Nightmare
We spent hours at the base with Allison, I think it's the longest I've been at that place since this whole situation begun! Allison was explaining what had happened with Mario and where she has been staying, it sounds terrifying but also, Jackson and I were right on what our investigation was telling us.
According to Alison, the night of her engagement to Derek, they headed to a hotel room which Derek had booked for them. She thought they would have a lovely evening until she walked into the bathroom, Mario stood there with an evil smile on his lips.
As Alison had been working tirelessly on the case alongside my mother, she knew who he was straight away. He congratulated her on her engagement to Derek, but also told her things weren't going to be the fairytale she had dreamed off. Before she knew what was happening, Derek comes up behind her and slipped her what she suspected was chloroform to cause her to pass out. When she finally awoke, she was in the little shed place Jackson, and I had found her in.
She kept up with the act that it wasn't Jackson and me which found her, this taking any suspicions my mother had of us working this case away, not that I think she has any reason to suspect us anyway. As for Derek, he has been arrested and according to Jackson, may be taking a plea deal which will shorten his sentence to some capacity.
When we arrived back to Jackson's, it was in the early hours of the morning, and I was exhausted. Alison ended up coming back to Jackson's with us, he didn't want her to be alone after just returning home which I completely understood. When I walked down the stairs after getting ready, they were both stood in the kitchen with their cups of coffees having a conversation.
'I'm sorry if I'm interrupting your conversation." I say as they both stop when they saw me, Alison smiles while Jackson shakes his head also smiling.
'Don't worry Ally, we were just discussing your little investigation and what you've uncovered so far." She smiles as Jackson hands me a cup of coffee, I send him a smile as a thank you before taking a seat at the counter. 'I'm so grateful you guys took matters into your own hands and found me, I don't know how much more I could have taken living in that place." She sighs looking down at her coffee as she went, it's clear to everyone that she went through so much while under Mario's control.
'You don't have to worry about him anymore, Derek is where he belongs, and Mario will soon follow. If the big guys aren't able to catch him, the underdogs will have it covered." Jackson smiles placing his hand on Alison's shoulder before looking over at me, I smile rolling my eyes whilst leaning back in my chair.
'Talking of underdogs, what's the next steps?" I ask taking a sip of my much-needed coffee, this question causes Jackson to perk up whilst placing his cup down.
'That Miss Carter, is a very good question." He says taking my hand and pulling me into the living room, where our board of information stood. 'The hotel sent me over all the documents regarding the two hotel rooms which Mario booked out, they require information surrounding the person and surprisingly, he didn't use a alias." Jackson explains pulling a piece of paper from the board, perhaps the first thing I should do when I wake up in the morning is read this board, it seems Jackson works through the night.
I begin to skim read though the document, it had Mario's name and his date of birth on the page. But what stood out to me was the little address right at the bottom, he wouldn't have been stupid enough to put his real address would he?
'I did a background check on the address in question, and it seems to be rented out to Catia Richmen." Jackson smiles which did cause my eyes to grow wide, I look up at him with a very confused look.
'Mario's mother, I'm sure that's not the same address we visited the day we found the box hidden." I say where he shakes his head telling me it wasn't, could he be using his mother's name on this address to cover his tracks?
'It has been under her name for years, the rent his been payed each and every month without fail. But that isn't the only suspicious thing, we could speculate that it's Mario using his mother's name to avoid detection. But the rent is payed from the account belonging to Mario's mother where all her other pulls get payed." He says dropping the last bombshell, I was at a total loss for words.
When we went to see Catia and talk about Mario, she was very persistent on the fact that she hadn't see Mario for years and doesn't want anything to do with him. But if she's paying rent on a house he has used at some point, that statement can't fully be true.
'This is all looking quite bad but to try and look at it from another angle, what if his mother has had this house for many years and can't bear to part with it. As you said, the neighbours say she only leaves the house to when she needs to, perhaps this house holds some sentimental value to her, so she keeps it just in case one day, she wants to go back. As you also know, Mario booked those hotel rooms around the time Alison got engaged, he hid that box of things in his mother's house around the same time. What if he just knows his mother has that house?" I ask trying to make Catia seem not a part of it, I had a nice chat with her the day we visited her, for some reason I don't want her to be involved.
'You have a good detective brain Ally, however, I looked into the house further and got in contact with one of my buddies who owes me a favour. Well, they headed to that house last night and took some pictures, look who came walking in and out of the house." He smiles now handing me over a selection of photos, I take a look down to see Mario with two other guys going to and from the house with different items in his hands, even holding things in black bags.
'Let's go! We know where he and all his buddies have been hiding, let's go there now!" I say throwing all the papers onto the table, this is the last piece of information that we needed to bust this guy!
'Ally, you know it's not that simple." Jackson says but I wasn't listening to what he was saying, this could be the final thing which leads me to my father.
'It can be, we can head down there and stop him!" I say walking over to the front door, but before I could open it up to leave, Jackson stands in front closing the door. 'Jackson, why are you stopping me? You've been trying to track him down longer than I have, he took you sister away from you! Wouldn't you want to see him pay?!" I say growing a little annoyed that he wasn't running out of the house with me, what if Mario finds out we know and is already moving my father?
'Of course, I want him to be caught and to pay for everything he has done, but there is a way to do these things Ally. We can't just walk into where he is and take him, if this is where he lives more permanently, just imagine the type of weapons he has stashed there. We don't know what we'll be walking ourselves into, we have to be smart about this." He says pulling me away slightly as I went for the door again, but tears begin to well in my eyes as I looked back at him.
'But he has my dad, Jackson." I start to cry, the tears beginning to roll down my cheeks as I did so. Just the thought of what my dad has had to go through, it just breaks my heart.
'I know Ally and we're going to find him." He says now placing his hands on either side of my face, looking me right in the eyes as he spoke. 'We have come so far in this case already, if we go there all guns blazing and he makes a run for it, that will have all been for nothing. As hard as it is, we have to take this slow and take the many precautions that we do to keep us safe. I promise, we will find your father and bring him home soon." He says still looking me in the eyes, hearing my dad coming home fully causes me to break down.
Jackson pulls me closer to him whilst wrapping his arms around me, my head on his chest as we stood by the door crying.
I just want this nightmare to stop.
