Chapter 108 Magic Wand
Rage starts silently. It is like water in a pot. You will let it simmer, then boil, THEN BAM! IT EXPLODES! I honestly hope I would not see an enraged Elliot.
"Elliot," I told him as we both rush towards his truck. 'Babe, calm down."
We both left the Chinese restaurant with unfinished food -shame, I know. If my own conscience is not knocking on my guilt enough, then the look of the Chinese man who owns the restaurant did.
I mean, ordering burger and fries in a Chinese restaurant probably did enough damage, but leaving with unfinished meal? Oof.
"I can't believe they got married," He grumbles angrily as he harshly yanks his door open. "She's nineteen! She does not know what she is doing."
I immediately climb on the truck and shut the door close. I put on my seatbelt and silently watch him turn the engine on in a hurry. I pursed my lips and placed my hand on his lap to comfort him.
"They have not even graduated from university yet," Elliot spat the words out of spite. 'And now she is telling me that she married Jay?" He scoffed angrily. 'Unbelievable."
It took all of my restraint to no roll my eyes because I know that he actually does not care about the whole ‘she has not even graduated college yet'. He is just throwing out reasons to why my brother and his sister should not be married.
Deep down, I bet he is just angry because he was not in the ceremony. Or that he was not informed. Or, because he did not get the chance to the typical cliché overly protective brothers do which is to threaten the life out of my brother.
A few moments later after he stopped grumbling, I squeezed his thigh and asked. "Where are they?"
His jaw clenched angrily and answered me through gritted teeth. "Vegas."
Oh, marshmallows no! Once my mom or Chloe, their mom, hear about this, they will be with Elliot throwing tantrums too. Riley is Chloe's only daughter, after all. And my mom is extremely close with Chloe.
Oof. There are going to be three hulks.
Oh wait, no. I should throw my dad and Reed, their dad, in too. Yeah, and the eldest of the Langston offspring, Charlie.
So… six. Six hulks.
I licked my dry lips and fixed my hair with my other hand. "Are they planning to return home anytime soon?"
"Yeah," He grunts. 'She said somewhere around next week." He then snorts. 'I bet they were not planning to tell anyone until the day they die." He stretched his neck till I heard a light pop. 'I can not believe they were planning to tell everyone that they got married on their funeral."
I held in a chuckle and took his right hand that was resting in between us. I gave it a tight squeeze, hoping that it will calm him down. "Do you want me to call Charlie?"
Charlie is Elliot's eldest brother. He IS currently married to his childhood best friend, Vanchel, and they have a daughter together, Cavorelle. She is an adorable five years old. (A/N: I suggest for you guys to check out the book too in my profile)
He grunts with a nod.
I really wanted to laugh because all the grunting and the frowning makes him look older than he really is. So adorable. He is like a soft and cuddly teddy bear.
I grab my phone and called his eldest brother. After a few rings, he picked it up, "HELLO?!"
Uh, no need to yell bro. I blinked. "Hello?"
"WHAT?" He asks, then laughs hysterically for a good two seconds, before clearing his throat, "Hello, Cobie?"
I blinked again and asked, "Is now a good time to talk?" Because it seems like I called him at a wrong time.
"Yeah yeah," he said, "Cavorelle, no tickling tickling the giggling monster when he's on the phone!"
Aww. Just like his brother, they are adorable teddy bears.
After a few moments, he cleared his throat again and asked. "Hey Cobe," I heard him sigh. 'I apologize for all the ruckus. Cavorelle is getting restless which means I am also getting rest less."
I held in a laugh. 'Where is Vanchel?"
'She is cooking right now." I can hear his smile because really, Charlie Langston always smile. 'Vanch! Cobe is on the phone!"
'HI COBIE!" I heard his wife's shrill. 'We hear you are in town, want to catch up before you leave?"
'Uh," I smiled a little. 'I am actually staying."
'OH MY! YOU MOVED BACK?" Her voice sounds louder, so I take that she left whatever she was doing in the kitchen and walked closer to where Charlie was. Or the other way around. I do not know. 'THAT'S AMAZING HUN!" I heard her gasp. 'Is that the reason why you are with Elliot again?"
I felt a blush crawling to my cheeks. 'You know about that?"
'Of course I do!" She giggled. 'Denovan is not that big."
Yeah. Of course. 'Who told you?" I asked her while eyeing my boyfriend who is still fuming in the driver's seat.
She giggled again. 'A little birdie told me."
I rolled my eyes with a light scoff. 'Is the little birdie a man who is also the brother of your man?"
'What?!" She gasped. 'Are you talking about Elliot?"
'Who else?"
'Oh no, no." She chuckled. 'I promise. It is not your boyfriend."
Vanchel always keep her word. Always. So I doubt that she is lying right now. But if it did not come from Elliot, then who? 'Who told you, Vanch?"
She sighs. 'I told you, a little birdie."
'A little birdie?" I asked her as I face the window and watch as we pass by the road lights. 'Care to elaborate?" And be specific?
'Yeah, a little blue bird." She giggled. 'A tiny one."
A blue bird? 'Is this some kind of metaphor, Vanch?"
'What?" She scoffs. 'No…" A giggle burst from her. 'It really is a blue tiny bird."
'Just tell me who it is."
'Tweeter!"
What? 'What?" I asked. 'Tweeter?"
'Mmhm," She laughs. 'Are you not followed to the Official Denovan Tweeter account?"
'You have tweeter?"
'Of course." She sighs. 'I am a mom now, Cobe. I have to learn about the latest deets to remain cool for my kiddo."
Deets? Details? I cringed.
Chuckling, I shook my head. 'Please tell me you are kidding."
'Okay, I was just kidding." I heard her laugh. 'I am not doing the whole deets thing, but I did see the news about you and El."
'What?" I asked her. 'Who posted it?"
'Mr. Lang," She replied nonchalantly. 'You know, the owner of the Chinese restaurant downtown? He posted a picture of you and Elliot eating burgers and fries."
'AND COKE!" I heard Charlie filled in.
'Yes, and coke." She laughed. 'The caption was Dishonor! Dishonor on your whole family. Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!"
'Did he just quote Mooshu from Mulan?" I quired a brow.
'YES, HE DID!" I heard Charlie screamed.
I just love how the old man who owns the restaurant had sense of humor. Love it.
'Well, I have to go." I heard Vanch pout. 'I need to do some motherly stuff. But do visit us, okay? Do not be a stranger!"
'Of course." I snapped back to reality and felt my heart drop because I was supposed to be delivering bad news. 'See you when I see you!"
'Yes Cobe!" Her voice lowered, so I take that she is getting farther because she is going back to the kitchen. 'Welcome back!"
A few seconds later, Charlie is back to the phone. 'So, what is up?"
"Uh," I paused while covering the mic of my phone with my shoulder, "Elliot, do you want to break it to him?"
He grunts a no.
I inhaled deeply before putting the phone back to my ears, "Hey Charlie, uh..." I gulped, "Riley's married."
"Hello? Cobie? Sorry, I thought I heard you say my little sister's married." He laughs, "I would've beat Jay up with my magic wand." Have I mentioned that he used to work as a fairy in his wife's daycare center?
Uh...
"Prepare your wand." I joked light-heartedly.
I knew what I said was a mistake because, after a few seconds, he hang up on me.
I cleared my throat and ended the call when I heard the beep.
"How did he take it?" Elliot asks with a scowl.
"I think..." I blew out a breath I was holding in, "I think we will be seeing Charlie in a fairy suit again."
The edge of his lips quirked up.
