23. Suspicious Document
AMBER'S POV.
[Are you okay?]
A text message from Vincent bothered ms quite a bit. Benny's attitude a few hours ago, when he said that Halmey was listening to their conversation, echoed all night.
Why did Halmey peek into their conversation? Remembering before I was finally forced to see Vincent, Halmey was pushing too hard. It was as if something Halmey wanted was forcing Asleena.
I hasn't replied to the message, to be precise, she won't respond. I still irritated because of Vincent's arrival which is the reason Halmey scolds her.
At the study table in Halmey's room, I had been daydreaming for an hour. Just tapping the pen on the table. While in front of him, there was a laptop that Roger had just sent using a package. Even a piece of paper containing Roger's message is still stored.
'Dear Miss Amber, here is your work laptop from company. Use it wisely. All work files and other things that have been supervised by Mr. Joshua stored neatly in the laptop. Please take care.'
Why is the tone of his writing so intimidating?
I sighed in exasperation and put down the pen. His back leaned against the back of the chair, then stared at his work laptop.
"Am I really going to be a CEO now?" I muttered.
Since earlier, this laptop has only been opened. Not turned on or used at all. I was too confused to put herself in a position after getting her new title. A CEO?
Dreaming just do not dare. But now it has become a reality.
I turned on the laptop. Waiting for loading for a few moments before the home screen appears. The only thing I wanted to know was what files on this laptop her father had kept secret.
No wonder I didn't realize that her father was a company owner. This work laptop is never home. Also, his father was out of the house more often on the grounds that he delivered a lot of goods.
After the document application is open, quite a lot of incoming files. Everything is divided into several parts. But my eyes were drawn to one of the documents entitled: Suspicious Document.
Suspicious Documents?
My brows furrowed. Without thinking much, I opened the document and saw that there were about forty files displayed. I was a little taken aback at first, but it didn't last long. For a split second, I scrolled through the screen to examine one cover at a time.
There were some that didn't have covers, and it was the documents that caught my attention. One of the document files, which had the number 25 written on it, Asleena opened with both curiosity and worry.
"Unreasonable purchase of project tools?" i asked in her low voice. If you look closely, the writings that appear in this document file indicate the purchase of project equipment which ultimately causes a minus number of losses.
I frowned. "Who buys so many project tools? What's their goal?"
So all this time my father had not revealed his identity because he had to find out about all the company's irregularities?
I propped her chin up, looking at the other document files. Not only purchasing project equipment, but it turns out that there are expenses for project workers. For almost five years they paid costs for project workers that actually exceeded the budget.
I remembered that there were some project workers who deliberately asked for additional costs. Moreover, under the cost of project workers, there is a summary of costs that are all at once for cement, sand, bricks, or other building materials.
After reading that, I felt curious about something. Asleena immediately exited the view of the document files for a moment before then opening the search site page.
I typed into the list page search site: Multinational M.C Tech Building Projects. Soon several news articles surfaced saying that the project building had been abandoned for almost two years. There is no clear continuation since last two years.
'Wait, why is it written in this news that the building project has been stalled for a long time, but there is still a flow of expenditure and income funds for the building?' thought Asleena who suddenly felt something was wrong in her father's company.
I was a little unsure. Feeling that the article she was reading might have been released a long time ago, I moved on to another article. As I read the articles one by one, all the news said that the building project had been abandoned.
"It's so weird to read this news article," I muttered. "They keep buying things for what?"
I watched the computer screen for a few seconds while propping her chin up. On the other hand, zi remembered when Joshua was still alive. Several months before Joshua was involved in a serious accident, he was seen busy in his room and alone in front of piles of documents.
Only now did I realize what Joshua had been up to the past few months.
"Ah... this is why my father is rarely seen at home," zi muttered somewhat annoyed. "No wonder dad looks so busy. I didn't expect that the construction project had been neglected like this."
I took a deep breath. Then took out his cell phone and looked up Roger's contacts.
It wasn't long before Roger answered my phone call. I suddenly straightened up in her seat.
"Good evening, Miss Amber. What's been calling me so late?"
"Look, Roger, I want to ask you something. It's about a building project my father is doing," I answered with some hesitation.
Roger muttered for a long time, he sounded both awkward and curious at the same time.
"Ah, feel free to ask, Miss."
"I checked the document files on my dad's computer. There are two files I found..."
I started to recount the documents she had seen a while ago. As he explained, Asleena was occasionally at a loss as to how to tell Roger. While on the other side of the phone, Roger just listened intently.
"...so, is there no action on the purchase of these items, Roger?"
"It's not inaction, Miss Amber. Master Joshua wants to see what happens next," Roger explained. "Those things do exist in real form. However, the amount of money to buy those things is not that big compared to the amount of money given."
Asleena didn't move, trying to slowly digest what Roger was explaining.
"Wait, let me understand what you're saying. So they're given the funds, but they buy cheap things—those that are of such poor quality that they don't last long.
In other words, those objects deliberately want to break quickly. If it is damaged again, they are given funds repeatedly. Then do the same?"
Roger immediately agreed with Asleena's re-explanation. At that moment, Asleena immediately imagined the actions of the parties responsible for managing the project. Why are they so sneaky?
