The Monster
It was later that night; I was sat on my bed with everything that Jackson and I had printed off earlier. It took much longer than expected, we had to make two copies of everything because Jackson wanted to take one home so he could have a look in his spare time. Thankfully, we had finished and packed everything away before my mother got home.
When she got in the door, something was different. Not looks wise but the way in which she was acting, I don't see my mother much so I can't really tell the signs. But when I looked over at Jackson, he was giving her the same look as I was. Once he left, I was going to ask her, but she went straight to her room, and I haven't saw her since. This did worry me that something bad could have happened to my dad, but I knew she isn't that self-absorbed to keep that sort of information from me.
I was just looking over the file that contained information about Mario's past, I knew bits and pieces anyway because Jackson gave me a little rundown when I locked him out of the kitchen. But looking at this, gave me all the information that I could have asked for. It says Mario is the oldest child of 9 children, his mother Catia, was a single mother who had to steal to make ends meet. With the first crimes that Mario ever committed, I'll have to take a guess and say his mother has rubbed off on him.
She was put in prison when Mario was 13, before he could be taken into care, he ran for it. He lived on the streets for years which is where he was able to bring his criminal record to what it is today. He hasn't seen any of his siblings since they were all put into care, or even his mother doesn't want to know.
In reading this, I start to feel bad for Mario due to everything that he had to go through. Yes, I know he has my father, which makes me hate his guts and want him to pay no matter what. But you can see that he didn't have the best start in life, the odds were stacked against him and his family which gave him no choice but to live the life that he does. I think now I've seen this; the monster has become more human to me.
Before I could read anymore, my door begins to knock which instantly, makes a bit of panic set in. I quickly round up the files and shove them under my bed, while realising how suspicious it would be if I was just sat in bed staring at the door. I look over and see a few books that one of the agents gave me, they said I'll be having a lot of downtime so these would come in handy. I open the book up to a page near the front, also doing this intentional just in case she has read this book and asks me questions.
Once I was ready in position, I shout for her to come in before my eyes stay on the random page that I found. In seconds, the door opened, and my mum pops her head in looking at me.
'I was just coming in to check if you were hungry, I know when I came in, I went straight to my room?" She asks still halfway in the room; I look away from my book and send her a smile.
'No, I'm okay thank you, Jackson and I had a huge lunch, it doesn't look like it, but man can that guy eat!" I exclaim with a little laugh, but I'm not lying that man can put food away, while he's eating, I'm always scared his going to choke!
'I could have told you that." She laughs a little but does look down at the ground, this alone telling me that whatever was bothering her when she came home is still on her mind.
'Is something wrong, I only ask because when you came home from work, you didn't seem like yourself?" I ask placing the book that I wasn't actually reading down, but from the sentence that I did read, it seems okay.
'I'm okay, something happened at work that knocked me back for a second, but I don't want to bring you down." She says but I could tell by her face that she wanted to tell me but didn't want to worry me at the same time. 'I do have something for you." She says walking further into the room with two boxes in her hands, this time a smile on her face as she went.
She walks over to the bed and hands them to me; I send her a smile placing one box down so I could see what it was. When I open up the first box, I see it was a phone, I look a little confused up at her.
'To get anywhere in this world you need some kind of connection to the outside world, I thought it wouldn't be fair to you if you didn't have anything to distract yourself." She says which does make me smile and pull open the second box where a laptop sat, she didn't have to get me all of this. 'As you probably already know, you still can't have any contact with anybody that isn't already in the phone, all the contacts that you will need are in there." She smiles placing her hands behind her back, but her comment did make me sigh.
'Let me guess, you and Jackson?" I ask with a sarcastic look; it wasn't hard for me to figure out the short list of people.
'And Reece, you couldn't guess them all could you?" She asks with a little laugh as her phone starts ringing, she sighs pulling it out which only makes her sigh once again. 'Duty calls." She says with a little smile before turning around to walk out the door. But I stop her before she could.
'Don't you get a break, you know to eat, sleep and be a human?" I ask which sounded like the basic needs, but when she sends me a shake of her head my mind as blown.
'Not for me, but that doesn't mean you can stay awake, get some sleep." She smiles before answering the phone and closing my door, while I sat there still quite shocked.
'Maybe she doesn't live the perfect life." I say out loud looking down at the brand-new phone in my hand.
