Outbreak of War
Jaxon's POV
The night was not as expected; everywhere was unusually quiet, and a cold wind from the forest came blowing into the camp. On the balcony, I stood watching and lost in thoughts as I beheld the beauty of the whole Silver Moon Pack's space from my chamber.
Everything had not been moving well lately, starting from the arranged marriage with Seraphina rather than a forced marriage. The marriage that was supposed to bring peace and progress, was sowing seeds of distrust all over the whole pack, and to worsen the situation, the news of Darius Nightshade's return came flying up and down.
The thought of it alone increased my anger level; I clenched my fists as I remembered everything that happened. How foolish of me to have rejected my fated mate, Liora, just to be with the one that is everything that I don't want in my woman. I left everything in pursuit of alliances and power, making decisions based on what I would gain immediately. Unfortunately, my rash decisions were now haunting me, coming after all that I had built. Seraphina had always placed power and influence above family values, making her not trustworthy.
The sound of approaching footsteps snapped me out of my thoughts in a blink, and on turning, I saw one of my trusted Betaes, Ambser, running in my direction. He was sweating profusely in panic as he raced to my chamber.
'Alpha, Alpha, we're under a serious attack right now!"
My heart sank on hearing that. 'What do you mean? By whom, which pack is responsible?"
'They seem to be members of Night Howlers, Alpha. They've succeeded in breaching our borders!"
As I was still trying to process the information, a howl came vibrating very loudly all through the night. Growls were heard from every corner of the pack, and clashes of claws. The battle had already started in earnest.
I quickly grabbed my sword and rushed out of the room, and without wasting any time, Amber followed suit. As we made our way downstairs, the howling sounds kept increasing, clashes of swords even more.
On getting to the courtyard, I noticed my warriors already trying to salvage the situation as they engaged furiously in combat. Wolf warriors from the attacking pack, the Night Howlers pack, crowded almost half of the Silver Moon Pack and broke through our defenses with ease.
'Do your best to defend the pack!" I roared in command, as I depended on my soldiers to rescue the Silver Moon Pack from danger.
But it was obvious we couldn't fight back with equal energy as they had attacked us unawares, taking us by surprise. My warriors are well-trained men; they have always represented the pack in battles, but this one came out strong, a hard nut to crack, thereby disorienting all their efforts. None of them was coordinated as usual. Darius Nightshade must be part of this plan, and the elder enemy sold us out in our vulnerability.
I charged angrily into the battlefield; I fought with anger as I slew everything that came in my direction. I can't allow any of these warriors to go out of this place unharmed, especially Alpha Rhys, who promised me an alliance but turned around to fight us instead. The Night Howlers came in their numbers. Their warriors were fierce and outnumbered those of my pack, the Silver Moon Pack. As I paused to observe the battle, I noticed something: t: the battle had been to our advantage, and the terroris were badly wounded. I realized that if nothing was done immediately, my pack might be cleared off.
As the battle intensified, I continued fighting with all my might to defend my pack. Suddenly, I saw a familiar figure, Darius. He was grinning from ear to ear as he observed the battle from the hilltop.
His eyes kept glowing with malice as he watched his pack be destroyed. 'You'll not go free, Darius!" I challenged him as I charged in his direction.
But before I could cross the battlefield in the direction of Darius, something usual and unexpected happened. A normal movement leaped onto the battlefield in a flash, causing me to halt my attack on Darius. The speed that the figure used in leaping onto the field was incredible. At first, I was checking to know when our warrior got such speed and incredible movement. "Did the person train in secret without my knowledge," I asked myself, only to see the face, a beautiful face that I had been dying just to behold.
It was not another but Liora.
I watched in awe as she moved with grace and precision; she never missed her strikes, as they were swift but deadly. I was shocked seeing her once-innocent eyes looking so fierce but determined to wipe off the Night Howlers. She wasn't the person I knew before, she had changed positively, grown beyond imagination, now stronger, wiser, not to talk of the power in her possession. As she moved that moment, fighting off Night Howlers from attacking the Silver Moon Pack, I realized how foolish I had been, underestimating her even before giving her any chance to defend herself.
'Lio... Liora," I managed to stammer in a whisper, unable to pretend, as shock was evident on my face.
Her presence on the battlefield did something incredible in shifting the tide of the battle. The Night Howlers, once confident in both themselves and their skills, suddenly developed cold feet, unable to face the force attacking them in our favor.
Liora's presence on the battlefield brought so much confidence and renewed strength to the Silver Moon pack warriors who had lost hope and strength. They suddenly charged against the Night Howlers in anger, even though their number was nothing compared to that of the Night Howlers.
Liora was, of course, nothing like the weak Omega I had underestimated and rejected in foolishness. She came out renewed into something far more than everyone's expectations, something extraordinary since the creation of the world.
I made my way towards her direction, but not without slicing through enemies as I went. When I finally made it to the spot where the incredible woman I had lost in foolishness stood, I stood speechless, forgetting all that I had in mind to speak to her about. She faced me and gave a beautiful and charming smile. I had seen her smile before, but not as beautiful as this one. It made my heart skip a beat, and I was lost in her world, but not ready to be found.
'Liora!" "What an agent we have here! I am speechless about what to say to you."
Her expression softened, and she placed a hand on my lips, romantically shutting me up, not giving me the chance to apologize. 'There's deftime to go through that lane, Jaxon. All we need now is to focus entirely on stopping this attack from invading the inner camp. Silver Moon Pack peace mustn't be interrupted."
I simply nodded, still amazed at how she came to our rescue after everything we did to her, how she pushed everything behind her and followed the path of redemption and peace. Will I ever forgive myself for how I treated her in the past? I destroyed my chances of making her my Luna.
But as she rightly said, there is no time to apportion blame, dwell in the past, and hinder the future from manifesting. The battle continued fiercely, raging on against the Night Howlers, as their strength seemed to be dwindling. I fought side by side with beautiful Liora, drawing more strength from her presence.
Liora was destined to be by my side in everything, even on battlefields, but I had assessed my chances. She was a natural force, dutifully defending her pack, the one that had rejected her, thrown her into the arms of the wicked ones to be devoid, but here she was defending them.
It got to the point that I couldn't concentrate again; I was constantly glancing at her, admiring her beauty, her spirit, and her strength. How can one person be in such a capacity? The changes in her, which occurred in months, wouldn't have occurred if she hadn't put in all her best. Her skill preceded her, as she continued to strike with precision and accuracy, not missing a strike.
'Liora… you are looking more beautiful than I can remember…" I stammered as I tried to find the right words to use.
She took a glance at me and smiled. 'I would appreciate it if you channeled all your focus on the fight, Jaxon. There will be time for that later, please," she had said, still smiling.
I couldn't help but wish for the battle to end so that I could have her all to myself. How can someone be so cute in the midst of chaos? Even on the heated battlefield, her beauty was still radiating nonstop.
With that, I increased my speed in the battle; I needed to end the battle fast and have all the time to stay with Liora. Liora watched amazed at the sudden burst in energy, but I smiled at her instead. I needed to send the Night Howlers far away from my pack, and that's if any of them were remaining.
But as I continued to fight, rejoicing that the battle had shifted tides to our favor, the air around the battlefield suddenly changed. There was a wave of dark energy that surged in, something that had happened only decades ago. I immediately knew where that was coming from and the purpose of coming to the battlefield. We must win this battle.
