Chapter 96
Chapter 20
The buzzing of my alarm woke me up, causing me to groan loudly before I turned it off. I looked at the clock, seeing that it was half an hour to noon. Why would I set my alarm for eleven-thirty in the morning when it was winter break?
That was when it hit me. The ultrasound. The appointment was in two hours.
I sat up and looked over at my boyfriend, only to find him still sleeping with his adorable little snores. I never understood how he could sleep through the alarm on most days.
"Grayson," I said. He groaned a bit, but he didn't open his eyes. "Grayson."
"What?" he whined. "I'm trying to sleep."
"It's eleven-thirty," I said. "We need to get up."
"...Why?"
I sighed. He was always so oblivious when he was tired. "Because my ultrasound is in two hours. If we're lucky, we can find out the gender of our baby. Don't you want to know if you're going to get a daughter or a son?"
That got Grayson to open his eyes. "Of course I do, Flower, but it's too early."
"Too early?" I repeated. "Babe, like I said, it's eleven-thirty. It's almost noon."
"I like it when you call me babe."
I gave him a flat look. "Do you like to change topics? Please get up."
"I'll get up if you get up."
I sighed and pulled myself out of bed. "There. Now can you get up?"
Grayson closed his eyes and settles back into bed, turning so his back was facing me. "Twenty minutes," he muttered.
I didn't even bother trying to get him up. He never took too long to get ready anyway, so there was no harm in letting him rest for a bit longer while I made breakfast. Though, I did prefer him to make the breakfast because he was an amazing cook.
I went to the kitchen, looking in the fridge to see if there was anything I could make. In the end, I decided on scrambled eggs and sausages, something we normally had for breakfast.
When the sausage was sizzling on the oven, I was starting to get even more hungry. It was such a delicious smell and it didn't help that I was always hungry. I hated being all the time.
I blamed Grayson.
The breakfast was ready shortly, and Grayson was still in bed. I thought he would have been up when he smelled the sausage because that boy loved his meat; bacon and sausages especially.
I walked back to our bedroom and surprise, he was back asleep. So, I decided to be an awesome girlfriend.
And beat him with a pillow.
That woke him up and he pulled the pillow out of my hand. "Once, just once, can you wake me up without --without abusing me?"
I gave him a smile. "Nope. Breakfast is ready. I made sausages. I'm surprised you didn't smell them."
Grayson sat up, taking a good whiff of the air. "Oh, no, I smell them and damn, they smell good." He got out of bed and pulled me to the kitchen where the food was set at the table. When we were sitting down and eating, he looked at me. "So, let's say we don't find out what the gender is. How on earth will we know what to buy?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. Actually, I think what my parents did with Tony since they didn't find out was buy a few pajamas that looked like it could be for a boy or a girl and when he was born, they bought more clothes. But I really want to find out what gender the baby is. My mom keeps asking. Belle, too. And Elliot. And Tony. And my dad. And basically everyone that knows."
"Then, let's hope we find out," Grayson said with a smile before he finished his breakfast. I was still eating, so he went to the bedroom to get changed out of his pajamas before going to the washroom to brush his teeth and his extremely messy -yet very attractive- hair. He always looked fine, no matter how messy he looked.
I finished my breakfast, putting both our plates and silverware in the sink before washing them and letting them air dry. I then got changed before brushing my hair and teeth. I was about to put on some makeup, but Grayson pulled my our of the washroom. "Grayson, I'm not done."
"You don't need makeup," he said. "Besides, shouldn't we be going?"
"Yes, but..." He didn't let me finish as he pulled me towards the door and looked at me to put my shoes on. I sighed, knowing he wasn't going to let me put makeup on anyway. So, I put on my shoes as did he before he grabbed his keys and locked the apartment behind us.
I was really excited to go to the ultrasound. I was still about nervous and uncertain about the pregnancy, but I wanted to know the gender.
So, the car ride took longer than it normally did because I was so excited. Grayson was too, I could tell. The way he was tapping his fingers on the steering wheel to whatever tune was playing in his head showed it.
We got to the hospital and immediately went to where the appointment us. Dr. Raymond saw us and approached us. "Just in time," she said with a smile. "I know you're a few minutes early, but the previous couple cancelled at the last minute, so I can fit you in right now."
I smiled back. "Yeah, great," I said as she lead us into the room. I laid down and Grayson stood beside me, holding my hand like last time.
Dr. Raymond sat down on the stool beside where I was laying. "So, are you excited to find out the gender?" she asked. "Well, that's if you can. Sometimes, the baby likes to position itself in a way that we can't tell until further on or we can't tell at all."
"I am excited," I said. "As is basically everyone who knows about the pregnancy, my mom especially. She keeps asking if I found out the gender and I keep telling her that my appointment isn't until today."
She gestured for my to roll up my shirt and I did before she rubbed the gel on it. "Your mom must be happy, then," she said. "She took the news well?"
"Surprisingly well," I said. "She was actually crying of joy."
Dr. Raymond smiled. "That's great." She put the device on my stomach and looked at the screen. She or he grew a lot in the past couple weeks. "So, is there any gender you're hoping for?"
"She's hoping for a girl, but she's fine with either or," Grayson said. "And I don't really have a preference."
"Well, that's good news," she said. "Because as you can see right here..." She pointed to the screen and it was quite obvious what the gender was.
And I was extremely happy.
"Holy crap," Grayson said. "It's a boy."
"It is," Dr. Raymond said, with a smile.
I didn't care that it wasn't a girl, even though I did see myself dressing up a little girl in cute little outfits. Having a son was amazing, especially because Grayson looked ecstatic.
"We're --we're having a boy, Poppy," Grayson said. "You fine with that?"
"Are you kidding me?" I asked. "Of course I am. I told you, even though I wanted a girl, I would be fine if it was a boy. And now, I'm more than fine."
"Well, you should be glad to hear that your baby boy is still healthy," Dr. Raymond said. "Healthy heartbeat and he's growing perfectly fine. Would you like another picture of the ultrasound?" I nodded, so she printed the screenshot before handing it to me. "Now, we're done for this ultrasound. Seeing as he's still a healthy boy, you won't need another ultrasound unless you're starting to feel complications. If you do, talk to your doctor and she'll schedule another one for you."
I gave her a smiled and thanked her before Grayson helped me up. Dr. Raymond led us out the door, bidding goodbye before we began walking towards the exit.
That was until we saw someone we did not expect seeing.
And he didn't seem to expect to see us as well.
Gary Prince, also known as Grayson's father whom he hadn't seen in over a year.
Grayson and Gary just stared at each other, both looking shocked, though Grayson was more mad than shocked. Neither of them said anything before Grayson gently grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the hospital.
Things were not going to go well if Gary ever found out why we were there.
