Chapter 89
Chapter 13
I was actually going to be leaving the apartment for once, excluding when I went to university. I feel like I had been trapped inside my house, so when Elliot called to see if I wanted to go with her to help her pick out a wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses, I said yes. Elliot's mom passed away at a young age and her best friend was still uncomfortable with Elliot getting married, so she didn't really have anyone to go with, another reason why I said yes. I considered her a good friend of mine and I wanted her wedding to be great.
When someone knocked on the front door, Grayson got up to answer. "Hi!" I heard Elliot say.
"Poppy?!" Grayson called. "Elliot's here! And so is the devil spawn!"
I rolled my eyes as I got up from the couch and walked over to the door. Both Elliot and Laughlin were there, as well as Laughlin's thirteen year old and nine year old brothers, Munro and Nick. Grayson and Munro didn't get along at all.
"Ready to go?" Elliot asked. Laughlin, Munro, and Nick were staying with Grayson to hang out for a bit since Laughlin has been feeling stressed planning for the wedding and needed to relax. And since he had custody of his younger brothers, they had to be with him.
I nodded. "Yeah, just let me put my shoes on."
"Okay," Elliot said as I put on my shoes. "And Grayson, can you try to convince Laughlin to get a new suit?"
"Why get a new one when I have one?" Laughlin asked.
Elliot raised an eyebrow. "Your prom suit? Please get a new one?"
Laughlin sighed and kissed his fiancée. "Fine, I'll get a new one. I hate not being able to say no to your cute little face. Now go and get your wedding dress. And show me after."
"Yeah, I'm still not going to show you," Elliot said as I finished putting on my shoes. "You get to wait until the wedding."
Laughlin groaned. "But that's in two months."
"Baby," Munro muttered under his breath.
"Be quiet, Munro," Laughlin said, glaring at his younger brother.
Grayson gave me a hug before I left. "Go have fun," he said. "And call me if you need anything."
"I will," I said. Grayson smiled and gave me a quick kiss. I then left with Elliot so we could head to the wedding boutique she told me about. It wasn't far from the apartment, thankfully. We were going to be walking and I didn't want to walk for too long. As soon as we walked into the boutique, one of the workers approached us. "Hi," she said with a warm smile. "My name is Maria. How can I help you today?"
"We're looking for both a wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses," Elliot said, returning the smile.
"Is there any type of dress you want?" Maria asked.
"Something simple," Elliot said. "My fiancé and I don't want to go too crazy with the dresses."
Maria nodded and gestured for us to follow her. she led us to the wedding dresses section and to a certain rack. "These dresses are simple and not too extravagant, but still very gorgeous.; See something you like? If you choose more than one, you can try them on to see which one you can see yourself getting married in."
Elliot smiled as she began looking through the dresses. It wasn't long before she stopped, looking a bit speechless. "Whoa," she breathed. "It's so pretty."
I looked at the dress she chose and couldn't help but smile as well. It was such a simple dress, but that was what made it beautiful. "It's amazing," I agreed.
"Do you think Laughlin will like it?" Elliot asked.
"He's marrying you, I'm pretty sure he'll like anything you wear," I said. "But yes. I think he'll love it."
"Would you like to try it on?" Maria asked.
"Yes, please," Elliot said, her smile growing even bigger. Maria took the dress off of the shelf and gestured for Elliot and I to follow. There was an area for trying on the dresses; a dressing room and a couch for anyone waiting. Maria gave Elliot the dress and she went into the dressing room.
"So, I'm guessing you're the maid of honor," Maria said. "Most of the time, the maid of honor comes here with the bride."
I nodded. "Yeah, she's my boyfriend's cousin and since we're close friends, she asked me to be the maid of honor and my boyfriend is the best man."
"That's nice," Maria said with a smile.
It wasn't long before Elliot walked out of the dressing room. In my honest opinion, the dress was perfect for her. She normally wasn't one to wear dresses, so it being simply made it perfect. "So?" she asked. "What do you think?"
"I think it's perfect," I said. "It's definitely the one."
"Really?" she asked. I nodded. "Yeah, I think it's the one, too. I didn't expect it to be so easy to find a dress. I'll get changed and then we can look for bridesmaid dresses." When she finished getting changed, she walked out of the dressing room with the dress.
"I'll take that," Maria said, carefully taking the dress from Elliot. "I'll put it in a dress bag while you search for bridesmaid dresses. They're on the right side of the store."
Elliot thanked her before we went to the bridesmaid section. "Did you and Laughlin want a specific color?" I asked.
"Yes, blue," Elliot said. "I wanted red, but he said blue because it matches my eyes." She rolled her eyes even though she had a smile on her face. "And any shade of blue is fine as long." I nodded as I began scanning through the dresses, trying to find one that Elliot might like.
Maria came back and Elliot told her the preferences. After a few minutes of searching, Maria came up with a dress and showed it to Elliot. She loved the color, as did I. It was a simple blue, almost navy but not quite.
