Chapter Forty

We were soon pulling into the carpark for my house, the entire car ride Jacob was trying to reassure me that everything was going to be okay, but I was unsure. We both just heard how Markus is planning something big that has to do with me and Austin, perhaps it would have been better if I didn't know. But I knew what Jacob was saying was right, now I'm working with his team I know that he will protect me and the guys, but I can't help worrying. Markus is a tricky guy, you can neve guess what that man is thinking. We soon pull up at the start of the stairs, I thank Jacob before turning and opening up the door. I couldn't help but close my eyes slightly as the wind whipped through my hair, so much has happened in this short amount of time that I'm struggling to keep up with it all. I was about to close the door, but I pause looking back into the car at Jacob who was sat smiling at me. 'Now we know Markus is dumping Brooke's phone somewhere, it's pretty likely that she's dead right?" I ask still holding onto the car door, even though I asked the question, I think I already knew the answer. He doesn't answer the question and looks away. 'Please Jacob, just be honest with me" I say when I realise that he was trying to protect me and my feelings, this does make him sigh as he turns to look at me. 'It's more than likely we'll be looking for a body" he tells me not fully telling me, but I knew from what he said I was right, I think I had been thinking that but to hear him saying it was a whole different thing. 'I had fun being a mini detective for a while, but I have two guys up there who are going to need feeding around about now, I'll bid you farewell" I smile trying to put up an act so he wouldn't see me get upset, he knew what I was doing but does smile to play along. 'I'll be touch soon, have fun with your two love interests" he shouts as I close the door and back up onto the pavement, this does make me roll my eyes but do send him a wave as he drives out of the car park and away which left me fully alone. I sigh before turning around and walking up the steps, my mind just racing with all the things that I have seen and heard in the past few hours. I know the chances a very slim, but I was hoping Brooke was alive somewhere waiting for us to find her, but I knew how unlikely that was. I wonder when Markus is going to make his presence known, as he said he's planning something big with me and Austin soon. As I reach the apartment door, I hear the guys laughing and joking about something. This does put a smile on my face as I stand there, this meant while I was away, they were able to speak and have started on the right path to be how they were before. Many things can't get back to the way they were, but I'm glad their friendship is the exception. I open up the door and walk in, where they were both sat on one of the sofas. 'I see you guys have kissed and made up" I smile placing my things down on the counter that was sat by the door, this only makes Austin laugh nodding his head towards me. 'Roman can never stay mad at me" he says putting on a weird accent as he went, I just laugh walking over to get a drink from the fridge, it feels like I haven't had a drink in hours! 'Roman can never stay mad at anyone for very long" I say closing the fridge and walking over to sit on the sofa beside theirs, but that was the many things I love about Roman, even when he has all the right to be angry at someone, he just chooses not to. I lay my head back on the sofa feeling very drained, the palms of my hands hurt from the old wood that was digging into my hands when we were hiding from Markus. I was hoping the guys wouldn't notice, Roman would understand but Austin would probably think I was up to no good. 'You were gone for quite a few hours; I was starting to get worried if I'm being honest" Austin says which does make me open my eyes and send him a smile, I knew he probably thought I had come in contact with Markus in some way, which was true not that Markus knew I was there. 'It's good thing Roman and I fixed dinner" he says which does make me look a little confused, I know they didn't cook anything as the kitchen is very clean and that doesn't happen when Roman cooks, which would only mean they must have ordered something. 'Don't tell me you've ordered pizza again" I whine looking at Austin with a faint smile, he just sends me a smirk which alone told me he had indeed ordered pizza. 'People say you are what you eat, sooner or later you're gonna start looking like a pizza!" I exclaim which does make Roman laugh but nod looking over at Austin, who just throws his arms towards me in a don't worry manner. 'I spoke with Roman and after a few hours of me explaining, he also agrees that pizza is somewhat healthy" Austin says with a proud look on his face, this does make me turn my attention to Roman who just smirked right back at me. 'Are you seriously buying the whole pizza is healthy thing?" I ask where he nods his head saying of course, but the door knocks which makes Austin jump up. Once his back was turned Roman shakes his head at me which does make me laugh. 'What's taking so long?!" Roman shouts to Austin who was still stood by the door, I know he doesn't pay with cash which would mean he should be back here. 'Knowing Austin, he's probably flirting with the pizza delivery girl" Roman jokes turning back to me where I have to put on a fake laugh, but once he turns to look at Austin again my face changes remembering what Austin told me. 'What do you mean my cars on fire?!" We hear Austin shouts, this alone makes both Roman and I look at each other before running towards the door. I was out first where I see Austin running down the stairs, the night sky now shades of yellow from fire and smoke. As I turn to look at the car park, I see a huge fire where Austin's car is normally parked. I run down the stairs following Austin, with Roman close behind me. There were a line of people blocking Austin from getting close, where he was just shouting that it was his car that was in fire! When he realised that he wasn't going to get past, he takes a step backwards at a lost for words just staring at the vehicle in front of him. I knew how much he loved his car, this was probably breaking his little heart. Roman takes a closer to me but I had to take a step away, as I look at his face he seems shocked and a little hurt. 'We can't stand too close to each other, I've come to learn that whenever something like this happens, Markus is always involved somehow, it wouldn't surprise me if he standing somewhere watching" I inform Roman who started to look around, he is about to learn how Markus works, or the little parts that I know. I take a look to Roman before walking over to Austin, I hated that I had to act like this in front of him but we had no choice. I take a hold of Austin's arm who does turn to look at me, he had tears in his eyes which did make me send him a little smile and a hug. Roman walks over and stands the other side of Austin, I knew he was holding back how he really felt which was for the best. We all turn to look at the fire in front of us, none of us knowing what to say. 'Something big is about to happen" is all Austin says as he looks towards the car, I gulp slightly knowing every single word he said was true.
