43.
VINCENT'S POV.
I and Amber's car had stopped in front of the nightclub building.
Amber and me got out of the car in a hurry. There were two other police detectives, Jack and Richard, following them from the car behind. Jack and Richard ran with Asleena and Benny to enter the nightclub.
Showing their police IDs, we were able to enter following the two detectives. The sound of pounding music could be heard clearly as they stepped deeper into the nightclub.
I occasionally covered her ears as she followed me. I deliberately didn't want to step too far apart because everyone here was very drunk. Some were even dazed and bumped into Asleena's body until she was almost unsteady.
Amber and I searched for the VIP area. It turned out that Delbaran was already there, the man suspected of spreading photos of Asleena and me to the media.
Then Amber and me immediately went to the VIP area with two other police detectives. Their arrival caused panic on the VIP couch. The three women who were hired to have fun and get drunk together immediately got up from the men's laps.
One of the six men was Delbaran. The man looked frantically at the two police detectives who came to him.
"What are you doing?" Delbaran sounded unhappy. He held both his hands back from being grabbed by Jack and Richard.
Jack and Richard did not care about Delbaran's resistance. They continued to force Delbaran to hold out his hands.
"Sebastian Walton Aldebaran, you are under arrest for defamation and violation of privacy laws. You may hire a lawyer and have the right to remain silent during the interrogation process..."
"What the hell! Why are you arresting me without any evidence?! I've done nothing wrong!" Delbaran continued to rebel as the handcuffs were applied by Jack and Richard.
"You can talk all you want at the police station," Richard replied, then let out a harsh sigh after the handcuffs were fully in place on Delbaran's hands.
After Jack and Richard had finished attaching the handcuffs, Delbaran immediately turned his gaze towards Asleena and Benny. Seeing the arrival of Asleena and Benny made Delbaran arch a grin.
"Did you bring the police to arrest me?" Delbaran quipped to Asleena and Benny.
Benny, who had both hands on his waist, watched Delbaran with a look of disbelief on his face. Asleena, on the other hand, didn't know what to say because she was so shocked.
"I didn't expect someone like you," Benny said after a few moments of silence. "It's lucky you were so easy to find. Do you really want to ruin your own life just for temporary pleasure?"
Delbaran was forced to his feet by Jack and Richard. The lopsided grin still curved his face, and Delbaran stood up with a slight stagger.
Delbaran immediately laughed sarcastically. "I won't listen to a word you say," he replied deliberately mocking Benny. "How surprising that you managed to find me, Mr. Benny."
Benny realized that Delbaran felt no guilt at all. Just from Delbaran's gestures and manner of speaking, Benny somehow suspected that someone was backing him up. But at that moment Benny wanted to get rid of the thoughts of bad possibilities in his head first.
"I wonder if you're doing this because you want to or if someone told you to?" Benny quipped.
Unfortunately, Delbaran did not want to answer Benny's question. Delbaran immediately forced the two police detectives on his right and left to take him away.
Before Delbaran actually walked away from Asleena and Benny, Delbaran paused for a moment. Next to Benny, Delbaran gave a sweet smile and whispered something.
"You should know that I'm not the only one doing this."
***
"From the perpetrator Delbaran's cell phone, we found phone conversations and messages two days before Miss Asleena's accident. Everything has been investigated, and we will provide the number and address of the last person contacted."
That was Jack's explanation a few hours ago.
Asleena was still imagining Jack's explanation given to her and Benny. She had a bad feeling. After hearing that explanation, Asleena felt that her parents' accident was related to the defamation case and the traitors in the Hudge Group.
Will Asleena soon find out who the traitor is?
"Don't worry, we'll find that person." Suddenly Benny spoke, breaking the silence between the two of them.
Beside Benny, Asleena was somewhat jolted out of her reverie. Asleena looked at Benny with an awkward look. She really didn't feel like saying anything right now.
Asleena just let out a rough breath and looked back at the road in front of her.
"What do you know about my feelings?" Asleena grumbled back at Benny.
Benny actually felt bad for seeing Asleena's sadness.
"Of course I don't fully understand. But, will you continue to feel sad when you find the culprit?"
"I just thought of my parents," Asleena replied. Her tone was slow and languid. "If he hadn't done that, I might still be with my parents."
Benny was silent. For some reason he felt uncomfortable hearing Asleena speak like that. Whereas before Benny did not want to care too much about Asleena. However, why now it felt uncomfortable to see Asleena showing her sadness.
"Asleena, we're going to catch someone who has destroyed your family," said Benny who tried to calm Asleena down.
Asleena's eyes turned to Benny. Asleena was silent for a moment, watching Benny who occasionally looked back at her. There was a small smile on Benny's face that made warmth creep into Asleena's heart slowly.
"Hey, are you really trying to calm me down?" Asleena asked, smiling amusedly. "Or are you just feeling uncomfortable because it turns out that Bella also contributed to the spread of photos of the two of us?"
Benny was a bit confused on how to answer Asleena's question. The situation between them became silent for a moment. There was a pause that made them both feel awkward towards each other.
"If I had known that Bella also contributed to the spread of this photo, I would have prevented it from the beginning. That woman..." Benny stopped his words. The look on his face seemed to hold back irritation, but in the end Benny just let out a rough sigh through the breath of his mouth.
Asleena remained silent.
"... she never listens to anyone," Benny continued. Considering that Bella had always taken unexpected actions.
It was not the first time Benny knew Bella was willing to do harmful things just to get his attention. Bella will not stop even though she has received warnings from Benny and her own parents.
Now, Benny felt Bella had crossed the line. Asleena is completely innocent but has to be involved in the problem of spreading photos of the two of them.
"I feel guilty for the way Bella treated you," Benny said. This time, unlike before, Benny showed his guilt to Asleena.
Asleena frowned. There was a sense of disbelief watching Benny who looked different than usual.
"Why are you acting like this?" Asleena smiled and held back her laughter. It felt really strange and awkward. "It's not your fault, Mr. Benny. You shouldn't have to apologize for other people's mistakes."
Benny curved his lopsided smile. "So, what do you want me to do? If I don't apologize, you'll blame me too."
"Who's going to blame you?" asked Asleena, not accepting the accusation. "Don't think bad things about me. For today, you're not annoying."
Before Benny could answer Asleena, he heard the phone ring. Instantly the conversation between the two of them stopped. Benny and Asleena both looked at each other with very curious expressions.
Finally Benny took the cell phone out of his pants pocket. His hands were still holding the steering wheel. Benny watched the name of someone who appeared as a caller.
"Mama's on the phone," Benny told him.
Gradually the smile on Asleena's face faded. Asleena imagined the figure of Kathrine who had still not been warm to her.
"What will your mother say?" Asleena asked. For some reason, she began to feel worried.
