Chapter 37
I laughed a little at his reaction as he kept looking in the other direction. Probably not used to displaying his smirk before everyone.
Which I could understand, he was not the best man after all.
'Honestly, I didn't think that he would let you wear it… he doesn't like this color." Jacey chuckled nervously.
'Hmm. I know. Don't worry about it. It's alright. It compliments my blush when he does this-"
My smirk widened when I was about to snicker at him but done with me taking advantage of his two soft words, he put his hand in the air, sighing loudly to cut my talks short.
'Okay! I am going around." Speaking in a loud tone, he went down, leaving us alone.
I giggled at his reaction, leaning against the railing to watch him leave and greet his guests politely.
Since he had used me to clear his image, he had to maintain it, he must act sweetly now. Well, at least he was trying, the pride was still present in his aura.
'I am glad to see you two becoming better." Jacey whispered, smiling at us.
He was talking to someone and glanced from his shoulder only to find me smirking at him. When our eyes met, I waved my hand gracefully.
Clearing his throat, he turned his head away quickly, going back to the conversation.
After a few minutes, he looked in my direction again. This time, I raised my eyebrows. He narrowed his eyes, taking a sip of his drink, not breaking our eye contact this time.
'Jacey…"
Holding my head high, I folded my arms at my chest.
'Hmm?"
'Can you make him take a picture with me?" I asked, scanning the handsome man before turning to her.
'Sure." She grinned, delighted to find us becoming better.
Jacey went and began to drag him to me. He was almost hissing, clearly declining her but she insisted, pulling his arm.
'No, I won't-"
'For me, Dairel, please."
Defeated at her constant request, he was forced to take a picture with me and my chest was brimming with felicity.
'Dariel, Hold her close. Yeah, just like this. Look at each other. Perfect!"
His one hand was on my waist, my upper body was shifted to him as we both were staring at each other. I gradually rested my one hand over his chest, creating a perfect pose I always imagined to have.
'Saafia…"
Pausing, he narrowed his eyes, placing his hand over mine as I got lost in him, refusing to let him go.
'Hmm?"
'Stop."
He breathed out, bringing my hand upward. Placing it over his heart as I was unable to comprehend what he meant by it.
'Stop what?"
With this, he shut his eyes. Not caring if people were seeing us, not believing it was that cold and heartless billionaire who once destroyed his ex wife.
'Stop doing this to me…"
Exhaling sharply, desperately, he pulled away abruptly from me, walking away. Leaving me all alone as I glanced at the hand he held.
Thinking sorrowfully, ‘You stop doing this to me…'
After he left, my eyes were affixed on the hand he held. Curling my lips in a sincere smile, I brushed my thumb over my wrist. I could understand his hesitation.
He was not used to all this.
Exhaling, I was looking down as Jacey rushed to my side, 'Are you okay, Saafia?"
Having no idea what happened to her brother who walked away without a single word. Blinking, I came to reality, turning my head to her.
'Huh? Yeah, yeah. Did you take the picture? Show it."
I continued to smile, looking at the picture. Having the perfect pose I always wanted to capture with my husband.
'Send me this right now." I grinned, setting that picture of ours as my wallpaper immediately.
'Wow, you guys were looking intense. I told you, you guys look perfect together, didn't I?" She whispered.
And this time, this sounded like a compliment. When she first said it, it felt weird, outrageous but now, it felt.. Good.
Why? How was this possible?
'Thank you." Whispering shyly, I tugged my hair behind my ear, lifting my gaze again only to find him staring at me.
Arms slowly folding over his chest, lips parted along with those eyes contemplating me keenly, stopping at my face.
I blushed and looked in the other direction, only to find Sarah coming. Giving me an excuse to run away from his eyes.
'Just a second, Jacey. My sister is here. You also find your man." I smiled, tapping her shoulder.
'Okay." She giggled, greeting Sarah and going to find Sam.
'Hey." Hugging Sarah, I flashed her a wide smile. Wanting to scold her for missing the moment.
'Never thought I would attend such a rich sophisticated event. Did you also go to such parties with Jared?" She whispered, scanning the area.
'Sometimes. You are his sister-in-law, of course he will invite you now." I shrugged my shoulders nonchalantly.
I glanced from my shoulder, he was still looking at me!
My eyes widened but I quickly turned, holding Sarah and facing my back to him.
He was doing this on purpose. I could tell.
'Sarah, listen… what do you think when you see us together?" I whispered, turning to Sarah.
Telling me to stop and then doing this to me himself. He was confused himself.
She looked at me and then at him, taking a deep breath before giving me her honest yet brutal opinion.
'A mismatched couple. I seriously wonder how you manage with him. I have heard he used to abuse his wife too, he hadn't hurt you, did he?" She asked, spoiling my mood with her calm reply.
'No! It's nothing like this. We are… managing." I gasped, moving away from her. Not expecting this reply.
She could have told me something optimistic but no.
'Of course. He must not be caring or not consider you a wife even-"
She was about to scoff but I held her arm desperately. She was about to speak what I was not prepared to listen to, at least not now.
'He does, Sarah. You are a moment late, you missed how he held me right now. He has started to care… He-"
I was about to explain to her hopelessly, I was about to show her our picture but he came. His addictive scent stopped me.
