Chapter Fifty
It was the next morning, when I woke up I was shocked to find Roman not asleep next to me. It took me a few seconds to remember what happened, where the feeling of confusion just takes over my body. I still don't have a single idea why Roman was arrested, he's nothing like Markus who should be the one put in jail!
I walk out of my bedroom to see Austin in the kitchen, he was downing a cup of coffee leaning up against the counter. He looks up to see me with a smile on his face, before I could reply he holds a second cup of coffee up towards me.
'I knew this would be something you'd be after, I heard you pacing up and down the house most of the night" he says handing me over the cup, I send him a little smile as a thank you before taking a look down.
'I'm sorry, I hope I didn't stop you from getting any sleep" I say with a little smile jumping up on the counter, the coffee was definitely needed as I take my first sip.
The silence soon engulfs us as we remain the in the kitchen, I just didn't know what I could say after everything that happened yesterday. I think Austin was feeling the same thing I was, totally at a lost for words.
'I know I've said multiple times that I liked it better with Roman gone, but now he is gone and taken in the way he was, I just don't know how to feel" Austin says breaking the silence, I nod my head with a sigh looking down as I went.
'I know, I have no idea what the heck happened yesterday or why Roman was carted off by police" I say speaking for the first time, but even discussing what happened with Roman made tears want to prick my eyes.
'When I woke up this morning I rang the station, but they told me as I'm not family they couldn't tell me anything. We know we won't get any answers that way, with the position Roman stands with his family" he says while I can't help but agree with him, to stop the tears I take a big gulp from my coffee.
'All last night the same questions were swirling around my head over and over again" I say still not looking up from the cup, but I felt Austin turn his head to look at me. 'What if Roman has been helping Markus all along?" I ask finally looking up to speak to him, but the tears that pricked my eyes won the battle and started to roll down my cheeks.
Austin places his cup on the counter and walks over to me, he takes mine from me too before taking hold of my hands in his.
'Whatever it is that Roman has down to cause him to get arrested, always remember that I have your back and will be by your side" he tells me looking me in the eyes as he went, I only nod my head to tell him I understood what he was telling me.
He pulls me closer to him for a hug, I hold him so tightly not realising that I needed this hug than I did. He kept whispering that it was all going to be okay, but without Roman I didn't know how any of this was going to work.
'Have you got any plans for the day?" Austin asks as he pulls away to look at my face, at first I was going to shake my head as I know my work will be closed due to the back of the place being hit.
But I soon remember, Jacob told me before he left with Roman that he would pick me up today. I can't just bail on him because firstly, I'm not like that. But second, this will give me all the answers that me and Austin are asking right now. I know I can't tell Austin when I find out, he'll be confused on how I know where I really wouldn't know what to tell him. But at least I will know what I'm dealing with.
'I have to go into work for a few hours" I say hating that I always had to lie to him, but until this situation with Markus passes, I can't tell him.
'Why would your boss want you to work when the whole town exploded yesterday?" He asks pretty confused and sounding quite annoyed, my boss actually told us all the opposite over text today.
'I don't have much choice, the boss man has called everyone in so he can see if anyone out of the staff is missing" I explain avoiding eye contact with him, I'm not that good at lying so I had to not look at his face at the moment. 'Apparently it is safe for people to go small distances, but even if it wasn't I don't want to lose my job so I have to go" I say not wanting Austin to say that it wasn't safe, I needed to know what happened with Roman.
'Do you need to work?" I ask after seeing he was growing very annoyed at the fact I said I was working, even though I knew too well my work was closed but I couldn't tell him that.
'No, Markus has gave us all a week off to fix whatever damages that might have happened, lucky for me there isn't any" he says which was true, I still have no idea how our complex wasn't hit with anything.
'After we know what we know, do you think Markus has anything to do with what happened?" I ask looking up at him for the first time, he looks around for a second before leaning down close to my ear.
'Almost definitely" he whispers like Markus or someone would be listening, I guess he's now feeling what Jacob told me weeks ago what Markus will get like with us.
I smile a little as this wasn't a surprise, after hearing the news and what Markus made me and Austin do just before. It's clear that he either had something to do with what happened, or was the main one that made it happens. Austin leans forward giving me one last squeeze before pulling away, but both of his hands were still on my arms as he looked at me.
'I promise, I will look after you no matter what happens" he tells me placing one of his hands on my cheeks, I smile knowing what he was saying was true.
'I know, Roman made you promise before he left that you would" I say with a little smile, but Austin only shakes his head getting a little closer to me.
'No, I would have even if he didn't tell me to. In some weird way, I feel as though it's my duty to protect you no matter what happens." He tells me which only makes me smile that much more, I lean over placing a soft kiss on his cheek as a thank you before telling him I needed to leave.
He moves aside so I could jump down from the counter, I go to grab my purse before walking over to the front door but stop just before I walk out. I turn back to the kitchen, where Austin was leaning up against the counter smiling at me.
'For some reason, I have this weird desire for pizza this evening, I'm hoping you can make it work" I say holding onto the open door as he look back at him, my comment makes him laugh looking down slightly.
'I'll see what I can do" he smiles looking back up at me, I send him a wink with a laugh before walking through the door and out the house.
As I make my way closer to the stairs, I spot Jacob in his car at the bottom. I look around to make sure Markus wasn't about, before running down the stairs and climbing in his car. Jacob sends me a worried smile before pulling the car away.
'Is this about what I think is this about?" I ask pulling my seatbelt around to clip in, he nods his head as we fully leave the complex.
'Oh yeah" was he said as went.
