Chapter Fifty-One

The car ride was silent, now I was in the car it gave my mind time to work. I know after this trip, Jacob will tell me what Roman has done and why he was carted away the way he was. But part of me doesn't want to know, to me Roman is the most generous and thoughtful guy, I don't want my view of him to be ruined by this situation. But I also want to know what he has done, if I never knew it would always be in the back of my mind. I know I could have started the conversation with Jacob, we've been with each other so many times that I kind of class him as a friend. But I could tell the vibe in the car, he was also lost in his own thoughts trying to make sense of everything that has happened. I assumed I would be taken to that abandoned looking warehouse, but we soon turn a corner and end up in a nice looking neighbourhood. We soon pull up at a nice looking house, which only makes me turn to look at Jacob a little confused. 'This is where I live" he tells me as he turns the car off with a smile, after a few moments I would have probably guessed that fact, but right now I was still a little confused on why we were here. 'Why have you taken me to your house?" I ask looking at the building in front of us, before turning to face him again. 'It isn't for a creepy reason or anything, I would have taken you to the warehouse again but we've just got word that Markus has some of his men waiting outside there. It's too dangerous for me to take you there, so I thought we're close now, I might as well take you home" he smiles pointing back towards the house, this makes me laugh taking my seatbelt off while he does the same. 'But won't Markus want to check here?" I ask just before I climbed out of the car, Jacob points at me shaking his head with a smile. 'On record, I live in a completely didn't place out of town, but I actually spend most of my time here that nobody knows about, well about from you now" he tells me opening up his car door, I have to admit that does sound like a smart idea. 'I'm really taking you behind the curtain aren't I?" He says closing the door, this does make me laugh climbing out of the car with him. 'Well I promise that I'll take it to the grave" I laugh playing along with what was happening, he laughs walking over to the front door and unlocking it. He moves aside gesturing for me to walk in first, I thank him taking my first steps in to look around at the place. I have to admit, it was a really nice looking house he had here. Jacob points over to the table which told me I should probably sit down, I smile walking over to sit where he soon joins me. 'Now we're here, can you please explain to me what happened for Roman to be arrested like that, what did he do?" I ask with was the question that has been on my mind most, I just can't think of anything bad that Roman could do. 'Roman hasn't done anything" he tells me sitting back in his chair, I just stare at him utterly confused unknowing if he knew the sentence that had just left his own lips. 'If he hasn't done anything, then explain to me why in the heck did you arrest him yesterday?!" I ask not really computing what I was being told, if Roman hadn't done anything why was he carted away?! 'We had to do that for Romans protection, we have many spies that are acting as employees of Markus which give us information on what he could be planning. They got word that Markus was planning to kill Roman" he tells me which once again makes my eyes go wide, why would anybody want to kill Roman?! 'What does Markus want with Roman, there's no reason for him to kill him!" I say not really getting what Markus was playing at, Roman has never done anything to hurt anyone, let alone Markus! 'The spy said that Markus feels as though Roman is getting in the way of the relationship between you and Austin" he explains which makes me get up from my chair and walk around the house, there is so many times that I want to run over to Markus and hit him upside the head, now is one of those times! 'In reality, Austin is actually getting in the way of mine and Roman's relationship!" I exclaim throwing my arms in the air, I can't believe that this situation has turned to be like this! 'We had to make it seem like Roman had done something, that way we could make it look like we were arresting him but really, he's in a safe house" Jacob explains as I continue to pace up and down, for some reason Roman being in a safe house is harder for my brain to understand than him being in prison! 'We rang Roman that morning and told him what is going to happen, we didn't need him shouting that he hadn't done anything. I would have told you but I needed you to really play the part, I felt so bad when I saw your face looking back at me" he sighs which did make me stop, at least Roman knew what was happening and didn't have a heart attack. 'You said he was in a safe house, where?" I ask sitting back in my chair after calming down, I just needed to know that he was safe and away from Markus. 'For his safety, I can't tell you where he is but he's safe I promise" Jacob reassures me, I sigh nodding my head taking a look down at the table. 'When is all of this going to end?" I ask taking a look up at him again, he sighs sending me a little smile to make me feel better. 'When Markus is arrested" he simply tells me, but I knew how complicated that was going to be. 'We thought we were close to catching him a few days ago, but then he decides to start blowing the town up!" Jacob rants which does answer one of my questions, Austin and I thought Markus was invoked but now to hear Jacob say it! 'So you know for sure that it was Markus who did it?" I ask just to confirm, Jacob looks up nodding his head with a sigh. 'We know it was him, every address he had you and Austin go to that night, blew up" he says which kind of makes me want to throw up, I can't believe he involved us in a sense! 'Why would Markus want to do that and hurt all of those people?" I ask wanting the sick feeling to go away, but the more I thought about it the more I wanted to be sick. 'It's just like you told Austin the other day, no one can guess what goes on in that man's mind so there's no point us even trying" he says which is what I told Austin and I stand by that, Markus is one of the most complex people I have ever come across. 'But we have of course been looking into it, it seems as though Markus was trying to eliminate any competition" he explains which definitely, sounds like something Markus would want to do. 'Do you have any idea what's going to happen?" I ask just wanting these basic sounding questions to be answered, but I knew how complicated these questions really were. 'In the end, Markus will be arrested and taken off the streets forever. But until then, we just need you to stay being the new normal around Markus" he says which was easier said than done, now I know what I know how am I ever going to look at that man again. 'I know this is so much to ask, but is there anyway that I would be able to see Roman, even for a minute?" I ask knowing that it sounded impossible if he was staying away from danger, lately I've been surrounded by danger basically everyday! 'I will try, but there is no promises" he says sending me smile while I nod, that's all I really want from him is to try. 'I'm still doing this for the same reason, to keep the ones I care about safe. If I have to stay away from Roman to do that, I will in a heartbeat" I say mainly talking to myself as I sat back in my chair, l had to keep reminding myself why I was doing this. 'You're doing great" Jacob smiles.
