30.
VINCENT'S POV.
I sighed as the car pulled up next to my house.
He turned off the engine. I looked at the window of my room, which was still lit. Vincent could already guess that I must not have slept.
I got out of the car, walked slowly away a little while taking out his cell phone, then stood three steps away from the car. He pressed the phone button on Asleena's contact.
As he waited for her to pick up the call, I looked up and watched the bedroom window. Amber did not show her whereabouts.
"Hello," Amber finally called after my phone was picked up.
On the other side of the line, Amber frowned at my sudden call. Amber hadn't expected I to call her at this time of night.
"Miss Amber. Come down from your room now," I said firmly.
Amber was even more astonished. She took a quick glance at her phone screen to stare at it for a moment, then glanced at the clock on the bedside table.
"Wait. What did you say?" I asked in an exasperated tone. "It's late, almost ten o'clock. You came in suddenly and told me to get out of the room."
"I'm taking you somewhere, Miss Amber."
When she heard my question, I felt that her sense of hearing was impaired. But after rubbing her own ears and pinching her hands, she was convinced that this was not a dream.
I was stunned for a split second. Before she couldn't help but laugh sarcastically.
"Jeez, you really have no guilt, huh?" I quipped to me. "You left me a few hours ago, and now you're taking me away again."
The annoyance in Amber tone made me unconsciously curve a small smile. I looked at the window of Amber's room, paused for a moment, then let out a long breath.
"Alright. I apologize for having to leave so suddenly earlier. Now you have to come down, you have to come with me," I said who did not want to be outdone in persuasion.
"No, I don't. Where are you taking me?"
"Dinner with my family."
Suddenly Amber froze after hearing my words. Her body, which had been leaning against the back of the bed, spontaneously stiffened.
"What? Dinner with your family?!" Amber unconsciously raised her voice.
Amber couldn't hide her surprise so I tried to hold back his laughter. When it came to family gatherings, Amber couldn't avoid it.
"You're not deliberately using the excuse of a family meeting, are you? Just to persuade me?" Amber openly showed her suspicion to Benny.
My eyebrows furrowed. He didn't expect that Amber would say that to him.
"Why would I do that?" I finally couldn't help but laugh. "I didn't really want to meet you. But since I left you unexpectedly at the boutique, I felt I should take you to dinner with my family too."
"You mean, this is your apology?"
I nodded. "Yep, that's right. Hurry down-"
"I still don't want to. Why do you enjoy forcing me to do what you want?"
Silent again for a while, I finally sighed heavily. "I know you're upset, but I had to ask you."
"I've forgiven you. Now you don't have to come throwing-"
"I'm already beside your house."
Amber's eyes widened in surprise. She turned to the window, got out of bed and stood behind the window. She pulled back the thin curtains and watched where Benny was.
After finding Benny's whereabouts, Asleena's squinting eyes faded. Her shoulders dropped limply as she grunted in disgust.
"Why didn't you give me any news at all?!" snapped Asleena in an exasperated tone.
That was the last conversation between the two of them.
Benny didn't reply to anything. The phone was hung up abruptly and unilaterally, and he headed for the car again.
Asleena couldn't say anything because the distance between the window of the second floor room and the position of Benny's car was quite far. As a result, she was just gaping at the cell phone screen.
Soon a new message appeared.
[BENNY CEO SUCKS]
[I will go to the front of your house and come to the living room. There's no reason to refuse]
Asleena growled irritably at the phone screen as if it was Benny's face.
"Why does he always do whatever he wants?!" grumbled Asleena.
***
"Are you always like this?"
Benny was taken aback by Asleena's impromptu question just now.
Now Asleena and Benny were in the same car. A few moments ago, Benny had actually come to her house, making Halmey unable to refuse. It looks like Benny already knows how to get Asleena to come along.
"You deliberately told my aunt and made me unable to refuse. You know that my aunt won't argue with you," Asleena said, continuing her complaint.
Benny secretly pulled one corner of his lips into a small smile. Benny didn't look at Asleena at all, but could imagine the scowling look on the woman's face.
"Always like what?" she asked.
"Treating others as you please," Asleena replied curtly. One hand rested on the car window and rested on the left side of her jaw.
Hearing that, Benny was silent for a moment. He was well aware of Asleena's irritated mood. But the guilt in his heart couldn't go away either - and it made him very uncomfortable. Benny remembered the look of pleading and annoyance in Asleena's eyes when she was with Bella.
That's why Benny deliberately asked his family to wait for Asleena's arrival. Of course no one refused. Because Benny's grandfather will also be very enthusiastic about Asleena's arrival.
"You come forcing others to come with you, when I take the time, you just have sudden business and leave. Now you come again suddenly and force me to come with you," grumbled Asleena who again brought up her annoyance.
Benny kept his eyes on the road in front of him. There was no reaction on his face at that moment.
"So what, you're going to marry me, so you have to get close to my family too." Benny gave another reason.
Asleena was fed up with hearing the umpteenth excuse Benny gave. He took out the glass from the overhead dashboard, and Asleena looked in the mirror.
"Did you see my face? Did I show concern?" Asleena asked, pointing to her own face.
"Woah, you already feel that this is your car?" asked Benny sarcastically. His lips twitched in annoyance.
Asleena unconcernedly closed the upper dashboard glass. Her hands were folded again in front of her chest.
"Hey, Benny, aren't you thinking of canceling our wedding plans?"
The sudden question startled Benny. His gaze immediately turned to Asleena, dumbfounded in disbelief. Benny instantly remembered the conversation about canceling the wedding plans at the hospital earlier. Why did Asleena's question coincide so well with that discussion?
"Asleena, why did you mention the question of canceling the wedding plan?" Benny looked at Asleena as if he wanted to know why she had asked that question.
Asleena was actually very curious since Rogger told her that Benny was seeing another woman. Moreover, a woman who was already close to him. The only thing that came to her mind a moment ago was... did Benny actually love that woman, but because of the agreement between Asleena's father and Benny's grandfather, Benny's love was not realized?
Unfortunately, Asleena's curiosity could not be fully expressed. Asleena knew that Benny would definitely suspect her.
How could Asleena admit that she gave Rogger the order to spy on Benny.
"It's okay. I was just thinking about it. You don't want our marriage-"
"Miss Asleena. I told you when we were at the boutique a few hours ago. Are my explanations and answers still not enough for you?" Benny immediately cut Asleena off.
Asleena sighed heavily. "I mean, you don't love me. Don't you have someone you love?"
Benny was silent for an instant.
The sudden silence between the two of them made Asleena suspicious of Benny. At that moment Asleena looked back at Benny, realizing that the look on the man's face beside her had changed to imply uneasiness.
"Someone you might have been with and loved before. But you couldn't be together because you were forced to deal with the contract of our marriage plan?" Asleena repeated, deliberately making it clear to Benny.
Still no answer.
Benny lifted one corner of her lips to smile wryly. It was only fleeting, but Asleena noticed the smile. Like he had just remembered something.
"I have, but I can't tell you."
