Morgath's POV
Right in the dimly lit hut, shadows were seen everywhere but not clearly. By one corner of the hut, flames burnt with great intensity. Maybe because I had made a great mistake. Maybe because I had not filled them up the right way. I relaxed way too much, gave them breathing space instead of suffocating them with my power as was the initial plan. The frustration was much, the regret was unbearable, but something must be done, and done so fast to avoid more damages. How did I miss my only opportunity for vergence?
I paced restlessly inside the hut. I won't rest until I have fixed the damages, I can't leave them to win. No, they will never have the upper hand over me. From where I stood, I could hear the sound of the celebration. They have been doing that for two nights now, not resting but feasting daily. This was all my fault, I gave them the opportunity, but I would fix it back.
"Those fools," I muttered clenching my fist angrily. "I should have done better, I shouldn't have relaxed. I let them leave too long to harbor the thought of visiting the Valley of Shadows, and even when they did, I should have waited for them, ambushed them and eliminated every trace of them, but I did none of that. They shouldn't have touched the artifacts, talk more of using it to heal the pack.
I hit my fist on the table in front of me. It wasn't just a table, it was carved out from a stone, and on hitting my hand on it, blood gushed out from my knuckles, threatening to remove all the fillanges. Right in the hurt, my trainees all packed at a corner of the hut, they knew better than to talk. They were supposed to relay the right information to me, but they failed woefully at such a small task.
"Who would believe that I could be so careless?" I hissed. "I knew everything about the legends, the stories associated with these ancient relics, and yet, in my foolishness, I had dismissed them, and done so carelessly as mere folklore. I have longed to have artifacts for years, as it would aid my work, and fasten my revenge, but I could not lay my hands on it, because the spirit of the fallen would forbid me to do so. It was only those with pure hearts that could cross the Valley of Shadows and get them. But I would have ambushed them, and gotten the artifacts."
The bitterness could not allow me to concentrate, the heaviness in my chest was enough to choke me. Liora, the Omega of yesterday, a weakling, a subordinate by birth, amounting to nothing, is now in possession of unimaginable power. Something that I have craved for, toiled day and night to get, but she got it without blinking twice.
The artifacts in their possession are now their source of strength, they have been fortified against my dark magic. My dark powers will no longer have any effect on them. Jaxon, the Alpha of Silver Moon Pack, who had rejected her before is now her mate. With the two of them joined as mates, and their journey to the temple sealing their bond, they would withstand everything I sent on their way. If nothing is done on time, they would become invincible, nothing would ever affect them again.
It would be a shame for me to sit back and allow them to win me. I would do anything just to reclaim my lost glory.
I turned to the head of the spy that I had set up. He never said anything as I barked in frustration, only leaning and watching me, but waiting for another command that he won't carry out effectively. "Speak immediately," I snapped at him coldly. "Tell me something, be useful to me for once."
The spy stepped out to meet me but with caution, his hands trembling as he approached, and his head bent in submission. "Master Morgath, the new power which was obtained recently and which surrounds Silver Moon, it's stronger unlike the powers we've encountered in our journey to destroy them. Our strongest warriors, those you fortified with the special dark energy could feel it. It's more like they're surrounded by an unbreakable barrier, something we can't breach or access no matter what."
I glared at him, and was ready to send him down with my eyes. "Do you think I am as dumb as you are not to know something as important as that like you?" I growled at him. "Do you think I am powerless not to feel the strong power those artifacts have been emanating ever since they brought them back? You can't mock the one incharge of dark powers. The moon goddess would have made them stronger, fortified their strongholds, but there must be something that would bring them down, something that would cause their downfall."
The spy flinched just by mare looking at my furious eyes. But he still didn't keep quiet, but his voice showed he was scared. "But, Master…what about we reconsider the approaches that we use? The power that those artifacts carry are not ordinary, the bond they got from visiting the temple can't be broken anyhow, we shouldn't take it as a light something."
I laughed out loud, but bitterly, what a way to mock a master at his craft. "Reconsideration?" I repeated. "I don't operate with such principles, and would never have time for that. I'm done playing safe. This is the time to pull down strongholds and tear down their territory. And the good thing would be, they had labored to get the artifacts for me, I would be the one incharge of the pack. I would make it my territory as I rule over the whole werewolf kingdom."
