Jaxon's POV
'Kelsey, if I ever complain of getting tired, simply remind me of what I would be losing at the end. Liora would go to another man." I said to him knowing that he wouldn't stay without pushing me.
Kelsey, who had unwillingly followed me like a faithful and loyal shadow, glanced around the library room with widened eyes. 'I never imagined we had a library talk more of one this big, Alpha. Looks like we have a lot of history stuffed here, so getting them would be a lot of work."
'History, yeah," I replied. 'And hopefully, one of those histories would provide us with the needed solution."
Without wasting time, I delved into the business that brought me into the library which was to get ideas that would help me woo Liora back. I pulled out an ancient book bearing a catchy title "Legends of the Queen of Wolves", and I flipped through old but rich pages. As I skimmed the pages with fainted inks, I saw stories narrating the journey of powerful women, women who were great warriors who led battles, queens who did marvelous work in ruling over packs. These women all point out attributes seen in Liora—strong, independent, but fierce. And as I continued going through it, I came across another page where notes were penned down. Notes of how to properly woo them, and also court them. It suggests the ways their hearts can be captured easily.
One particular page caught my attention, it has a message that read:
'A wolf queen, who has fought battles and defeated her pack, cannot be wooed by simple gifts, as it doesn't move her. The only gift which seems attractive to her is only offerings of purpose. Owing that she had fought battles, a sword, which is a symbol of battle would signify that the giver appreciates her and her purpose in the pack. Shield, on the other hand,d signifies protection; it connotes caring for her and her wellbeing. Warriors fight to protect their people and should be cherished. Gifting them these gifts is a symbol of valuing their worth in the pack."
A shield, yes, a shield. I grinned like a child. Maybe Kelsey wasn't totally useless as I thought. His practical suggestions could pay off if I follow this guide.
I grabbed yet another interesting book, this one covering another topic. It was about ancient customs and traditions of the werewolf race, from generations passed down to generations. I saw where different gifts exchanged between fated mates were listed: a well-handcrafted dagger, a beautiful pendant, uniquely crafted from the bones of a defeated enemy, making it a rare gift to find. There was also an armor which its craftsmanship was tailored to fit perfectly, representing function and affection.
Each of these gifts had a way of conveying the message of the giver to the heart of a warrior receiving it. They weren't just any type of gifts with symbols; they were war tools, produced to give more meaning to the life of the one receiving them. They were personal, and the message itself conveyed intimate purposes. And judging from the information I was getting from the books I have read, this is all I would need to woo Liora.
'Alpha," Kelsey said, prying into what I was doing. 'That particular one there looks enticing, it might be the magic you need for this mission."
He gestured to an entry lying lazily on the shelf in an old, leather-bound book. It was a passage narrating how using the practice of crafting a special necklace, something that contains a protective charm was to the ladies. The necklace wasn't just for fancy; symbols of the pack, not forgetting the symbol representing love and loyalty would be inscribed on it.
Each of the symbols sends a special bond to the mates involved. It was another time to live freely in.
I nodded in agreement. 'You're not far from the truth. This could do the magic. Liora deserves more than these queens got in their time, something that symbolizes both my feelings and the bond formed on the night of the moon ceremony by the moon goddess."
I spent more hours in the library, toiling in between pages of books to comb out something decent and unique. I made sure to pen down most of my discoveries, taking notes of every important detail needed. I picked every tradition, every gift that Liora could fancy. A dagger, a crafted love pendant, and just as I was about to leave, on the wall near the exit was a banner that suggested something that resonated well with me: a camping trip that involves planting trees together. It signifies growth, an unbreakable bond, deeply rooted and aiming higher every day.
I sat back, amazed at my discoveries and overwhelmed by the possibility that it could be the one solution I needed to get all I wanted. I couldn't settle for giving Liora just one gift; I needed to outdo Rhys to add more to the list. I made up my mind to search for all the gifts. This way, each of the gifts would show different sides of my feelings.
