Chapter 82
Chapter 6
If there was one thing I hated about school, it was waking up early, even if I did get enough sleep. My alarm went off, causing me to groan loudly. I turned it off and rubbed my eyes as I sat up. I looked beside me, seeing that Grayson's side of the bed was empty. Odd. He hated getting up early and normally slept through the alarm.
I sighed, pulling myself out of bed and walking to my dresser. I pulled on a pair of jeans and a loose-fitting t-shirt before walking out of the room.
"Morning, Flower," Grayson said from the kitchen. He was at the stove, cooking what I think was sausages and scrambled eggs. "Have a good sleep?"
I was still a bit mad at him, so I just rubbed my eyes in reply.
"Still mad?" Grayson asked as he turned off the stove. He then grabbed two plates from the cupboard and served food onto it. He walked to the table and set them down. "I apologized, okay? I honestly forgot about us working on our assignments together. Like I said, people needed help with understanding the lecture and then I got assigned a group project and we decided to meet. I know I promised to work with you, but I did forget."
I looked down. "It hurt a lot, Grayson. I know you have other things to do but you promised and you've never broken one of your promises before. It hurt."
"I know, and I'm really, really sorry," he said. "I won't break another promise, okay? To make it up to you, I even made breakfast and you know how much I hate waking up early. It's worse when I was working hard on the assignment and didn't finish until eleven."
I gave him a faint smile and wrapped my arms around him. "You're forgiven. Sorry I got so mad. I was just under a lot of stress from the assignment."
"It's okay," he said. "You have every right to be mad. Come on, let's eat breakfast, then we'll head to the cafe for coffee. My treat."
"It's always your treat," I said. "You refuse to let me pay whenever we're together. I can pay for myself."
"There's really no point for you to pay," he said. "We live together and basically share the money we have. That, and I'm awesome."
I rolled my eyes as I began to eat. "Sure you are," I said sarcastically. I took one bite of the scrambled eggs and was immediately shocked about he delicious it tasted. "Holy crap. I had no idea you knew how to cook." I was the one who did all the cooking, which I didn't mind, so Grayson never cooked for me before.
He was even better than me.
Grayson gave me a smile. "There's a lot you don't know about me. Just kidding, you know pretty much everything about me. I don't cook that much, but I do know how to use spices properly."
"You need to cook for us more," I said. "You know, if you ever get out of bed."
"Ouch, you wounded me, Flower," he said. "I think I have to go to the hospital now. My heart just broke in a million pieces."
I rolled my eyes. "Ha-ha. Very funny. But seriously, you have to cook for us more. This is really good."
"Anything for my girl," he said before learning over the table and kissing my cheek. "Now hurry up and eat if you want to go to the cafe before class."
After we finished eating, we put our plates in the sink and grabbed our bags, making sure our assignment was in there. I had to quickly print mine off before we head out, though, since I went to be early last night.
Grayson took my hand in his, something he always did when we walked to the university. I always loved the simple things he did. It was sweet.
We got to the cafe and ordered our usually before heading to the university. Class was starting in five minutes, so we found a set and took out our assignments so we could hand them in when we had to.
"Hopefully we don't get any assignments like this again," Grayson said, leaning back in his seat. "Or if we do, we should have more time to complete it, not two days."
"Exactly," I said. "I was stressing over it so much."
"At least tomorrow's the weekend," Grayson said. "We can sleep in, go to the beach, play video games."
"I can't wait," I said as the professor walked into the class. Immediately, we had to hand in our assignments, so Grayson stood up and took mine from me, saying he would hand it in for me so I didn't have to get up. I smiled and thanked him as he walked to the front of the class and gave the professor our assignments.
For the rest of the class, we had a lecture, one that I couldn't understand at all. I was trying to take notes, but I couldn't really clue in a thing he was saying. To make things worse, he told us about another assignment we had. However, this time we could do it with a partner if we wanted and it was due in a week.
Once everyone had a partner, we had to get the outline for the assignment. Grayson got up to get it and sat back down beside me. "This should be an easy one," he said. "'The Effect of Alkaline and Acids on Bacterial Growth'."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Easy?" I asked. "That sounds hard."
"He was explaining alkaline and acids in the lecture," Grayson said. "Weren't you listening?"
I sighed. "Honestly, no. I tried but I couldn't understand a single thing he was saying."
"Don't worry, I did," Grayson said. "When I get home after my last class, I'll go over it with you, then we'll get started on the assignment."
