Something Special
Jackson and I talk for hours going over my plan, the first thing we needed to get hold of was all the files that my mum and her team have on this Mario dude. Then we'll be able to have the same information that they have, which will make it a level playing field.
I told him my plan which at first, he didn't like and said there were far too many things that could go wrong. So, I asked him, what his alternative idea was but he didn't have one, so in the end we went with my plan. I can just hear all of you asking me, what the heck is this plan?!
Well, every morning, Jackson has to go into the office to sign things to say he will be with me all day. I have no idea why that's a thing, apparently, he has no idea either! But anyway, while he's in there he's going to talk his way into the building more and head to the filing cabinet that Reece kept leaning against. Now I'm thinking about it, could that be why he was so insistent on standing right up against it?
Jackson will take a photo of each and every file before heading out, when he gets here, we'll print them all off, so we have the physical copies of everything we need to know about Mario.
Now while Jackson is doing mission impossible, I will be at home trying to stall my mother no matter what. Jackson said she wouldn't leave without him being there, but she might start to make calls where people will look for him and find him doing what he shouldn't. So, I had the task of stopping her from doing that, which will be equally hard as what Jackson is doing!
I woke up super early the next morning, once Jackson left last night I just went to bed. I knew my mother would want to talk about what happened yesterday, which was something I didn't want to happen but also, while we're talking about that in the morning, that will take up most of the time. I get ready for the day before slowly walking downstairs, I was nervous she would be able to see that I was hiding something and ask me what's happening. I had to put a kind of wall up so she wouldn't see, but with the line of work that my mother does, I knew this next task was going to be hard.
As I walk down the stairs, I hear her messing around with things in the kitchen. I take a deep breath in before walking into the kitchen, where she looks up at me shocked.
'Ally, you're awake early." She tells me before turning back to cooking, I nod my head walking over to sit at the counter trying to prepare myself to stall as much time as I could.
'There isn't much else for me to do at the moment." I say with a sigh to add affect, this does make her also sigh and turn to look over at me for a second.
'I know you're not very happy that I'm forcing you to stay home, but it's too dangerous for someone like you to be out there." She says with a little smile, but her comment only causes me to grow annoyed.
'Somebody like me?" I ask not really understanding what she was trying to tell me, I'm unsure if that was a kind of dig or not.
'Well, you don't have the training that me or Reece has, I don't want you getting yourself involved where either you can get hurt or someone else." She explains adding seasoning to whatever she was making, which only reminds me of what my dad was doing the last time that I saw him.
'How did you keep what you really do from dad, I mean you guys have been together since you were in school?" I ask looking up at her again, now I was thinking about my dad that's all I could think to talk about.
'I didn't know I wanted to do this when I was in school, I didn't actually know what I wanted to do in life at all. That was until I went to college, as you know your father was destined to do great things, so he went to a very high-end college, while I just went to a simple like college that was close to his." She starts to explain while taking two plates from the cupboard, this was the first time I have ever heard what my mum did after school. 'A month into the random course that I decided to do, your father had to stay in college late, so I had to wait for him to pick me up. At the time, there was this speaker that came into my college to give a talk if the students wanted to hear it, I didn't have anything to do so I went along. The man talking spoke about his job and I fell in love with it, I went to the man and introduced myself and that was it, I started training." She says turning around with two plates full of food, she places mine in front of me while handing me pepper and salt.
'What did you tell dad, I guess you couldn't tell him that you were training?" I ask sprinkling a little pepper over my eggs, not that any pepper actually went on them as I was too intrigued on the story my mum was telling me.
'I didn't need to tell him anything, he would drop me off at the college like normal, but I would be picked up by the man from the speech who would take me to training than drop me back off at the college for your father to pick me up." She explains taking a bite out of her food, my mind was just blown that she was able to pull all of that off without my dad suspecting anything!
'But why would the man that gave you the speech go through all of that trouble, yes I know you're great at your job now but back then, you were just this normal girl who just left school trying to figure out her life?" I say not even looking down at my food for even a second, why does my mother's life sound so interesting?
'He told me the day I spoke to him after the speech, that he saw something different in me and knew I was made to do the work he did. He told me it would take years of training but after, I would be one of the best spies this place has ever seen, and he was right." She smiles feeling very confident within herself, I mean I haven't seen her work yet so I can't really give my opinion on that.
'But what happened when you got pregnant with me and how did you tell dad about the work you do?" I ask as she brings my fork to my mouth so I could take my first bite; I did forget that my breakfast was sat in front of me for a second there!
'I told you father that I was offered a job as a lawyer due to my high grades in college and the matter of me being pregnant, Carl who was the speaker and my boss said that it was great. When I was more involved in the company, there would be no time for me to start a family so having you when I was still in training was a great thing." She smiles while I take a look down at my food, having me and then abandoning us was a great move!
Before we could talk any further, the front door opens and sounds of shoes getting closer fill the house. Before too long, Jackson was stood by the door smiling at both if us. I forgot that I had to stall my mother for as long as possible, I was too engrossed in her telling me her life story.
'Good morning, ladies, sorry I'm a little late the traffic was horrendous." He smiles walking further into the kitchen and joining us at the table, my mother looks down at her watch before her eyes go wide.
'That's quite alright Jackson but looking at the time I do have to leave. I'll see you two after work, stay out of trouble." She tells us before standing up from her chair and grabbing her stuff, in seconds she was out the door to leave for work.
'Did you, do it?" I ask once the front door had closed, Jackson smiles grabbing a new knife and fork from the draw before starting to devour my mother's leftovers.
'Oh yeah." Was all he says while stuffing his face.