Kelsey stood frozen, amused at my ever-growing list of ideas. 'Alpha, hope you don't have plans to do everything on that list?"
I nodded confirming his fears. 'I have to do them; at least I won't live in regrets of not putting in the effort as was needed. If Rhys thinks gifting her something as small as a sword is enough to win her over, then he is in for a big shock. I am ready to succeed in this mission.
Kelsey gave me the look of someone impressed, though skeptical that I would get tired in the process. 'That's a lot of hard work you've got there, Alpha."
I chuckled at his expression, he wouldn't understand until he was in my shoes. 'She's worth it more than the effort"
Now, planning alone won't give me the results I desired; action was needed.
I looked and I saw another book on intention. Then and there, my intentions for doing them changed. It was true that I planned on outdoing Rhys, to show off that I was a better option, but not anymore. His actions might have fueled my zeal, but dwelling in it would be deception.
I gathered the materials my hands could lay on, and with the help of Kelsey, I set out to execute my perfect plans. It was my time to shine!
Kelsey's POV
Ah, the stress of being the Alpha's trusted right-hand man. Sure, I was learning, ranging from business meetings, making delicate decisions that could be a matter of life or death, and the difficult task of protecting-the-pack things and placing your desires second.
The fun part of my work came when the Alpha was making a fool of himself because of his feelings for Liora. He watched every fun scene of it, he tripped head over heels for her. I had unwillingly followed him to the library, tired that he had to drag me into his love matters.
In the woods, we watched like criminals as Rhys conversed with Liira on a friendly note. I could have objected to staying back, but I wanted to encounter the heated confrontation between the two lovers, Alpha, but none of that happened. Today, we are here, paying homage to the library of all places. Solutions on how to woo his love were the only ones he wanted; he was giving it his best. Alpha Jaxon wasn't the type of Aoha to bury himself in books, but he was doing just that now.
After a long day at the library, an interesting idea struck me. What don't I spicy up Alpha Jaxon's efforts with a grand performance? Since Jaxon was nothing close to being romantic, I decided to help out and make it a full-blown romance saga. I could insert myself in the middle, not to frustrate his efforts but to make it a bit of fun. The most interesting part of it would be my opportunity to draw from the endless well of gifts and, at the same time, help Jaxon to achieve his plans.
Before I knew it, I found myself sneaking out to meet Liora's chambers. Liora was my favorite werewolf lady, a lady I respect so well. Her company would be interesting these few days, and I would be willing to serve her.
As the greatest warrior in our pack, it would be unusual to find her resting at the hour of the day. I had gone to her quarters but met her absence, and I knew at once that she would be at no other place but the training ground.
I made my way to the training ground, and by this time, the last sun of the day just fated. I was able to get to the venue through the dim light of the moon. When I arrived, she was nothing close to closing for the day. She was sharpening one of her swords, and once raising her head, she saw me approaching.
I hated that I would be distracting her for some moment, but it was necessary.
"Kelsey? What brought you to the training ground at this hour?" she asked politely but raised an eyebrow, clearly curious about my mission.
I grinned at how I was able to pull my first surprise. I raised my hands dramatically, signaling that I had come in peace. "I would love to have a friendly chat with you, please." I had requested it. " It would be a win-win situation; she would be grateful that I came visiting. I brought with me insider information that concerns you." I tried convincing her.
Her ears flew open on hearing what I said. But she didn't stop sharpening her tools. "Insider information, what do you mean by that? How does it concern me?"
"First, I want you to see my visit as a secret one, I am your secret agent on important matters. And, of course, my visit had everything to do with Alpha Jaxon. The great Alpha of Silver Moon Pack is working tirelessly on a grand project to win your humble heart. It involves the gestures of sending gifts, not ordinary gifts but ancient gifts with the inspiration from the library on how great queens were wooed by their mates."
She halted her work; her attention focused on me now. "What exactly do the gifts look like? Do you have any idea of what they are?"
