Chapter24
Kassandra
Leo and I sat by the edge of the lake and he told me what was going on back in Cassina. Leo told me that Scott was still searching for me and he's still trying to find a way to get here and bring me back. I wasn't surprised since he still needed an heir to take over the throne. I was glad that he didn't know but, after seeing the vision I knew it was only a matter of time before he comes here and raids our home.
"So that's what's been going but, why are you here and not with Scott?"
"After Alfred's explanation about the events that took place 10 years ago, there is no way my loyalty remains with the King. He doesn't deserve that title."
I smiled at Leo's comment and I said to him.
"That's the best news I've heard from you all day. However, are you sure you're willing to abandon your position as commander of Cassina's army? you worked hard to get to where you are."
"It was worth it at first, however, my loyalty will always remain with you, Kassandra."
"But, I'm not the princess anymore."
"So what? that won't stop me from seeing my sister."
I blushed when he called me that and then I looked away from him. I then remembered that white dragon from before and I said to him.
"That reminds me, what's going with you and that White dragon? Crystal, wasn't it?"
"Uh...yes, that's her name."
"She's pretty isn't she?"
"She's not just pretty, she's beautiful."
I smirked at Leo and then he realized I caught him in my trap.
"Did I say that out loud?"
"Yes you did and something tells me you more than like her."
Leo blushed bright red when I said this and he said to me.
"Oh no! no! no! no! it's not like that! well, uh, I mean it kinda is? I'm not sure. We're still getting to know each other and uh...well-"
"Hahahahaha!! denial is the first sign of someone who is in love!"
"Love?! don't be ridiculous!" Leo told me as he looked away from me with a frown.
"You're in love with Crystal! you're in love with Crystal!" I teased him before he covered my mouth with his hand.
"Stop it! okay fine, you got me. I admit it, your old friend Shay the Dragon priest explained to me that Crystal might be my mate."
I was surprised by this but, then again, I did notice that she was a bit clingy with him. Leo removed my hand and I asked him.
"So what's the big deal? she's cute, she's beautiful and I think you two make the perfect couple."
"Well, that's the thing...I've never actually, what's the term again? courted a woman before?"
"She's not a princess you know. Crystal is a dragon shifter and she doesn't care if you used to work as a knight in Cassina. She likes you."
"Do you really think so?"
"I don't think, I know. You're forgetting Drago is my mate. Sure he can be a bit possessive but, there's always a gentler side to him. The same can be said about Crystal. I've seen the way she's been clinging to you and how she's always growling at the other female dragons."
"Wow...I've never noticed until now..."
I giggled when Leo said this and then we spotted Crystal standing near the lake. She had a smile on her face as she looked at her reflection. I noticed Leo staring at her with a smile on his face. I picked up a wildflower and I gave it to him.
"Go on, speak to her and get to know her."
"What should I say?"
"Be yourself, now go!"
I gave him an encouraging shove and then he stood up. Leo nodded his head and then he walked towards Crystal with the wildflower in his hand. I watched him approach Crystal and then he placed the wildflower in her hair and she smiled at this.
"Looks like they're getting on so well, aren't they?"
Drago spoke as he sat next to me.
"They certainly are, Leo is still a little bit on the awkward side but, he's getting there."
I said as we watched them talk and Crystal hugging his arm as they walked by the lake together.
"Are we seriously going to let them help us? Leo was once a knight of Cassina and Alfred is a Dragonslayer."
"They're not those things anymore. I can tell they've changed, why can't you give them a chance?"
"It's in my nature to protect my mate and you should do the same."
I sighed a little and I mumbled.
"I wonder about you sometimes..."
Dargo gave me that look that says 'What is that suppose to mean?' I chuckled nervously when I said this and then he wrapped his arm around my shoulders.
"Honestly, what am I going to do with you?"
Drago asked with a smirk on his face before kissing my cheek. I giggled a little when he was being affectionate towards me and then I rested my head on his shoulder. I looked at Drago and I said to him.
"Drago, when the raid happens and if we see that dragon, can you promise me one thing?"
"What's that?"
"Promise me to be careful and don't lose the fight."
Drago nodded his head and he wrapped his arms around me.
"I promise and you have to promise me something too."
"What is it?"
"Stay safe and try and stay away from the battlefield if you can."
"I promise."
I spoke with a smile. Drago smiled and then he pulled away from me before kissing my lips.
Meanwhile...
King Scott
It won't be long until we make our move to Drago's mountain. I couldn't wait to deal with those pesky dragons once and for all. No more will they kidnap young women and keep them as their hostage or as their...brides as the Dragon priests told us after taking control of their village. I decided to pay Zonar a visit to the dungeons so I can see how he was being treated.
Once I got there, he was sitting in the corner with his wrists chained to the wall. I noticed that he hadn't touched the cold stew that my chef made for him.
"What's the matter Zonar? are you not enjoying the food we're providing for you?" I asked with a smirk.
"...What's there to like about it? ...and besides," Zonar looked at me and he smirked back.
"Your hospitality could do with some improvement."
"I'll be sure to keep that mind."
"Is there a reason why you've come here at this hour? did you come here to gloat about my situation?"
"What's there to gloat? Why are you still alive? You should have died 10 years ago."
"I know but...Karen wouldn't let me go to the afterlife."
I frowned at him and then I punched his jaw. Zonar fell to the side and he grunted a little.
"Don't you dare say her name in my presence! because of you! my Queen and my daughter's mother! is dead!!"
Zonar chuckled and he looked at me with a smirk.
"Funny... you claim Karen was once your Queen but...if I recall correctly..." Zonar spoke as he sat up.
"Didn't you promise another sorceress to make her your Queen before my mate came into your life? who was she again...? oh that's right, it was Zara wasn't it? the same sorceress who tried to kill Karen before she could save me."
My eyes widen in shock when he said this.
"H-how did you know?!"
"Come on Scott, I'm a dragon remember? I was able to smell her scent all over you before you tried to kill me. Not to mention I can smell her scent all over you right now. Did you have fun with her when you two were sharing the same bed? I would hate to think how my daughter, oh wait, I mean your daughter, would react when she finds out that you not only lied to her but, you also betrayed her mother's trust."
I frowned when he said this and I told him.
"You wouldn't dare tell her about this!!"
"I would have but, as you can see, I can't do anything about it. Besides..."
Zonar wiped away the blood on his chin and he said to me.
"I already know what you two want from me, I'm not willing to take the chance to break free and see Kassandra for myself. I'll keep quiet for now but, I should you warn you..."
Zonar glared at me as his eyes glowed in anger.
"If I catch you hurting Kassandra in any way, I will roast you and I will eat you afterwards."
I took a few steps back from him and I told him.
"Fine...just make sure you keep quiet or else I will get the dragonslayers to put a muzzle on you."
"I'll keep that in mind, King Scott."
Zonar spoke sarcastically as I left the dungeons. Once I got into the hallway, I frowned in anger and I thought to myself.
'Dammit!! how did it come to this?! all I ever wanted was to have a Queen and an heir to the throne!'
I looked out of the window and as I looked at the afternoon sky, I could see Karen's smiling face.
'Karen...why did betray me...? how could you choose that Dragon over me?'
