SHIFTED IN FRONT OF A NEW PACK
VALERIE
The hot rays of the morning sun were burning my back. I turned sideward, but now the rays were burning my arms.
Groaning I sat up straight and yawned. Even though I got up from a sleep I felt tired, like all energy was drained out of me. I stretched my hands to yawn and that is when I realised I was completely naked. I screamed loudly and covered myself with the blanket looking around the room only to see I was alone in the room.
What the hell happened last night? How did I end up naked in Shawn's bed?
Wrapping the blanket around me I got up from the bed and looked at the pieces of Shawn's shirt in the bed and frowned. What the hell did we do last night?
I slumped on the bed and tried recalling. All I remember was Sheila hurling insults at me and I was very pissed off at her, so pissed that I wanted to kill her!
I closed my eyes and placed my head on the lap and tried recalling but it still didn't help. What did I do last night? But I also decided that I needed to clean myself first.
So I rushed to the bathroom, threw the blanket aside and went to take a bath. I was rubbing the soap on my left arm and then went to rub it on neck when I felt something strange in my neck.
Stupid thing, I couldn't even see what in the world that was. Taking a quick shower I got out of the bathroom and checked my neck in the mirror.
I froze when I saw what it was. A mark. Shawn's mark? Shawn marked me?
"Shawn!" I screamed his name while I was wearing my jeans. Bastard, how dare he? I told him I didn't want to be marked. Then why did he do this?
"Shawn!" I called again louder but there was no response. I checked the entire house but there was no trace of him. I looked again at the mark in the mirror thinking that I was just imagining it, but no, it was there. He really did mark me.
Where the hell was he hiding now?
I couldn't go to the Pack House because they would sense my mark as soon as they see me. I wanted to hunt Shawn and kill him. My wolf growled at me when I thought that.
Stupid female. I am sure she liked being marked by him. But then, how did I let him to mark me? Seriously what the hell happened last night? What did I do last night? Did I kill anyone?
I tried my best to think but it didn't help. I knew a place that would help me and so I ran out of the house to the ocean.
When I was running in the beach I smelled blood. I knew that whosever blood it was it was spilled because of me. Suddenly I got very nervous.
What did I do last night? Where is Shawn? I wanted him. I dived into the ocean and started swimming towards the rocks. The water calmed my nerves and I felt better. All worries were out of my head and I just enjoyed the soothing effect the water had on me.
The water made me strong and all the tiredness was long gone. I was back to being zealous.
I sat on the rock in lotus position and then looked at the waves which were back to being normal.
I sat straight and closed my eyes to concentrate. Everything turned dark around me. A few minutes later, I could see images of Oscar and Sheila kissing, then Oscar hugging me. Sheila standing and staring at me and Oscar, her expression showing betrayal. Sheila running to the beach, crying.
Me standing in the beach with Sheila behind me. I saw myself shifting into my wolf, attacking her, howling, Shawn kicking me off Sheila, Oscar holding Sheila, me running upstairs to attack her and then finally Shawn marking me!
"No one can stop destiny." I heard the moon goddess saying. She was standing next to the pillar which had moon flowers entwined around it. The light emitting from her was so bright that I had to lower my head when I talked to her.
"He knows." I whispered.
"He had to." I heard her soft voice responding. It was then I recalled how it all happened. The last time I connected with her she had told me that Shawn will come to know about me and now he did.
One after the other the incidents happened. Me talking to Jasper, he telling me about Sheila. Both of us planning to get Sheila back. She comes here and then I shifting into my wolf and Shawn coming to know.
I couldn't stop the smile from appearing on my face. The goddess was right, no one can stop destiny.
"What about this mark?" I asked her. Since my white dress was an off shoulder one the mark was obviously visible to her.
"It will be your greatest strength." she replied and I stared at her in bewilderment. "Go now my child, someone needs you." she said to me and then paused for a second before adding. "The evil will send its principal envoy. Be prepared because it is being guided this time."
"Who?" I asked loudly but there was no answer all I could hear was the sounds of waves.
I swam towards the shore and again smelled the blood in the shore. Sheila needs me.
I headed for the Pack house. When I was walking there everyone from my old pack spread apart to make their way for me.
Bloody hell, I forgot how fast gossips spread.
They all bowed their head respectfully at me, Fuck! Some even leant on the ground with one knees and bowed their heads. I tried my best to not growl at them.
It's not like I am a goddess or something.
Scowling at them I made way into the house and felt his presence in the living room. There were many from my Pack along with him. I went upstairs directly only to see Oscar sitting near the door looking like hell.
Guilt eroded over me looking at him like that. It was because of me that he was like this now. If I had hurt him then I have to heal him too.
He raised his head when he sensed my presence and immediately stood up in front of the door glaring at me. I knew he was protecting his mate.
When I took a step towards him he growled at me and I raised my eyebrows.
"I want to see her." I said looking him dead in the eye.