"Promise?" I asked.
"Of course, I promise," he said with a smile, taking my hand and helping me up from my seat since class was over. Like I said, I loved the simple things he did for me. He then helped me put everything back into my bag and put in on my shoulder. He then kissed my cheek before taking my hand and leading me out of the room.
We then had separate classes, so Grayson led me to mine before going to his. He gave me a kiss, telling me he would see me at home.
The rest of my classes were easier than the first one. When they finished, I got home and flopped on the couch. Grayson had one more class than me everyday, so he wouldn't be home for another hour. I turned on Netflix and found an interesting movie before settling in the couch. I needed to relax after the somewhat stressful day.
I got up about five minutes into the movie and grabbed a bag of chips, feeling a bit hungry. I snacked on the chips while watching the movie, feeling very tranquil. It was good to relax since yesterday, I was stressing over the assignment.
The movie finished and Grayson wasn't home. I checked my watch. He finished his class half an hour ago. He should be home soon, even though our home was five minutes away from the university by walking.
I put the bag of chips back in the kitchen and sat back on the couch, picking another movie. I probably wouldn't get that far into it since Grayson should be home soon.
Or so I thought.
I finished the second movie, meaning he should have been home two hours ago. He wouldn't stand me up again, would he? I mean, I know we had the whole weekend to work on the assignment and for him to help me understand the lecture we had, but he promised he would help after his class. Were his promises to me really meaning nothing?
I would have started the assignment without him, but I couldn't since it had to do with the lecture and I didn't understand it at all. So, I decided to do the one thing that took my mind off of things; play video games.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 had to be one of my favorite games, so I put it in my PS4 and began playing it. However, even though video games normally took my mind off of things, I could barely concentrate and I was seriously losing the game. People were killing me almost immediately after I re-spawned and by the time that round was over, I was on the bottom of the list.
I sighed, turning off the game and going back onto Netflix. Grayson still wasn't home and I wasn't in the mood to call him, so I guessed I was going to have a movie marathon by myself. Before getting a movie started, I decided to order some more pizza. Grayson was sure missing out...
When the pizza arrived, I thanked the delivery man, paying him and including a tip. I then sat down on the couch and placed the pizza box on the coffee table.
All this time, I was hoping Grayson would show up soon, but he didn't. I got through two more movies before I was starting to feel tired. I went to my room, grabbing a thin blanked from the bed and laid down on the couch, wrapping the blanket around me as I watched the next movie I put on.
I fell asleep around ten, I believe. Last time I checked the time, it was a bit before ten and I fell asleep shortly after.
It wasn't long before I was shaken awake. I slowly opened my eyes, seeing Grayson crouched by the couch. "What time is it?" I asked.
"About eleven-thirty," he said. "What time did you fall asleep?"
"Around ten," I said. Then I remembered that he stood me up again. I turned around, having my back face him. "I'm sleeping on the couch tonight."
"What, why?" Grayson asked. "Our bed is comfier."
I couldn't believe it. He forgot once again that he promised to help me. That was two days in a row.
"Poppy?" he asked when I didn't answer. "Are you okay?"
"No, I'm not okay," I said, keeping my back towards him. "You stood me up again. You break another promise and this morning, you said it wouldn't happen again."
Grayson was silent for a bit before he sighed. "Poppy, I'm so sorry. I forgot and there was this party..."
That got my to turn to face him. "A party?" I asked. "You stood me up for a party? How could you?"
"I'm sorry, I forgot," he said. "We'll go over the lecture tomorrow, okay?"
"Don't bother," I said. "I'll just get Belle to explain it to me. She won't stand me up."
"Flower..."
"Don't Flower me," I said. "You broke your promise to me just so you could go to a party. I was waiting for you to come home and you never did. You just went to the party and to make things worse, you didn't even tell me." I turned around again and closed my eyes. "I'm going to sleep now."
"It was an honest mistake," Grayson said. "Besides, we have all weekend."
"Are you sure?" I asked. "Wouldn't you rather help other people or go to parties? You know, everything you stood me up for. And it's not the point that we have all weekend. The point is that you broke your promise to me. Again. They mean everything to me."
"I know they do," he said.
"It doesn't seem that way," I said. "Just... leave me alone now. I'm going to sleep."
Grayson didn't say anything else. I heard him walk off, followed by the bedroom door slamming shut.