"What message does the sorceress have for us? Did she see anything that we were unable to see?" I asked, as I turned my attention to yet another of my loyal followers, one who pledged loyalty in exchange for shelter. She was running away from a dark force from her pack, but would go back to confront them after gathering enough power to withstand theirs. The sorceress was a dark-eyed woman specially skilled in divination. "I've waited, but nothing came, long enough to have done something meaningful, but still, her visions didn't come to lead me. What should be the solution to this problem now?"
The sorceress paused, facing the northern part of the hut, before talking, but her voice was uncertain. "The visions… the very ones I am seeing, they are all unclear, Master. I saw their well organized paths, the obstacles from different places they would face, but nothing was said about their victory. Nothing showed them succeeding. The artifacts from the temple of the moon, all of them chose them, Morgath. They are clearly beyond our reach right now."
"Chosen you said?" I spat. "I know that they were clearly chosen by the Moon Goddess, she had ordained them. But don't forget that power can be fleeting. Something can undo what has been done, especially when they disobey its rule."
I growled in anger, this isn't happening to me. "I will find a way, something must be done to break their pathetic bond. I won't destroy the artifacts, but I will make sure their efforts are defeated. They would all crumble under my feet. No one dares challenge me and go free without facing the consequences."
I turned to consult my power, to guide me on the next step to take, but everything was blank. There was no revelation to guide my next move, I would be moving blindly, but till when?
"I needed something to work with, more information," I murmured, but to myself, frustration evident in my words. "I need a link to their weakness, to their vulnerable state. There's no way they would be perfect, not even the moon goddess is perfect. If I can get a trace of such weakness, then I can erase them from the surface of the earth."
The sorceress out of curiosity stepped forward, but she was careful with her words so as not to get me more angry. "But, this would be mission impossible, how do we do everything, Master? How do we gather enough force to break off a bond that even the goddess forged?"
I smiled, this was my specialty, a cruel, dark grin registered on my face. "The Moon Goddess only gave them those blessings because they followed her directions, if by any chance they deviated, she would waste no time in destroying them or turning her back against them for their enemies to devour. I understand everything about power, more than any creature in existence. And once we are able to get them to disobey the moon goddess, they would be vulnerable to any dark force again."
I would make them pay dearly for double crossing me. They would be thinking that it's over, that isn't true. The battle is just starting.
>>>>>>>>>>
The cold wind blew aggressively on the crumbling walls of my hut. But even at that, I cared less or paid attention to such power, and had made the mistake of leaving them to win before, but not anymore. I would make sure Jaxon and Liora fell at my feet.
But I know better than to think I can do it alone. I needed allies, connections, those who understood what power is all about. That's how I decided to involve Darius, Isolde, and most importantly, the three sorcerers who are located in the northern territories. Together, we would be unbeatable, a great alliance that would crush Jaxon and his pack once and for all without leaving any trace.
Darius' Arrival
Darius entered my hut, he wore the same cold determination he had when I started working with him. This might have been the reason for his exile, but that wasn't the problem now. He has proven himself to be a ruthless warrior, coupled by his drive to revenge against the Silver Moon Pack. He had thousands of reasons for despising Jaxon, for being sent out of his pack, and his family. But that hatred would be the fuel we need to strive more.
"I hope things will be different this time? We have the chance of succeeding, Morgath, right?" Darius asked, his voice filled with bitterness, maybe from years of isolation. His dark eyes are evident of dark resentment. "I've waited, craved for an opportunity to torture them back, something like this to pay them back."
"You've finally gotten your chance," I replied, my eyes carefully observing him. "The Silver Moon Pack has been fortified, made stronger than we could ever imagine, but we're going to destroy them down, ensuring they are all broken down, but into tiny pieces. This time, I assure you of our success. "
Darius stared at me, obviously not convinced enough. "It went better and went well this time. I wouldn't want to waste any more time. sure of this."
"We won't allow wasting time next time," I assured him. "With the power and information on ground, we'll destroy every remnant of them. We have sorcerers that are well to do, the dark magic, and most importantly, the right strategy. This will end everything about them."
Without being told, I knew that this would be the toughest battle ever, I would be needing as many allies as possible, but would possess the same passion for revenge like me, if not, it won't work out.
But the problem was how to make those available be on the same page with me.
