51.
VINCENT'S POV.
"Why did you ask me to meet you when the work was done?" I asked after sitting down in front of Asleena.
Asleena immediately curved her enthusiastic smile at me. Asleena deliberately hid her anxiety from Benny so that he wouldn't get suspicious and worry about her.
"I just wanted to see you," Asleena replied with a small laugh at the end. "What if I don't want to see you?"
I immediately shook his my after hearing Asleena's words.
"Of course you can. Who's forbidding you to see me?" I asked with a joking laugh. "I was just asking a question. I didn't mean to offend you."
Asleena just chuckled when she heard my answer. Asleena actually didn't mind my question, nor did she feel offended. Her question a few moments ago was only asked as a joke to me.
"I know you can't forbid me from seeing you. Because if we don't meet, you will definitely miss me," Asleena replied in a teasing tone. Both eyebrows rose and fell to support Benny's mocking gesture.
Hearing Asleena's words made me snicker, his lips mocking the woman in front of him now. But even so, I still curved my smile because he was amused by Asleena's behavior.
"Hey, how's your dad's company? Is it going well?" I asked. His tone was now starting to sound serious, unlike before.
Asleena propped up her chin using both clenched hands, seemingly thinking for a moment. She remembered the meeting that happened a few hours ago. Actually in that meeting, she received several reports of internal problems. But not as bad as when Asleena discovered the case of her company's financial manager who embezzled funds.
"Of course there are problems. Just like any other company. But I'm not at all bothered or burdened by them," Asleena replied casually.
I looked at Asleena seriously and intensely as if he wanted to find out whether she was lying or not.
"Are you being casual because you're not burdened or are you just trying to hide your feelings from me?" I asked with a curious look on his face. He didn't know why he felt uncomfortable whenever Asleena told him stories like that.
"I don't know why you or Roger always suspect me like that whenever I say I'm fine," Asleena said with an annoyed grumble.
I chuckled at Asleena's exasperated words.
"Because we have to take care of you and make sure you're okay. Hey, did you know that your father left you to us?" I asked, flashing a small smile.
After saying that, it wasn't long before I felt something suspicious. I instantly changed my expression to a flat one as the thought crossed his mind.
"Wait. Why did Roger make sure you were okay?" I asked his question. "Was there something that made Roger ask about your condition, and then he wasn't sure if you were okay?"
Instantly Asleena felt panic rise in her heart. Asleena was suddenly awkward and clumsy for a few moments, watching me who suddenly looked at her sharply. Asleena had no idea that Benny would think of something like that. That detailed.
Not wanting to talk about Robert giving her the box, Asleena finally let out a long sigh. Asleena tried to let herself relax as she silently looked at me strangely.
"If you want to know, Roger asked about the same thing as you. Because he saw my gloomy expression after listening to the report on the company's internal problems," Asleena replied, not entirely lying.
"Of course I looked gloomy immediately after the meeting. How could I stop my mind from automatically thinking about the solution to the problem?" Asleena continued to explain at length. She actively moved her hands to let me know she was serious.
I sighed heavily after hearing what Asleena said.
"Right, I've felt that since becoming CEO. That's why I'm checking with you to see if you're really okay or not," I replied later. The seriousness of his facial expression and his suspicion faded slowly.
Asleena secretly grimaced after witnessing my reaction. She felt guilty about lying to him, but in reality, she couldn't be honest. Asleena didn't want me to feel uneasy if he found out about Robert.
Maybe for the time being, Asleena would let what was happening go unnoticed by Benny. Asleena didn't want to discuss the issue of Robert in more detail. Together with Benny, Asleena just wanted to enjoy a more pleasant moment. Not discussing the problems about Robert.
"I understand. You and Roger both care about me," Asleena replied while arching a smile full of confidence.
"I care about you more than Roger, especially since Robert is your ex-boyfriend," Benny said in an annoyed tone.
Asleena chuckled at Benny's words. Benny's tone when mentioning Robert's name sounded so irritated, either because he had seen Robert's figure or was still nervous about Robert's words.
"No need to think about Robert, Benny. You're even better than Robert. I can't just change my feelings and like the irresponsible Robert," Asleena said with a hint of irritation.
Benny smiled an amused and satisfied smile. He couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction when Asleena chose him. Even calling her better than her ex-boyfriend.
At that moment Benny realized that he really loved Asleena. Benny didn't understand why his feelings for Asleena had now changed drastically compared to before. Maybe it was because they were used to solving problems together that the feelings in Benny grew slowly.
"Never mind, there's no need to remember Robert. He's not important to discuss," Benny replied while waving his hands in exasperation.
Asleena smiled amusedly at Benny as she frowned.
"You're the one who started mentioning Robert, Benny," Asleena replied with joking exasperation.
Benny finally tapped his forehead and laughed amusedly - laughing at himself.
"Oh my. I forgot that I started it first," Benny retorted guiltlessly.
Asleena let out a rude sigh with an exasperated look at Benny. But even so, Asleena also felt that it didn't matter.
"I should have known that you were such a dork," Asleena retorted while laughing at Benny.
Benny nodded his head while laughing jokingly. Benny then averted his eyes when he saw a waiter coming to their table.
"Please, here's your food order," said the waiter carrying the tray.
Asleena and Benny looked at the plates of food placed on their table. After waiting for a while, they finally got ready to eat their food.
Asleena took one of the plates of food she had ordered.
"Shall we talk about the marriage contract?" asked Benny.
Suddenly Asleena's movements stopped after hearing Benny's question. Asleena looked at Benny with a dumbfounded, confused, and surprised expression. She was already feeling uncomfortable, but seeing Benny smiling and implying a plan made her feel strange.
"Discussing the marriage contract?" Asleena asked again. She was confused. Also somehow worried that Benny would extend or cancel the marriage contract between the two of them. "What do you mean? Why do you suddenly want to discuss our marriage contract?"
Benny curved his sweet smile, as if there was nothing as alarming as Asleena thought. Benny then moved slowly to take Asleena's hand to grip it gently.
"I actually don't know if I can tell you this or not..."
Benny's words hung for a while. At the same time, the look on Benny's face gradually turned serious.
Asleena's heartbeat quickened. Asleena thought and imagined what Benny would say now.
"I don't know why I'm thinking of canceling our marriage contract."