"I won't let you hurt her again!" he said and growled at me. His words pricked me.
"Move Oscar!"
"I meant what I said!" he snarled.
"I will not hurt her." I said quietly hoping he'll listen before I force him out.
"That is not what I saw last night!" he said and I growled loudly. I am his Alpha and he better listen to me.
"Val don't!" I heard Evie whispering from behind but I didn't turn to look at her. I felt Shawn standing behind too but I couldn't face him. He would hate me now.
"Oscar!" I warned him.
"If you want to kill her then you have to kill me first!" he said and I saw the pain in his eyes. I knew apologising won't help and so I didn't try apologising.
"For the last time Oscar, move!" I said through gritted teeth.
"No!" he insisted and I smirked. He growled loudly when he saw that.
"You are forgetting who I am Oscar." I said and he didn't reply. "Fine, Have it my way then." I said and closed my eyes. I heard his growls but I ignored it and tried concentrating on any water source or supply close by.
First thing I sensed was the jug, water purifier, kitchen tap; Cancel because it's too small. Then I heard the bathroom water flowing, ignore cause someone was taking bath. Next was the water tank in the terrace, Perfect.
I focused on the water there and I could hear the tank vibrating.
"What are you doing?" Oscar asked growling at me when I looked at him.
"You asked for it!" I said smirking. I was looking at Oscar but my mind was focused on the water present in that tank. I heard everyone calling me but I didn't respond to them. I didn't know why Shawn wasn't trying to stop me.
When the water was fully under my control I forced it to come out of the tank through the lid without breaking the tank only because I didn't want everyone in the Pack House to go without water for days.
The water was flowing in the air and then coming in through the gallery. The speed, force of the water was everything under my control.
Before Oscar could even realise, I made the water thump on him with full force knocking him out of the window opposite to the gallery. That gave me enough time to step inside the room where Sheila was.
For further security, I used the water as a barrier perfectly fit between the room door and the passage.
I looked at Sheila who was sleeping in the bed with innumerable machines attached to her. I flinched when I saw that. What was my wolf thinking when she was attacking her? Scratch it, what was I thinking?
I stepped closer to her and placed my hands on her chest where I could hear her faint heart beats. Her wolf was refusing to heal all the wounds presented in her body. Her wolf wasn't fighting.
"I am sorry." I whispered and closed my eyes.
The energy started pumping in my heart first and then spread through my veins making my blood hot. It came out from the pores of my skin. The last time I did this was to save Patrick and others when the Pack House was burnt; it was almost six years ago.
A blue ring was formed around me. I saw the wounds in Sheila's body healing and her skin coming back to life. Slowly her heart beat came back to it's normal rate and she stirred a little before opening her eyes.
I pulled my hands away from her chest and looked at her guiltily when she sat up straight.
"What happened?" she asked in a whisper. "How did I-" she cut off looking at the door where the water wall was blocking Oscar. I followed her gaze and smiled when I saw Oscar standing there fully wet.
I loosened the control I had on the water near the door and it splashed all over Keith again. I bit back a chuckle when I saw the expression on his face.
"It was a misunderstanding." I said to Sheila and she looked at me nervously.
Oscar rushed to her side and crashed her against his chest.
"I am so sorry baby." he whispered. "I am really sorry." he said and kissed the top of her head while she was sobbing in his chest.
I looked at them and smiled. Oscar found his mate.
I felt like I was a third wheeler interrupting their private moment and so turned to step out of the door but paused when I met the pacific blue eyes that showed hurt, betrayal and pain.
He was standing there and just staring at me.
"Shawn." I whispered his name. He gave me one last look before turning on his heels and walking away. I felt like someone stabbed my heart with a knife when I saw him walking away.
My eyes felt watery and I blinked letting the tears flow. I couldn't stop the tears at all. For few seconds I was standing and staring ahead. "Shawn." I called again and ran after him but it was too late.
When I reached the door, I saw him driving away in his car. I felt rejected when he walked away.
I fell on the ground in my knees. "I am sorry!" I kept on repeating the words, again and again. But he was gone!
I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder and realized it was Jasper's.
"Shh!" he said and rubbed my arms gently.
"Please ask him to come back!" I said desperately to my brother.
"Give him some time. He'll be back." Jasper said and hugged me. I wrapped my arms around him and broke down crying against his chest.
****
"I am sorry." Sheila said to me.
I was sitting on the couch in our house waiting for Shawn to come back but he hasn't showed up yet. He had left around eleven in the morning and it was eight o'clock in the night now.
"Valerie." she called me and I turned to look at her.
"What?" I asked her frowning.
"Um.... I'm sorry." she said gulping and I nodded at her. Sheila was really scared of me now and can't blame her either.
"I know it was a misunderstanding." I said and turned to look at the driveway.
