Chapter 75
'If you had done it, you would have surrendered without a second thought, Boss. You are saving someone and I guess… Madam?" He chuckled dryly, going through his contacts to clean this mess before it could cause further tribulation.
'She was so frightened, she had started drinking too, I was scared, I didn't know what to do. To save her if I have to take the blame, I will." I enunciated, willing to take punishment in her place but I won't let her get hurt or destroyed.
'I won't let it. They need you. Your Uncle is too cruel, he would do the worst to your family if he came to know. I will handle it silently." He hissed, well aware of my family's position.
We were stuck badly and needed each other's support which he understood.
'Please help that man's family. We didn't mean to do it. I swear, It was unintentional." I whispered desperately. I knew if I wasn't able to do anything for them, it would eat me from inside.
'I understand. You go home and relax, I will handle things and let you know if there is anything needed." He nodded.
I was miserable but believing in his assurance, I did anything necessary, following his instruction and spending terrifying moments of horror. I returned home at dawn after taking care of this matter.
My chest was so heavy in guilt. I hated myself, I hated what we did but we had no other choice.
The second I entered, Mama rushed to me, her eyes were red, clinging onto me desperately, breathlessly.
'Dariel! Where were you!? I was so disturbed! Did you take care of it!? Do they know it was me?" She whispered, trembling in fear.
'I took care of it, no one knows anything. Don't worry and relax. For anything like this ever happened." I whispered, pulling her in my embrace to not wail anymore and control her emotion.
'Dariel… Do something. Uncle Harry and Helder will crush us. They will use this and take our home and property if they come to know." Jacey, sniffed, frightened to imagine what would happen to us if it was brought to surface.
Curling my lips in a smile, I cupped her cheeks, 'Don't worry, I am here for you. Nothing can steal our rights from us."
Glancing at my family, I knew I had to break all my ethics to save them which I did. With tears in my eyes, I declared strongly.
'I will protect you guys."
Later, in a few weeks, Ian arranged everything. My name was not brought to the surface. They kept it confidential, swiping me out from everything immaculately.
'They need your testimony, come, Sir. I will take care of it and this case will be closed. And yeah, hide your face when you come." Ian instructed.
'Okay."
Collecting my devastated self, I went to end this case and annihilate it from our lives for once and for all.
The second I entered, I heard a seventeen year old girl with beautiful light blue eyes and messy auburn hair creating a ruckus in the station.
'I know you guys are lying to save that bastard who did it!" She yelled.
My steps froze to the ground, knowing we were her culprit but there was nothing I could do except for apologizing.
'Ma'am, we understand your concern." The inspector tried to calm her down.
'No, you don't understand! My Father is in a coma, they said he won't wake up! Do you think your fucking money and bring my father to life!?"
My body shivered, not believing how horrible his condition must be. Our one mistake ruined that poor girl's life and it induced an inexplicable amount of remorse in me.
But, no matter what, I had to save my family too. My hands were tied because of responsibilities.
'Ma'am, stop creating a scene. We understand you are depressed but relax. This is your culprit, they are willing to pay for his medical too. So please stop wreaking havoc."
They sighed, motioning to her to stop creating such a scene but nothing could cease the anguish display in those sapphire eyes.
'You are lying, trying to save the real culprit. I know that." She snarled, slamming her hand down on the table, rejecting the money I provided as the least we could do for her.
'Take your goddamn money, we don't need it. Your blood money won't give my father life." She hissed, turning to leave with a crushed heart.
The small woman was beside me, not paying attention to me. Holding my cap, I lowered my head from unaccountable guilt, looking down at her.
My Saafia was standing so close to me and despite having endless gloom, I had no words to tell her. The pain in her eyes silenced me.
‘I am sorry. I am so sorry.' I thought sorrowfully.
Her culprit stood next to her but rage blinded her as she turned to those people who couldn't provide her with justice, including me.
'You know what?"
And then she cursed me and my family in such a deadly way that till today, our happiness was demolished.
'Those who ruined my home, may your home be ruined in the same way!"
PRESENT
'Your curse worked, Saafia."
With retreating steps, tears glistened in my eyes while shaking my head in anguish with a crushing weight on my chest.
Saafia had tears in her eyes, realizing how I took the blame to save my family.
I had no regrets of taking the blame because they needed me, my family needed
But my mind was revolving around her words I was unable to fix.
'My mother died, my sister left me alone. My wife cheated on me and now I have become the culprit of the woman I love."
Clutching my chest, I displayed my anguish so she could witness how hard it was for me to contain this heartbreak but my life was seriously cursed.
'MY HOME WAS RUINED!"
