Chapter Sixty

Austin soon spots Markus standing there too, lucky for us he hadn't turn around to look at us yet so we had a few seconds. Now he was in my eye line, I couldn't stop the scared feelings that were running through my body. 'I know you're scared Payton, but trust me you're going to be fine" Austin whispers looking down at me as we walked, I take a deep breath in sending him a smile letting him know I was somewhat fine, even though my heart was going at a million miles an hour. As we get even closer to Markus, you could see from the way in which he was standing, that he was also panicking. We even managed to get right up behind him and he didn't know it, this Markus is one I've never seen before! 'Markus?" Austin says when he still didn't turn around, this does make him jump and finally turn around to look at us standing right behind him. 'You two don't understand how happy I am to see your faces, you won't believe the amount of shit I've had to deal with this morning and it's only 10am!" He exclaims looking between us as he spoke, he didn't have to tell me I already knew. 'Is this all about what you told me yesterday?" Austin asks trying to make it seem like he didn't tell me, at least he's putting on the act that I know nothing. 'Yeah, but the situation has just got ten times worse!" Markus says pacing up and down, his hands on his hips as he went. 'When I left you yesterday, I thought all this would blow over but nah, it's just got worse. When I woke up today, I come to find out the police have taken control of most of my businesses, while I was watching it I saw all the rats that I put in charge talking with police! It's way to risky for me to be sniffing around those places so I sent some men to watch my other businesses, even your department" he says pointing over to Austin, he looks a little taken back at what Markus said. 'You know I'd never double cross you" Austin says trying to stick up for himself, I bet he got a little worried that Markus brought us out here because he thought Austin had been helping police. But I can confirm that he has not been. 'Yeah I know that, but I had to be sure" Markus shrugs like it was nothing, but he isn't understanding what's about to happen with him. 'But I know that fact for definite now, that business is the only one that hasn't been taken down" Markus says which did make me have to look down at the floor shocked, it seems like Jacob has done his job, faster than I thought he would. 'So what are you going to do now?" Austin asks after a second of silence, I think he was also at a lost for words with what's happening to Markus now, the man that everyone thought was untouchable. 'There's only one thing I can do and that's run, before the police have time to catch me" he says which again is what Jacob said he would do, I know we keep saying that no one can guess what Markus is going to do next, but it seems like Jacob can! 'So what, you've called me and Payton here to say your goodbyes or something?" Austin asks sounding to me like he was relieved, I mean he has been saying for so long that he wanted out of this thing with Markus, maybe he thinks this is his way out, in a sense it is! 'Come on man, do you really think I would make a run for it and leave you in the lurch?" Markus asks which I for one wouldn't mind if he did! 'Everyone out there knows that you work for me, I can't count the amount of people I have told about you being my best worker. If the police can't get me, we all know who they'll be coming after" Markus says which I could tell worried Austin, that's what he told me yesterday he was worried would happen. If only I could tell him he's going to be left out of all of this in the end, we were going to be put in witness protection and he's never going to have to worry about this ever again. But for obvious reasons, I can't tell him any of that! 'But you don't need to worry, you both have helped me so much over these last few months. I'm not just talking the business aspect, but you have also made me see there were people out there who I could trust and for that, I have your back" Markus says which did make me feel a tiny bit bad, what he doesn't know is he really can't trust me as I'm the one he's telling people about and he just doesn't know it. 'Because I've got your backs is why I'm not going to let you take the fall for me" he says while I look up at Austin, I knew what Markus was going to say next but Austin, might not be seeing it coming. 'What are you saying?" Austin asks still not understanding, I thought he would have got that by now, if I didn't know what I know, I know I would have got it by now, I said know a lot! 'You and Payton have no other choice but to go on the run with me, if you don't then the police will soon close in on you and trust me, that's a fight you don't want to fight" Markus says breaking the news, I was still looking at Austin as he turns to me with a shocked expression. Yep, he definitely wasn't expecting that.
