33.
AMBER'S POV.
i sat in my CEO chair while letting out a rough breath. Ever since her conversation with Vincent, I had been feeling very uneasy for some reason.
There were too many mysterious things that Asleena did not understand. Also, I didn't expect her father to keep this whole messy situation to himself. How could he?
Throughout my life, she had never found out anything about what Joshua was doing. Even when Joshua rarely came home and hung out with the family-so much so that Joshua's promises to Asleena were often broken, I didn't think of any bad possibilities.
Now, I regrets it. If I had found out about Joshua's suspicious behavior and his lack of family gatherings, she might not have faced so many puzzles.
Or... if Vincent hadn't been so mysterious, then she wouldn't have had to guess.
I looked giddily at the documents piled up on the table. Right in front of her eyes. On the other hand, I was also thinking about her suspicions of the company's financial manager.
"Miss Amber-"
"Oh my, I'm surprised!" I straightened her seat and acted alertly. But after realizing it was Rogger, I immediately relaxed my shoulders again. "I didn't know it was you who came into my room, Rogger."
Rogger, who had been surprised at my reaction, finally relieved himself. After that Rogger signaled a question asking for permission to enter.
I nodded and glanced at the front of her desk, telling Rogger to come in.
Rogger's steps moved towards my desk. On the other hand, I immediately noticed what Rogger had brought.
"You didn't bring any more document folders?" I asked.
Rogger shook his head. "No, Miss Amber. I just brought a letter that someone gave me personally to the receptionist in the company lobby."
Asleena was confused. She had no idea who might have sent the letter.
"Letter?" Again I was silent, thinking and remembering recent events. "I've never met anyone who would send me a letter."
"I don't understand either, Miss Amber. Actually, the receptionist had asked the person to leave it with a special mail carrier, but the sender of this letter really wanted it to be taken care of personally."
Rogger's explanation piqued my curiosity. I immediately extended one hand, asking Rogger to hand her the letter. After I got the letter, she opened it deftly.
The envelope was already open, I took a piece of letter paper, then let the writings there be displayed. Asleena seriously read the words on the letter.
[Miss Amber,
We haven't seen each other in a while. You know, I was looking forward to the moment when we would face each other. You're still looking for me right now, aren't you? I know your efforts will be very strong after getting this letter to find me. Miss, don't ask too many questions about who I am. Since you've witnessed what happened to your parents, you should know that there are boundaries you have to set.
How about you just let your company go bankrupt? I really don't mean you any harm. But unfortunately your father, Joshua, bullied me first. So if you try anything, don't blame me for what happened to you]
I was shocked to read the caption on this letter. Her heart was suddenly racing. She felt uncomfortable. From the language used in this letter, Asleena knew that the sender was the company traitor she was looking for.
My entire body tensed up. Her memory immediately went back to her parents' accident after reading that offending sentence. I vividly remembers, before her consciousness-which had traveled with her parents-completely disappeared, there was a very clear irregularity.
Joshua's car suddenly lost control and spun around. The tires of the car felt slippery as if they were driving on asphalt covered with abundant oil. Finally, Joshua's car hit a car from the opposite direction, then was pushed so far that it hit the metal road divider hard.
Instantly I felt as if her heart was stabbed very strongly. Remembering the accident made her imagine Joshua's face in pain.
Asleena's vision slowly blurred as the tears pressed against her eyes. Her heart was tight at that moment.
"Miss Asleena?" Rogger reprimanded me after noticing the change in his boss's face.
I was still silent and lost in thought. Memories of the accident were replaying in her head. As they became more intense, Asleena's head became dizzy. Asleena immediately shook her head and placed the letter unceremoniously on the table.
"Argh... gosh," I complained while holding her own forehead. She also tried to pat her forehead to make the memory disappear. "Why do I have to... have to remember... that?"
Seeing my distressed condition, Rogger immediately stepped around the desk. His movements hurriedly approached me who was still groaning while lowering her face.
"Miss Asleena? Miss!" Rogger reprimanded Asleena repeatedly from the side.
I remained silent as Rogger grabbed one of her wrists.
"Rogger... you check that letter." I pointed at the letter in between trying to get the bad memories out of her head.
Suddenly Rogger's gaze shifted to the letter on the table. Rogger picked up the letter with a mixed expression of panic, curiosity, and suspicion.
"I haven't had a chance to read this yet, Miss Amber," Rogger said, informing her.
There was no reply from me.
Meanwhile, Rogger read the letter. There was a pause of a few seconds for Rogger to let his brain digest all the sentences. His forehead furrowed as he realized that the sentences in this letter contained threats.
Rogger was dumbfounded, then turned his gaze back to Asleena. Now he understood why Asleena had been acting like a nervous wreck.
"Who sent you this letter?" Rogger voiced in a furious tone. He clenched his jaw, exasperated.
In front of Rogger, Asleena had begun to compose herself. But with a somewhat haggard expression, Asleena looked at Rogger.
"Rogger, don't find out who-"
"I can't, Miss Asleena. He's already started sending these threats to her." Rogger cut in immediately.
Asleena, who was trying to remain neutral, shook her head. "No, don't. I know you're very annoyed with the sender of this letter. But... we shouldn't look for him."
After a moment of silence, Asleena replied, "He already knew that I was going to look for him, even before I started the action. that means the culprit is close to us."
This time it was Rogger who remained silent. He was at a loss for words.
"If he's close to us, we have to be careful not to arouse his suspicion," Asleena continued. "Let's move slowly. Don't follow your anger, Rogger."
Rogger sighed heavily. His anger gradually subsided after hearing Asleena's words.
"All right, Miss Asleena. But don't forbid me from protecting you."
"Of course."
"And don't harbor anything alone."
