Chapter17
Kassandra
The next day, I was at the meadow because I had a lot on my mind after hearing my Mother and Zonar's conversation. I wondered why they were talking about me and what they were hiding from me. I played with the water by using my magic on it. I waved my fingers a few times and I watched the small water serpent float in mid-air.
"Hey, Kass!!"
I jumped in fright when Zen called out to me and that caused me to cancel my spell.
"Zen! don't sneak up on me like that!"
"Is something on your mind?"
I looked away from Zen after he sat beside me. I told him what I heard last night after talking to Shay. He was surprised when I told him about Zonar and my Mother.
"Hmm...that does sound like they're hiding something from you. What do you think it is?"
"I have no idea and whatever it is it, it's probably bad if they can't tell me."
"Yeah, but the question is, what are they hiding from you and the King?"
We both folded our arms across our chests and we both sat there thinking about it for a few moments until our eyes widen in shock and we came to the same conclusion.
"What if they're having an affair?!" We both shouted in unison.
We scrambled onto our feet and then we headed to the meadow to confront Zonar. However, when we got there, he was nowhere to be seen. Just then, Zen's father, Onde, came over to us and he said to us.
"Hello, you two."
"Hello father, have you seen Lord Zonar?"
"Last time I saw him, he was heading to the castle with Kydre. He said something about seeing your mother and talking to her about something important."
"Did he say what it was?" Zen asked him.
"No, why do you ask?"
"Uh, no reason, please excuse us!"
Zen told him before grabbing my hand and then we ran from the meadow. We ran through the woods and then Zen said to me.
"We have to get to the castle and tell your father what's been going on!"
"No way! he will kill Zonar! you know what his temper is like!"
"Then we'll just confront your mother instead!"
"Sounds good to me! now hurry up and shift!"
Zen nodded his head but before he could shift a purple light appeared on his body.
"W-what the?! I can't move!"
"Zen! what's wrong?!" I asked him in a panicked tone until I saw a woman wearing purple robes with a hood on approach us.
"Hello, Princess."
"Who are you?" I asked before standing at a fighting stance.
"Kassandra! don't! she's a dark sorceress! you don't stand a chance against her!"
Zen shouted at me but, my body was also paralyzed by that mysterious spell.
"You look a little tired Princess, time for you to fall asleep."
The woman told me before she placed her index and middle finger on my forehead before everything went black.
A few hours later...
I opened my eyes and I have a major headache. I looked around and I found myself in the castle's nurse's room. I was confused at first until my father came in and he looked relieved to see me.
"Oh, Kassandra! thank goodness you're all right!"
Father hugged me tightly and I asked him.
"Father, what on earth happened?"
"Don't you remember? you were taking a stroll through the village until the dragons started attacking."
My eyes widen in shock and I said to him.
"What?! why?!"
"It's because they declared war on us and..." Father looked away and he looked sad. "...a dragon killed your mother."
My eyes widen in shock and then I started crying.
"No! this can't be happening!"
"I'm sorry sweetheart, it did happen."
Father told me as he stroked my hair and I asked him.
"What will you do about the dragons?"
"I've exiled them along with the other magical creatures. From now on, Cassina is no longer a Dragons' safe haven. I will not accept them back here ever again."
"Good, because I am never trusting a dragon again!" I spoke with a frown.
"Father, don't ever let a dragon come near me again!"
Father nodded his head before wrapping his arms around me to comfort me.
Present-day...
Right after I remembered everything about my bonds with the dragons and my best friend, I smiled to myself and I mumbled.
"I remember...I remember everything..."
Aunt Katrina looked at me and she asked me.
"Kassandra, do you remember me now?"
I smiled at Aunt Katrina and I flung my arms around her.
"Aunt Katrina! I missed you so much!!"
"I missed you too!"
Kydre smiled at me and he nudged his head at me.
"Hey, what about me?"
I smiled at Kydre and I pressed my forehead against his snout and I stroked his scales. I felt tears in the corner of my eyes and I said to him.
"Kydre...I missed you too...I can't believe I've forgotten all about you and the horde...how could my father do this to me...?"
Kydre growled a little and then he licked my face making me giggle.
"Don't be upset Kassandra and it doesn't matter if you had your memories wiped by that evil Sorceress or if you still had them, we still love you."
I smiled at Kydre and I asked them.
"So, if my memories were messed up this whole time then...what happened to my mother and Zonar? what were they hiding from me?" I asked them.
Aunt Katrina and Kydre looked at each other and they nodded. Aunt Katrina looked at me and she said to me.
"Kassandra, have you ever wondered why you felt that mysterious connection with Zonar?"
"I did, I spoke to you about it the day before I lost my memories."
"Well, there's a reason for it and why you saw Karen and Zonar together."
Kydre nodded his head and he said to me.
"The reason why your mother and Zonar were together it is because they were mates."
My eyes widen in shock and then I said to them.
"They were?! when did this happen?!"
"They found out they were mates after Karen married that good-for-nothing king Scott."
I was surprised by this and then I asked them.
"So in other words, they kept quiet about their relationship from my father? but why? why couldn't my mother say anything to him?"
"Because your mother was carrying something very valuable and that something or should I say, someone, was you."
"Me?"
"Yes, when she fell pregnant with you, she couldn't bring herself to tell King Scott that she was in love with someone else so she played the role of the good Queen for a while until you were born. She wanted to tell Scott so many times but, she couldn't do it because she had to protect you from him including Zonar," Aunt Katrina explained to me.
"But why?"
"Because..." Aunt Katrina paused for a moment and then she told me something that I will never forget.
"Because you're not King Scott's daughter, in fact, you never meant to be a Princess. Your birth father was Zonar and King Scott was the one who murdered him."
"W-what?" I asked in a shocked tone.
'Zonar...the dragon who was the leader of the horde in Cassina and the one who I looked up to all those years ago...is my birth father?!'