"I think it's perfect," Elliot said. "Poppy, try it on since you're the maid of honor."
Maria handed me the dress and we went to the changing area. I went in the dressing room and put on the dress, though it was a little tight around the stomach. I sighed and looked in the mirror. The baby bump wasn't quite there yet and the wedding wasn't for three months.
I walked out of the dressing room and Elliot smiled. "Yup, that's the perfect dress for the bridesmaids!"
"Hopefully it still fits me in January," I said.
Elliot furrowed her eyebrows. "Why wouldn't it?" she asked.
"It's a little tight around the stomach," I said.
"And?"
I caught my mistake. "Oh, nothing, nothing," I said. Grayson and I still didn't tell anyone that I was pregnant. We wanted to tell my family first on Thanksgiving, along with his siblings. After that, we were going to tell only our close friends. We didn't really want to announce it to everyone.
Elliot gave me a weird look before looking at Maria. "Do you have any more of the dress?" she asked. "Including my maid of honor, there's four bridesmaids."
Maria nodded. "We keep one out for display and trying on, and we have the rest in the storage room. What are the sizes?"
Elliot told her the sizes and Maria went to get them, taking the dress with her after I got changed so she can find the matching ones.
When Maria came back with the dresses, we went to the front desk so Elliot could pay for them. Maria put the dresses in a bag and gave it to me to carry, which I didn't mind. Elliot was going to be carrying her wedding dress and it wouldn't be fair for her to carry her bridesmaid dresses as well.
We thanked Maria before we walked out of the boutique. "Should we go back to my apartment?" I asked.
"Yeah, but first, what was up with the whole dress not fitting you thing?" Elliot asked. Darn, I was hoping she wouldn't question me about it. "The wedding is two months away. Of course the dress will still fit."
"Right, yeah, of course," I said. "Sorry, I'm just a little tired."
"Tired, right," she said in a tone that told me she didn't believe me. "Then why would you say it's a little tight around your stomach. I mean, I doubt your stomach is growing to grow drastically in... Holy crap."
"What?" I asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"You're pregnant, aren't you?" she asked.
"Well... maybe?"
"And Grayson didn't tell me?" she asked. "He was freaking out that I never told him about me getting engaged but he kept this from me? You know, I really have to talk to my cousin right now. Let's go back."
I sighed as we walked back to my apartment. As soon as we walked in, Elliot gently dropped the bag by the door before going to the living room. "Grayson Alan Prince! What the hell is your problem?!"
"Uh... What?" Grayson asked. I put the bag with the bridesmaid dresses beside the door as well, closing the door and going to the living room. I sat down beside Grayson, feeling relieved I didn't have to stand anymore.
"You're a hypocrite, you know that, right?" Elliot asked.
Grayson looked extremely confused. "Poppy, help me out here."
"It sort of slipped out," I said.
"What did?" he asked. I looked down at my stomach before looking at my boyfriend again. "Oh. That."
"Yeah, that," Elliot said, punching Grayson in the arm. "How can you not tell me?! You freaked out at me because I didn't tell you I was engaged before announcing it online, but you kept this from me!"
"It's not the same thing," Grayson pointed out. "And we didn't exactly tell anyone yet, so it's not like anyone found out before you."
"What's going on?" Laughlin asked. "Ellie, what are you freaking out about?"
Elliot huffed and sat down beside her fiancé. "Ask Grayson."
Grayson sighed. "Can you please calm down? Like I said, we haven't told anyone yet. Poppy's parents don't even know yet."
"Oh," Elliot said, calming down a bit. "Then I'm sorry for freaking out. It just shocked me."
"Yeah, us too," I said.
"I'm still confused as to what Elliot was freaking out about," Laughlin said.
"Don't tell anyone," Grayson said. "We don't want anyone knowing yet, but Poppy and I are going to have a baby."
"You're... She's... What?"
"I'll spell it out for you," Munro said. "Poppy is pregnant. There. Got it?"
"How are babies made?" Nick asked.
"Well, you see, Nick," Munro said. "First, a man has to..." Laughlin immediately shut up his little brother by slapping him upside his head. "Ow!"
"Shut it, Munro," Laughlin said. "Stop telling your brother things he shouldn't be knowing at his age."
"He's going to learn it eventually," Munro said. "No time like the present."
Laughlin narrowed his eyes at Munro, getting him to shut up before he looked at Grayson. "So you're going to be a dad?" Laughlin asked. "And Poppy is going to be a mom?"
"Yeah," Grayson said.
"How far along are you?" Elliot asked me.
"Nine weeks," I said.
Elliot raised an eyebrow. "Nine weeks? And you haven't told anyone yet?"
"We're going to tell my family on Thanksgiving," I said. "And then we were going to tell our close friends after my family knew."
"Why wait so long?" Elliot asked.
I shrugged. "I don't know. I want to tell my parents in person, for sure. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I should say."
"Well, if you ever need anything, we'll be here," Elliot offered.
"Thanks," I said.
