FAMILIAR SCENT
SHAWN
I push ahead of the second car and I jump out onto the road, standing on all fours in front of them. The Pack Warriors and leaders quickly come to where I am and stands their ground with me, all except Jasper. He is going to get a blow from me later for his actions.
The car stops before hitting any of us. The driver and the passenger are both smirking at us. These shameless bastards!
I growl even louder at them, and then a moment later they press down on the accelerator, spinning out the tires and turns away from us towards the woods on the side of the road. The two other cars follow close from behind them. These guys are definitely crazy. They are driving through unknown woods with a Pack chasing after them! Who in their right minds does that?
'Round up men near the border, I want these mutts dead before they cross the territory,' I ordered and let a snarl flow through the link.
As I chase after the cars, I suddenly noticed something in the hand of the passenger in the first car. It is a large black remote. He points it out the window and presses the big red button on it. The car behind their car blow up in flames a second after the button is pressed, stopping me in my tracks because it is quite close to me. The explosion catapults the car into the air covered in flames, pieces flying off it in all directions.
The door flies off the car towards my direction and I quickly jump out of the way, trying to avoid it. It lands close to my legs covered in flames with a loud bang, but luckily it doesn't injure me. Some of my Pack Warriors aren't so lucky. There are a few that gets injured by the shrapnel and the explosion but even at that, the uninjured ones keep moving and they don't give up on the chase!
I look up in time to see the other two cars crossing my territory with some of my men still chasing after them, before they are forced to stop at the end of our territory. I snarl in frustration to their getting away, but I know if I ever see that smirking son-of-a-bitch again, I would rip him to smithereens!
A car is already waiting for me at the edge of the forest, therefore I shift and enter the car, tugging on a pair of shorts that have been kept in the passenger seat. I slam on the accelerator, clutching the wheel until my knuckles turned white from the strain of my rage. I am beyond mad! I hate the way that man was smirking at me as he hit that red button. It's obvious he came prepared to succeed in his mission and definitely get away!
Carlton informs me through the Pack Link that the car that has been blown up had two men in it that were known to be rogues by some of the members in my Pack.
That smirking moron is crazy! He killed two of his men so as to escape! Aggr! What a sick bastard! I've already asked some of my Pack leaders to alert the nearby Alpha about their approach into his land, so that he'd know they are heading his way.
I look down at the speedometer of the car and realise that I am pushing it to its full speed. I need to calm down. I look up, taking in a deep breath and I notice that I am moving past the Pack's graveyard. I slam onto the brakes and hop out. I walk through the graveyard with a purpose, searching for my mother's headstone. Once I find it, I sit down and try to take in some calming breaths. She always knew how to calm me down when she was alive.
Mommy died when rogues attacked the Pack a couple of years ago. Jasper's father was killed during the same attack, leading his mother to slice her throat open upon seeing the lifeless body of her mate. It was such a hard time for our families!
When my breathing finally returns to normal I get up to my feet. I spot my grandmother's headstone to the left of my mother's and I sigh. She also killed herself last month, stabbing herself in her throat with a knife. Grandma came to see me on the day my father handed me the Alpha title. She told me that she was sad that Valerie had left our Pack and I had to search for her and get her back no matter what it took. She had also given me the silver chain she always wore around her neck and made me promise to give it to my mate.
Grandma was quite normal after leaving the Pack that day, so her suicide was a shock to us, to everyone! She never left a note, but her will had said that all her property was to be given to my mate. She had it all planned out before she took her own life!
I really miss her....I sincerely do! After my mother's death, my grandmother became more like a mother to me. She was quite dear to me and up to date, I still question myself why she saw the need to kill herself!
I say my goodbyes to them and I leave the graveyard. As I place my hand on the handle of my car to get in, Carlton's voice comes through the Pack Link, this time round laced with worry.
'Alpha, another scent can be perceived,' he says.
What is this? Rogue visiting day? I growled loudly after questioning myself.
'At least stop this bunch before they cross the territory,' I order all the Pack Members through the Link using my Alpha tone. 'And Jasper, you better come,' I snap at him specifically.
'Alpha, the smell is mixed,' Clark, another Pack member says in confusion.
'What do you mean mixed?' I ask in frustration. I am getting tired of all these. It's barely eight in the morning and the whole Pack is in a turmoil!
'There are different scents,' Carlton explains.
'Please don't tell me it's sweet!' I snarl, having recalled Jasper's words. A rogue's scent can never be sweet! What is wrong with my Pack today?!
'No Alpha,' He replies.
'Where is it heading to?' I ask, stepping back from my car and shifting quickly into my big black wolf.
'To the south,' Clark says.
'Who is following it?' I ask as I run, heading towards the south.
No one replies.
'I'm asking for the last time, who is following it?' I followed my words up with a growl through the link.
'Err.... Alpha, the smell is on a crowded street. There are humans everywhere,' Clark answers with a shaky voice.
See, what I mean about having power?
'Follow it then,' I snap at him.
'Actually Alpha, it's on a bus filled with humans, and the bus is heading towards the south,' Carlton says.
'What?' I growl at them. I am quite pissed off at everyone now.
A rogue mixing with humans means we can't just go in and attack them. It is a smartly planned move!
'I don't care, stop that bus! I want that rogue!' I yell at them.
'Alpha, the bus has crossed our territory,' Clark says softly.
'I want you all to stop the bus,' I retort and hit a nearby tree, not concentrating on where I am headed to.
'Alpha, the bus was close to the border when we recognised what the scent was. You had blocked us out and Jasper wasn't replying.' Clark defends himself.
'What about Carlton?" I ask. What's the use now? Bullshit!
'Sorry Alpha, I was distracted. I felt like one of scents was familiar,' Carlton answers in worry.
'What do you mean familiar?' I ask him.
'One human scent. It was like I know it. I can't figure it out, but I feel like I know that scent,' he says thoughtfully.
'Pervert, you have a mate,' Jasper says. Finally, he has resurfaced. Bastard!
'My office in 10 minutes,' I say through a growl to Jasper. I really need to kick his ass for his stupidity.
'Yeah, yeah,' he mutters sheepishly.
'Whatever,' I mumble and make my way towards my house, shaking off the leaves and tree barks that have fallen onto my fur.
We have lost the rouge due to the slowness of my Pack, but I'll make sure that the nearby Alpha is informed. Familiar scent my ass! Weirdos!
