Chapter 18
The wise elder nodded while studying my reaction. "A prophecy occurred long ago, and it was about an Omega, rejected and humiliated by her pack and thrown out in her darkest moment. The Omega would rise beyond everyone's expectations and become the pillar of the pack, she would save the pack in its darkest hour. She was said would possess something very rare, very unique, the ancient power of healing, which comes by if only gifted by the spirits of the old wolves, the spirit that once roamed these lands."
I swallowed an invisible lump formed in my throat, and my head filled with his words. "That... that's not possible; it can't be me," I challenged him in disbelief. "I'm nobody; I'm not from a good background. I'm just an ordinary..."
"You are way more than all you've imagined yourself to be, Liora," the wise elder interrupted me firmly but calmly. "The power kept stirring up inside you is not ordinary, it didn't come by coincidence either. It is ancient and was passed down to you because of your pure heart from the ancestors of the Silver Moon Pack. It helps you operate in different capacities; right now, you can heal, but not all that; you will also restore what was once broken. But it didn't come for free; it has many things attached to it, which is a great responsibility for you."
I just stood there staring at him, with my heart pounding. Could all these be true? How possible is it that I am the wolf that was spoken of in the prophecy? And if this happens to be true, how will it change my life, how will it transform me, and for the pack, how can I use it to their benefit?
Jaxon immediately drew closer to me, gazing steadily at me, his eyes searched mine for answers, answers hidden deep inside. "Liora," he called me softly; from his voice, you could deduce that he was concerned and, at the same time, in wonder at how fast everything was happening. "Whatever this is, whatever it brings along with it, just know that I am with you, and it's incredible; you are the chosen one. You're using your power to save lives."
While still in shock. "The truth is, I don't know how I'm able to heal with it, Jaxon. I don't know the exact purpose of this power, neither do I know its source."
The elder chuckles gently. "You will learn everything about your new power, but only with time. But for now, your attention is needed, and it's your pack, your help is needed. The pack needs your strength from months of constant practice, your courage that you have nurtured over the years, and your gift bestowed on you by the ancient."
The whole scene was overwhelming, and taking a deep breath, I realized that I was shaking uncontrollably. My hands were trembling as I attended from one wolf to the other, and still in awe as they healed as I touched them. One of the wolves melted my heart with his gratitude. He opened his eyes, and his heart flushed at the sight of his healing wound. He whispered words of gratitude to me. "Thank you, Liora."
Tears crowded my eyes, but I forced them back to their source; I simply nodded as I moved to attend to the next wolf. Indeed, I have yet to understand the power and how it operates, but I am certain of one thing: I will continue to utilize this power to heal the wounded wolves whether I understand it or not. I can't allow any of them to suffer again while I am around.
A few hours passed, and I continued to heal the wounded wolves compassionately, healing as many as I could. I was already exhausted to my bones as I healed all the wolves. Jaxon was a helping help during the process; he stayed by my side throughout the healing process, ensuring to lend a helping hand when needed.
Not long after, I finally finished, but this time, the battlefield was quieter. The amazing was how the wounded wolves were now resting peacefully, their bodies adapting and accepting the healing process introduced to it. But even as I was already adjusting to the new development, the words of the elder kept echoing in my head, crowding all my thoughts.
He mentioned the prophecy.
And that it's connected to an ancient power of healing.
Who am I, exactly?
And what role exactly would this power allow me to play in the future of the Silver Moon Pack?
Whatever my new power would allow me to do in the future, I am sure of one thing, which is that I am no longer the rejected Omega, the weak Omega, not even an ordinary Omega anymore.
I have become something beyond the normal, more than my imagination.
Not quite long, I noticed another strange thing, I noticed that the glow was now looking natural, blending in to become part of me. The warmth emanating from my palms no longer scared me; it felt more like a part of me that was hidden, something that was hindered by the environment from manifesting.
'Does the glow hurt you in any way?" Jaxon suddenly asked from the blues, his eyes focused on me as he awaited my answer.
I smiled at the thought and finally shook my head. 'No, not at all. I agree that the feeling is strange, but that doesn't mean it would hurt. It has the feeling of giving out something, but not losing anything in return."
He furrowed his eyes slightly but still watched my hands. 'And it's not draining your energy from you right?"
'I'm very fine, Alpha," I said softly. 'I think this is a new calling, something that I'm destined to do."
Jaxon's smile softened. 'I have been thinking in that direction too."
The wise elder wolf interrupted our conversation by clearing his throat and getting our attention back to himself. 'There's more that you need to know, more to the prophecy, Liora."
I hairs stood at attention immediately, tensed at the mention of more tasks. 'More, what do you mean by more?"
He nodded gravely. 'Unfortunately, the prophecy did not only speak of the power given to you to heal and mend broken pieces; it also involves great trial that will test you to weaken your resolve. It exposed the darkness that will come, it aims to destroy, and its focus is on everything you hold dear to you."
I shivered on hearing darkness. 'Darkness, what kind of darkness are you talking about?"
The elder continued in a whisper. 'I have no idea of what it will be. But all you must do is get prepared because anything can happen, Liora. Your gift is not ordinary; it is very powerful, but be rest assured that it will also attract enemies, and they will come in different forms: those who would seek to use it to destroy others and those who would seek to use it to fight you."
Jaxon gripped my hands tightly. 'Be rest assured that you won't face whatever will come out of it alone; I will be there with you all the way."
I watched the two of them as they tried to comfort me to be strong and let the darkness weary me. A part of my old self desired to run away, desiring to be far away from such power and the responsibilities that come along with it. Fortunately, another part, which is the new me, the trained part of me that perseveres, is stronger, and the braver part knows that I will always face whatever challenges come my way rather than running away.
'And making up my mind, I decided to do the latter, to focus on getting out the best of me; I'll sacrifice whatever it takes to protect Silver Moon Pack," I told myself quietly in confidence.
The elder gave out a knowing smile, it was like I was loud enough for him to hear me. He applauded my bravery once more with the softness in his eyes. 'Good, then. You have a good heart, a soft heart that accommodates everyone, and a heart that befits a true healer, Liora. Never let that disappear from your memory."
As he concluded his business on the battlefield and made his way out of the battlefield, Jaxon swiftly, without giving me any warning, pulled me into a warm embrace, and I was happy he did because my body needed that. 'I'm super proud of you, of the reckoning force you have become within a short period," he murmured while effortlessly patting my hair. 'Don't forget to always call me when you need my help, anything at all; I will be here to help out. It is our fight, we'll overcome it together."
I allowed myself to enjoy the moment as I closed my eyesd and tired of thinking before I acted, I leaned into him and appreciated his efforts to calm me down. 'Thank you so much, Jaxon. I appreciate your efforts at calming down my nerves."
'You don't need to thank me, you have selflessly done more than enough for the whole pack, and I will put in my little efforts to see that you succeed." He replied, and I observed something strange in his eyes, a concern or something else.
As I was wrapped in his warm embrace, I felt at peace, I felt support, not minding the trial awaiting me ahead. And for the first time in my entire life, I felt relevant in my pack, and commanding power in her pack.