"I shouldn't have come to conclusions." she said and sighed. "I thought he rejected me." she said referring to Oscar. "I feel terrible for creating a rift between you and Shawn." she continued and I shook my head.
"It isn't your fault. I knew this would have happened sooner or later." I said. But it still hurts a lot. My wolf has been lying sadly inside me. She was seeking for her mate who is not even taking my calls.
"Valerie-"
"Sheila, please, I want to be alone." I said and again turned to look at the driveway.
"Okay!" she whispered and got up from the couch. I looked at Oscar who was sitting opposite to me. He had an apologetic look at his face, in other circumstances I would have asked him to cheer up but right I needed someone to tell me that.
After Oscar and Sheila were gone, I picked up my cell phone and dialed Shawn's no for what seemed like the umpteenth time with the same stupid female's voice saying that his cell phone was switched off.
Throwing the cell phone on the couch, I laid back and closed my eyes. All I could recall was the hurt look in his eyes.
"Shawn." I called his name but he was nowhere and then I started crying, again.
I woke up when I felt someone poking my arms. I got up and rubbed my eyes with the bottom of my palms only to see Evie staring at me with her eyebrows raised.
"Did he come?" I asked her.
"Well good morning to you too!" she said sarcastically. "I think someone kidnapped him last night since your front door was wide open." she continued.
"It has been a day!" I said and tears rolled from my eyes. It was like I had gallons of them stored with me. The last time I cried like this was when I didn't shift on my fifteenth birthday.
"I know, but what are you doing?" she asked me. "I have never seen you cry over any guy!" she said and sat on the couch beside me.
"He is not any guy! He's my mate!" I snapped at her while she smiled at me.
"I know that." she said and sat beside me. "Yesterday, he came barging into the Pack House early morning like a predator and demanded to know everything from me!" she said and I widened my eyes. "I told him everything except the fact that you love him." she said and I frowned at her.
"Don't try denying it. Its obvious." she continued and I poked my tongue at her. I know I am so mature. "By the end he had broken furniture, the television as well as the dining table. He was proud of you, anyone could see that. But it was in my point of view so you tell him again how is it to you when he comes back." she said shrugging.
"But he is not coming back!" I whined.
"He will, when that mate pride of his is relaxed." she said.
"What?"
"Oh come on. He was okay with you being a white wolf and an Alpha, his only problem- he was the last one to know about you." she said like it was no big deal.
"But I lied!" I muttered and Evie tilted her head a little, to think.
"Ha... Okay, you can term it as lying." she said and shrugged again.
"Evie!" I wailed and chuckled a little.
"What? I am serious. He thought him being your mate he had to know the truth first!" she said.
"He is not wrong either." I said and she gave me an I-don't-care-much look.
"Now get up and go take a bath!" she said and scrunched up her nose.
"I don't stink!" I muttered and went to take a bath.
After changing into a red shorts and a green angry birds t-shirt I came downstairs tying my hair in a messy ponytail.
"Show me that." she said looking at my neck. "Wow! Your mark is denser than mine!" she said as she traced her index finger over Shawn's mark.
"I don't even remember him marking me." I said and sat down on the stool in the kitchen.
"I saw it. You calmed down only after he marked you!" she said chewing her bottom lip.
"Was I that desperate to kill her?" I asked myself.
"Even I would have done it if she had spoken such crap about me!" Evie said snappily. Clearly Sheila's name was cut from Evie's good books.
"It was a misunderstanding." I muttered and scowled at her tone.
"But the insults were too much. Being your sister and that too an elder one she should have realised what she is doing is wrong just not let jealousy get over!" she said frowning and turned back to continue cooking. I decided to close the topic after that. Picking up my cell phone I called Shawn again but was greeted by the same annoying voice.
"Why are you calling him again and again when you know he switched off his cell?" Evie asked me and I growled at her.
"I want to talk to him!" I barked and she rolled her eyes.
"Well, he doesn't want to. That's why his cell phone is switched off. He is not taking Jasper's call either." she said and placed the scrambled eggs on a plate. "I swear he was annoyed at Jasper than you!" she said opening the fridge door.
"Why?"
"His beta lied to him." she said in a duh tone.
"Oh goddess! How bad could it be for him?" I asked guiltily and banged my head against the counter. He must have felt so hurt that everyone around him was lying to him and all because of me.
"You know what?" Evie said and I looked up.
"I say wait until lunch and if he is not back by then, you go catch his hair and drag him out from whichever Franklin building he has been seeking refuge. Seriously twenty four hours is more than enough for MIA!" she muttered the last part.
"Can I go now?" I asked her hopefully.
"Wait until lunch." she hissed and placed the plate in front of me.
"I don't want that." I said and pushed the plate aside.
"Eggs?"
"No!"
"Oats?"
"No!"
"Juice?"
"No!"
"Beer?"
"Is it there?" I asked and both of us burst out laughing.
You better come before lunch Shawn or else I will seriously consider dragging you out!
