Chapter Forty-Five

Austin and I look at each other for a few more seconds, Markus isn't being serious right now is he? He doesn't actually expect us to do some of his weird deliveries at this hour?! Austin looks back at Markus still shocked, but Markus's face didn't change. 'It's 9pm" Austin says trying to remind Markus that it was indeed late, but Markus just smiles nodding his head as though it was nothing. 'Isn't it a bit late to do this?" Austin asks when Markus still fails to understand where we were going with this! 'We all know night is the best time to do any sort of delivery, the roads are clear" Markus says shrugging, well perhaps if he stops to take in his own sentence, he would understand the reason for the roads being clear is everyone is at home! 'What type of people are we delivering these packages to?" Austin asks after realising Markus wouldn't back down this time, but his questions only worries me slightly, if we have to do this at nighttime, what and who are we delivering these to?! 'Just some good friends of mine is all" Markus says sitting back in his chair as he spoke, with what I know about Markus and the things he enjoys spending his time doing, I'm not liking the whole good friends comment. 'You don't have to worry Austin, I would never put little Payton in a situation where she can get hurt" he smiles looking over at me with a wink, that's funny because there has been multiple times where he's put me in extreme danger. 'And besides, we need to get some good use out of the car I gave you" he says crossing his arms looking back towards Austin, oh I knew there would be an ulterior motive to him just gifting Austin a car! 'Just to let you know, when you drove in I had my partner do a sweep of the car he's talking about, there is a hidden tracker underneath" Jacobs voice says through my ear piece, this information alone causing my heart to sink, Markus really wants to know everything that we're doing. 'What I'm not understanding is how us delivering these packages is helping the company?" Austin says snapping me out of my conversation with Jacob, but also my worried thoughts of what he told me. 'That's something that I will be dealing with, you just need to trust that I always have the company's best interests at heart and know what I'm doing. All you need to worry about Austin, is what I tell you to do and also, what you get payed to do" Markus says chuckling a little, but I could tell by his expression that he wasn't enjoying the many questions Austin had to ask him. 'We all know what would happen if he didn't do what he was told" Jacob said in my ear once again, which was something I couldn't help but agree with. 'Why don't you go and use the bathroom Payton, just while we fine out some details that would be really boring for you? The ride is going to take a few hours and you won't be able to make any stops" Markus smiles turning to look at me, I guess he doesn't want my to hear the little details of why this is all happening. 'Listen to him Payton, I'll find somewhere that you could hide so we can still hear" Jacob says quickly in my ear, this causes me to put a fake smile on my head as I nod. I stand up from my chair, sending Austin a worried look before turning to walk out of the dinning room. I didn't want to stay where Markus might catch on to me knowing more than I should, Austin doesn't even know how much I know! As I make it out of the dinning room, I begin to scan my surroundings acting as though I was looking for the bathroom but really, I was doing what Jacob told me by looking to see if I can hear what's being said. 'I've just got my hands on the plans of the house, it seems there is a bathroom right beside the dinning room. There is a weird sort of air vent that connects with the one in the dinning room, you might be able to hear" Jacob tells me which sort of grossed me out, why would you have an air vent connecting to the place you use the toilet and a place where you eat?! I look around and see the bathroom he was talking about, I walk over opening up the door to reveal a small bathroom. I walk through locking the door behind me, whilst my eyes scan for the air vent. This is when I see it was above the sink, how am I going to listen through there?! 'Get as close as you can so I would be able to hear through the earpiece" he tells me which sounded impossible, I walk over to the sink and climb on top so my face was right near the vent and I could actually hear what was being said. 'Stay as quiet as you can" Jacob says as I get even closer. 'Its like any other normal job that you do for me, the only difference is you won't be hiding these packages in cars but handing it over to them" Markus says obviously, talking to Austin who I assume is still hating the idea. 'If this is like any normal job that I do, why do I have to bring Payton with me?" Austin asks only confirming what I thought, he always tells me that he won't let me get involved in this but here I am, getting involved! 'Taking Payton with you will make you two seem less suspicious, I mean look at her she couldn't hurt a fly!" Markus exclaims which I wont lie, kind of offended me! I beg to differ sir, I got suspended from school once for accidentally hitting a girl with a chair! 'I don't want to bring Payton into any of this, it has nothing to do witg her" Austin says still trying to defend me, he doesn't know I can hear but he's still doing it! 'I agree with you Austin, we're not bringing Payton into anything" Markus says while I just shake my head, it doesn't seem like he isn't bringing me into things. 'Head back in Payton, make it seem like you haven't heard everything that was just said" Jacobs voice snaps me out of their conversation, I do I'm told and carefully jump down from the counter. If I'm able to hear what their saying, I bet they would be able to hear what I'm doing if they listen. I walk over to the toilet and flush it, while also washing my hands not just because I want to make it seem like I actually used the bathroom. But the thought of standing in a bathroom and not washing my hands grossed me out, how many germs could be lingering around? I soon leave the bathroom and head towards the dinning room, my heels clicking on the wooden floor. Their voices get louder as I get closer, but when I reach the door they stop. Markus smiles standing up from his chair, a piece of paper now in his hands. 'It's time to go" he smiles as Austin also gets out of his chair, before too long he was standing beside me. 'My guys have already filled up the car with the packages, Payton I didn't want you to feel left out so here is all the addresses that you will be in charge of" Markus smiles handing me over he piece of paper, I didn't want him to find it suspicious so I just smile and nod. 'What should we do after we've delivered them all?" Austin asks taking my hand slightly and pulling me to stand near him, which meant I was further away from Markus. 'You come back here of course, we need to finish dinner!" Markus smiles as though it was something that we needed to celebrate, I will only celebrate when he is locked in a prison cell where he belongs! Austin just nods with a smile before taking my hand, before I knew it he was leading me out of the house and towards the car. In the back seat, I could see the many packages that we needed to deliver to these people. How long is this actually going to take?! 'Just do exactly what Markus said, while you're giving the addresses and directions to Austin, I can write them all down" Jacob says as Austin unlocks the car and we both climb in. 'Well I didn't know we'd be doing this tonight" Austin says with a sigh as he starts the car, I just look over sending him a smile so he wouldn't feel bad. 'It's fine, it'll be a new experience for both of us" I smile while he just sends me one back.
