Chapter27
King Scott
I was in my office and I was discussing how we were going to get through the forbidden forest and get my daughter back from that monster who stole her from me. Zara also told me that the fog surrounding the forest is being controlled by a coven that Katrina and Karen used to be a part of but, with her magic, she'll be able to clear some of it away while using Zonar's senses we'll be able to find the mountain and get Kassandra back.
"We'll enter the forest here and then Zonar will become our compass and with any luck, we'll get to Drago's mountain."
"Good, this should make our job a lot easier. However, we're only missing Leo, I wonder he's got to?"
I asked myself since I haven't heard anything from him in a while before Zara spoke up.
"Don't worry about him, we've got all the firepower we need and if he's not here by the time we're ready to move out, well, that's his fault."
I nodded my head in agreement before one of the dragonslayers came into the office.
"Sorry to interrupt, your majesty, but, one of our men has done a disappearing act. Shall I go and look for him?"
"What do you mean?" I asked him in a confused tone until Zara mumbled.
"Oh no..."
"What?" I asked her.
"You idiot!! that man who went missing was a dragon shifter!!"
The dragonslayer looked shocked when Zara said this and then I asked her.
"How do you know?"
"There are rare species of dragons who can make themselves invisible like a Cameleon and there was one right under our noses!"
"What?!!" I shouted in anger. "That Zonar! I should have known he was up to something, he got captured on purpose so he allowed one of his friends to sneak in here and learn about our motives!"
"And it was also my fault for not realizing this sooner, what will have us do?" Zara asked me.
"Now that we know we had a spy, we can't wait any longer. We need to get the mountain at once!"
Zara nodded her head and then the Dragonslayer left to get ready.
'You may think you have won Zonar but, I will make sure you and your horde suffer for what you did to my Queen and my daughter.'
Kassandra
I rode on the back of Zen's back in his dragon form with Drago flying next to us and Zen had decided to tell him a few stories about me. I heard Drago chuckling through the mind link and then Zen spoke up.
"And then Kass decided to place the frog we captured from the meadow earlier that day and then she placed it on top of Lily's head."
"And then what happened?" Drago asked him a grin while I sat there shaking my head with a small smile on my face.
"By the time she heard the frog croaking, she started screaming like a banshee and then she made a ran out of the dining room!!"
Drago laughed when Zen told him that story about us pulling one of our pranks.
"My goodness, you two were a pair of troublemakers weren't you?" Drago asked after calming his laughter.
"Yes, we were, those were the good old days," Zen spoke with a smirk on his face.
"Those were the good old days. I wish we could get them back though, I missed being that trouble making Princess who also hung out with dragons and having one as a best friend."
"And you still can," Drago told me as he flew a little closer to us.
"Once this fight is over, we'll go back to the horde and you can be my little trouble making Princess."
I giggled when he said this and then Zen hovered for a moment.
"We're getting close, hang on!"
Zen told me before I held onto his spikes tightly and then we flew closer to the area where Zen was going to land. I spotted a mountain and this one looks ancient.
"Where are we?" I asked Zen.
"This place used to belong to our Lord's horde before we arrived in Cassina centuries ago. It's also the same place where the Pool of Dragon souls lies."
We flew closer to the entrance to the cave and then Zen and Drago land on the ground. I got off of Zen's back and then he turned into his human form.
"We go through there and then we'll get to the pool. Sorry Drago, but, this is far as you can go."
"I know, I'll respect Zonar's sacred place but, I want my mate back home without a mark on her body."
"Yes sir!" Zen spoke as he saluted Drago.
I chuckled at his silliness and then Drago looked at me.
"Kassandra, make sure to keep that necklace on at all times. At least that way I know you're all right but, if something goes wrong-"
"I'll mind link you if there's trouble."
I told him with a smile before he nudged his head so I can pet him.
"All right lovebirds, break it up."
"Hey! you wait until you get a mate of your own and then you'll have a taste."
Zen chuckled before Drago nudged his head against me one more time before taking off into the sky to head back to the horde. Zen and I went into the cave and I can feel something...ghostly in the air. Zen led me deeper into the cave until we came across a large circular pool and it was glowing faintly. I could hear the whispers of the dragons who lost their lives.
"This is where we used to help those find their dragon spirit. The souls that you hear whispering are those who lost their lives during our ancestors' time and this where they created the pool to help the dragon shifters find their spirits."
I understood this and then Zen explained to me.
"I haven't been there myself since I was able to awaken my dragon spirit when I turned 18. However, I should warn you, this pool might or might not work. There are some half-breeds who were unable to awaken their dragon spirits so, there's a very small chance this might not work."
I lowered my head sadly but, Zen kept that smile on his face.
"But, Lord Zonar and I believe in you. We both know you can do it."
"Thanks, Zen. What do I have to do?"
I asked him as I looked at the pool.
"All you have to do is go into the water and when you do, you need to duck your head under and then rest is up to you."
"Meaning, I have to find my dragon spirit among the souls?"
Zen nodded his head and I asked him.
"How do I know which one is my spirit and not a soul that was lost many years ago?"
"You will know, right here."
Zen told me as he pointed at my chest. I looked back at the pool and then I took a deep breath before I told him.
"All right, let's do this."
I took off my boots so it was easier to swim in the pool and then I stepped into the water which caused small sparks and then the water started glowing brighter.
"Uh, is it supposed to do that?" I asked Zen.
"Don't worry, it usually does that when someone steps into the water to find their dragon spirit."
I sighed in relief but, I couldn't relax just yet. I put my other foot into the water so I was about knee length deep in the water. I calmed my shaky breathing before walking deeper into the water until I was about shoulder length into the water. I looked Zen and he said to me.
"Good luck."
I nodded my head before I took a few deep breaths and then I held my breath and ducked my head underwater. When I was underwater, I saw dragons all around me from big to small. Except these were ancient and they were souls or should I say ghosts.
'Incredible...not only can I breathe underwater but, I'm looking at dragons who have to be at least thousands of years old.'
I shook my head and realized this was not the time to get distracted. I looked around and I tried to search for my dragon spirit but, I didn't how I was going to find it until I remembered what Zen told me. I placed my hand on my chest and I closed my eyes.
'I don't know if you can hear me but...I need to find you. I need your help...my mate, no, our mate needs our help and if we don't stop the threat soon, everyone will die...please, give me sign or something to let me know where you are!'
I called out to my dragon spirit. At first, I thought I wasn't going to find it until my body started glowing purple. I looked down and then a glowing string that came out of my chest and it started to lead me somewhere. I smiled at this and then I followed the string or should I say the chain. After a while, I found a dragon who was in a lying down position and she raised her head at me.
She was beautiful, she was a black-purple dragon with sapphire eyes and she also has a crystal on her forehead. I smiled at her and then she lowered her head so she was at my level.
"I've been expecting you, Kassandra."
