. "In that case, I'd love to be the maid of honor."
"Great!" Elliot said. "Laughlin's going to ask Grayson to be the best man, by the way. After he calms down that is."
"He's taking a nap now so get Laughlin to call in about an hour or so," I said.
"Will do," Elliot said. "Well, I got to go. My dad's taking me and Laughlin out to dinner."
"Have fun," I said. "Congratulation again."
Elliot thanked me again before we hung up. I went to the kitchen to make dinner and since Grayson was in a bad mood, I decided to make his favorite food; fries. As well as chicken nuggets.
When I was putting the fries in the deep fryer, a pair of strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind me. "What are you making?" Grayson asked in a low voice.
"Dinner," I said. "What happened to your nap?"
"I napped for a good five minutes," Grayson said. "Then I smelled the chicken nuggets and I'm hungry."
"Are you feeling calmer now?" I asked.
Grayson sighed. "Yeah. I was just upset that she never told me personally. Out of all the cousins, we're the closest. She's like my sister at times. I wish she told me, but there's nothing I can do about it." He kissed the side of my head and tightened his hold around me. "You're going to be my date to the wedding, okay?"
I finished putting the fries into the deep fryer, so I turned to face Grayson. He kept his arms wrapped around my waist. "Of course I will," I said, not wanting to tell him that I was going to be the maid of honor. I decided to wait until Laughlin called him to see if he wanted to be the best man. "Did Elliot tell you when the wedding is?"
"Sometime in January," Grayson said. "So basically, they have less than five months to plan. They really want to get married."
"Well, they really love each other," I pointed out. "Does it bother you that Elliot is only eighteen and Laughlin is nineteen?"
Grayson shook his head. "Not really. Elliot's birthday is at the beginning of January, so she'll be nineteen when they get married. Why?"
"I called Elliot," I said. "She told me a lot of people are saying they're too young, even though they still congratulate them. I don't really care abut their age. I'm happy for them."
"Me too," Grayson said, resting his forehead on mine. "And one day, that will be us."
I gave him a smile. "You think so?"
Grayson gave me a kiss. "I know so. The promise ring on your finger knows so."
It wasn't long before dinner was ready. Grayson and I sat down at the small table in the kitchen. Our apartment wasn't that big since it was just the two of us, but we didn't care. We didn't need all the room, anyway.
When Grayson was almost done eating since he was a quick eater, his cell phone rang. He looked at the caller id and sighed before answering it. "If you're calling to tell me about the engagement, I already know," Grayson said. "Your fiancée decided to tell everyone on Facebook before calling me... No, sorry, I am calm now. After all, I had a five minute nap and I ate some fries... Really? The best man? Don't you have a devil spawn -I mean, brother?" I rolled my eyes. Grayson did not get along with Laughlin's thirteen year old brother. "She is? She never told me that? Yeah, sure, I'll be the best man... Congratulations by the way. And tell Elliot that. I never really got to tell her since I was freaking out at her... Yes, tell her I'm sorry as well. Oh, and you better be a damn good husband to her or I will kick your ass... I don't care if you're a boxer. She's my cousin and she deserves the very best... I know you will, I'm just giving you a warning... Okay, yeah. Oh, and tell your brother than he can screw himself."
"Grayson!" I said as he hung up. "Was that necessary?"
"Yes," Grayson said. "Munro is so annoying."
"He's thirteen," I pointed out. "If he annoys you, then be the bigger person and ignore him."
Grayson scoffed. "Yeah, right. He's a brat and a devil spawn."
I rolled my eyes. "So I've heard." I finished eating my dinner before getting up and dropping the plate into the sink. Shortly after, I got a text from Belle asking if I wanted to meet up with her, Mina, Jenna, and Bianca at a nearby cafe. As much as I wanted to hang out with Belle, I didn't really want to be around Mina. I was still mad at her for the attitude she gave me a few days ago. Not to mention yesterday, she told me that the guy she liked was better looking than my boyfriend. She hasn't even seen Grayson before, and looks weren't everything on a guy.
So I told Belle I wasn't really in the mood to go out anywhere. She was fine with it, thankfully.
"Flower? Want to go to that cafe nearby?" Grayson asked. "I'm in the mood for one of their cookies."
I sighed. "I would, but Belle is there and I already told her I wasn't in the mood to go out anywhere."
"Then I will go pick up some cookies and come back here," Grayson said as he put on his shoes. "White macadamia nut, right?" I nodded as he walked over. He pressed a quick kiss on my lips. "I'll be back in ten minutes. I love you."
"I love you, too," I said before he left the apartment.
I sat on the couch and decided to watch some TV while I waited for Grayson to come back. When he did, he flopped down beside me on the couch and pulled a white macadamia nut cookie out of the paper bag he was holding. "For you, babe," he said. "Have you had one of the cookies yet?"
I shook my head. "No, I haven't been to the cafe yet."
"Then you are in for a treat," he said. "They have the best cookies ever. Even better than the one by the beach."
I took a bite and was instantly in love with the cookie. "Holy crap," I said, not even caring that my mouth was filled with food. "This is so good!"
Grayson smiled. "See? I think we have to go there from now on. No more cafe by the beach."
"Aww, but that's our special place," I said.
"That's right," Grayson said. "I took you there when you skipped school for the first time. You were a rebellious little girl."
I rolled my eyes and scooted closer to him on the couch. "I actually wouldn't mind going to the new one from now on," I said honestly. "Hopefully we'll have better memories there than the other one."
Grayson furrowed his eyebrows, looking confused before he finally understood what I was talking about. "Right. The shooting."
I looked down. "And we were going there when we got into the car crash."
"You're not still thinking about that, are you?" Grayson asked.
"Honestly, yeah, I am," I said. "I know it was almost a year ago, but... I still get nightmares about it. About you never waking up from that coma or me being paralyzed forever."
Grayson placed the paper bag on the coffee table and wrapped both of his arms around me. "Flower, don't think about it," he said. "It's over now. I'm fine, you're fine. We're passed it. I don't even blame myself for it anymore."
I nodded and curled myself into him. I was happy I was at university now. Maybe I could finally put my high school life behind me.
