PEACOCK
VALERIE
I open the balcony's door and enter Evie's room. She's lying on her bed crying but when she sees me, she gets up and comes running to hug me.
"I swear, I didn't ask him to mark me!" she tells me, sobbing. "I couldn't stop him, I'm so sorry."
"Hush! Evie, it's okay."
"I'm not going to join their Pack. I will not." She tells me as I make her sit on the bed.
"You don't have to. Talk to Jasper about it tomorrow, okay?" I tell her.
"I'll never talk to that peacock again." She tells me shaking her head and wipes her nose. "Are they mad?" she asks me.
"They were, but after I hit Jasper they are all cool." I assure her, grinning at the memory of me fighting my brother. It was fun to see him being the one taking the hits.
What bothered me was when I used to hit him, he'd lunge at me but none of his moves were to attack me. He didn't even try to attack me when I hit him.
"You hit him? Is he okay?" Evie squeaks and I raise my eyebrows at my best friend.
"What? No thanks Val?" I ask her chuckling and sit on the bed.
"Oh yeah, thanks Val but is he okay?" she asks me again with concern for her mate.
"He is fine, I knocked him out but he might be up by now." I tell her.
"Huh." She says while sulking.
"You need some rest." I tell her, "Sleep."
"Daddy is going to come tomorrow." She tells me and I notice the worried look on her face.
"Mike won't say anything, he'll be happy for you." I assure her and she smiles at me.
"I'm kicking Jasper's ass tomorrow." She mutters and lies on the bed.
"Goodnight." I tell her and closes the door behind me.
When I come out of the room I see Edith and Bella in the hallway.
"Is she okay?" Bella is the first one to ask.
"Yeah, she is fine. Go to sleep, you have school tomorrow." I tell her and she nods and goes upstairs to her room.
"How did you control your wolf?" Edith asks me and I blush immediately.
I know I almost lost control after I came to know Jasper marked Evie, but when Shawn came and stood in front of me, his scent calmed me down.
"Why are you blushing?" Edith asks me.
"I- it was because of Shawn." I tell her and she smiles at me. I quickly enter my room before she can tease me and when I close the door to my room, I hear her giggling.
*****
I run as fast as I can in my human form but still can't beat Oscar's brown wolf.
"You missed by 44 seconds, better than the last time though." Nathan tells me.
I'm currently training myself to run faster than a wolf while I'm in my human form but it seems a very tough job to complete.
"Good morning guys." Evie says happily while walking towards us. Okay, something is wrong.
"What?" she asks in irritation when we all stare at her.
"Nothing," I say and everyone else looks away.
"Look, they have come." Nathan says staring at someone behind us.
We turn and see a few members of the Silverstone Moon Pack coming towards us. They want to train with us.
"Luna." Charles greets me and everyone in my Pack including me growl at him.
'Begin the training.' I tell Oscar through the link.
"Can I fight?" Evie asks and all of us are back to staring at her. Told ya, something is wrong!
The way she's looking at me with both eyebrows raised and arms crossed tells me that she won't like it if I say no. Hell, she'll fight me if I say no!
I turn to look at the Silverstone wolves, poor guys. I hope she doesn't hit them badly.
I nod at Evie and a circle is formed.
Charles comes inside the ring smirking at Evie. Uh-oh! Though Evie looks happy outside, I know there's a volcanic eruption going on inside her. It's all for Jasper but Charles is going to suffer now.
I would have felt pity if it was someone else, but this is Charles the idiot who threw me in a dustbin once. So, let him take the hit!
Shawn's scent hits me and I see him coming towards the Pack House with Jasper and Abed.
"Only one?" Evie asks to no one in particular.
"Let's see how you'll deal with this one." Charles says growling.
Jasper growls at Charles while Evie gives Jasper a dirty look. I walk and stand next to Jasper after giving a smile to my mate.
"Why is she in there?" Jasper asks me growling.
"You should have come a little earlier and then you would have been in there with her. Poor Charles." I tell my brother. "Hold him for me, will you?" I ask Shawn and he cocks an eyebrow at me which I hate.
As soon as Nathan blows the whistle, Evie clenches her fists. Both she and Charles run forward and before Charles can lunge at her, Evie jumps and punches Charles's nose. Ouch, that must hurt!
Charles stumbles a little but composes himself.
Evie is very good in fighting because she's also trained by Nelson. Her sister's death affected us a lot, more than we like to admit. Though we overpowered them, all the members from the pack wanted to train themselves and so I made training compulsory.
Evie rushes towards him again and flips and kicks his chest. Charles gets up and rushes towards her, shoving her and making her fall on the ground and go sliding.
Immediately, my claws come out. No one hurts my friend like that! Jasper is shaking with anger now and there are growls from Nathan and Oscar. When Charles goes to hit Evie, she kicks him hard again on the chest which sends him flying and landing backwards.
Evie flips up from the ground to a standing position. With her hand in a tight fist, she screams from the top of her lungs "I hate Silverstone!" and goes running towards Charles and hits him continuously in Karate Chops until he falls to the ground.
There is complete silence for a minute with Evie glaring at Charles who is lying on the ground.
Slowly, she tugs the hair that is covering her face behind her ears and her hands on her hips. When Evie sees us, she was panting and trying to breathe normally.
We are all staring at her in silence with wide eyes and open jaws.
"What? Is my dress okay?" she asks me, wiping dusts from her jeans. That's when I break and start laughing.
"Awesome." I scream and go running to hug her.
"Yeah, nobody can mess with Evie and get away, not even you Peacock!" She screams after parting from me, glaring at Jasper who is staring at her with awe.
There's a look of bewilderment in his face when she calls him peacock.
"That's my girl." We hear someone shouting and turn to look at Donald who has his arms open.
"Daddy!" Evie squeals and goes running towards Donald who has just arrived.
I'm about to go and meet Donald when I hear someone weeping.
I try ignoring all the sound around me and focus on a particular one.
"Each and every one of you is to be blamed. You turned Valerie against us. She was never like this." I hear Amelia sobbing and yelling at someone. "What you did is unforgivable."
"My baby...." She says and pauses, "were you the reason she left the Pack? Did you force her to leave the Pack? Tell me!" my mother continues.
"No... it's not..." I hear Edith trying to reason.
"Liar... you are a bunch of liars. You lied to Valerie and turned her against her own family!" my mother says while growling.
I've had enough of this! She's blaming Edith, blaming my Pack when she is the one to be blamed. I storm inside following the noise and see my mother and Edith in the kitchen, both of them crying.
Edith is sobbing and looking down but she isn't saying anything even when my mother yells at her.
That fumes the anger in me. Edith is such a person who cannot even hurt a fly if she tries to and mother yelling at her is wrong. Totally wrong!
"Enough!" I bellow. I'm growling and my body is shaking with anger.
I storm in and stand between my mother and Edith, glaring at my mother who is staring at me in shock.
"Repeat it." I say to my mother in a threatening tone. My wolf is trying to take over and my claws are out.
"Valerie..." Edith calls me out and when I turn to look at her, she looks scared as hell and immediately steps backwards and runs away from the kitchen.
I turn to look at my mother who also has a horrified look on her face. She starts stepping back until her back touches the wall.
I feel my wolf wanting to come out.
She's gaining control over me. I'm fighting hard not to shift. I fall on my knees and feel my jeans ripping.
No. I cannot lose control. If I do my secret will be out. I'm praying to moon goddess to help me so that I won't shift.
