Underdogs
Jackson and I soon arrive back at my mother's house, we didn't really talk much after I said I never do what I'm told. I could just see he wanted to ask me what I meant, but he also didn't want to hear the answer at the same time.
Jackson was the first one to walk in the house but has to stop and look at me with a smile once he reaches the entrance to the kitchen and living room. At first, I was a little confused, but I soon remember that I had locked the door just before we left. I walk over and easily unlock the door, while he just looks at me dumbfound.
'One of my many hidden talents." I smile opening up the door, he shakes his head walking into the kitchen probably to get food. 'I do have many talents which aren't being put to use just sitting around." I say taking a seat at the kitchen counter, this does cause him to freeze whilst looking in the fridge.
'Your mum was serious Ally; she doesn't want you involving yourself in this case." He sighs taking out some yogurt, I haven't known him for very long, but I can see, food makes him happy.
'And I was serious when I said I don't listen to when people tell me to do something, do you really think I'm the sort of person to just sit around and do nothing?" I ask as he gets a spoon and sits across from me, but I wasn't done trying to persuade him to help me. 'It was clear to me that those guys, saw us two as the underdogs." I say where he does stop eating to look at me for a second, what I said really made him think.
'Ally, your mother is the person that tells me what to do because if I don't, I'll get fired. Your mother said I need to protect you; not help you catch some criminals that will be able to outsmart both of us with no trouble." He tells me which I didn't like, nobody can fully outsmart me, I'm the one that outsmarts them.
'Exactly, you were told to protect me no matter what happens! They didn't really specify what we would be doing while you were protecting me." I smile thinking of the many loopholes that we had, people really need to go over every little detail so people like me, can't find the holes! 'Come on Jackson, I haven't been around you lot for very long but even I can see how they treat you; they make you take the jobs they don't want to because they see you as weaker than them!" I say just trying to make him see that what I was saying, wasn't only going to benefit me but him as well.
'Ally, I like that you want to stick up for me but there is nothing we can do, we just have to sit here and wait until the big guys catch the bad guys." He sighs taking a huge mouthful of yogurt, but I could see by the look on his face that he was only coming around to my idea.
'How do you think they would feel if we were the ones that caught these guys, you the guy they overlook at every turn managed to catch people that were running circles around them, how great would that feel?" I smile while he pauses again, but a smile soon fills his lips. 'The way Reece spoke about you back there was awful, but when we do this and catch these guys, he'll have no choice but to shut his mouth." I say as he looks as though he was deep in thought, I just needed him to agree to do this with me and it'll all work out.
'If I were to do this and it's a big if, how are we going to pull this off?" He asks actually thinking about doing it, but I had already come up with all of that.
'You have the clearance to go to places and get things that I would never be able to, all we really have to do is get all the files and information that those guys already have and start looking into ourselves!" I say knowing how much of a task this sounded but if this all works out, my dad will be home safe in no time. 'If we do this, both of us will win. I'll be able to have my dad home safe again and you, you can show all of those people that undermine you or tell you you're not good enough, that you deserve to be in your position like they do." I say making it seem like it would be for the greater good, which in my mind it definitely was.
He looks away for a second slipping back into his thoughts, I knew I was asking a lot from him but in the end when it all works out, he'll see that I was right, and he should have just agreed to help me without a second thought! He turns to look at me where I just send him a smile.
'I don't know what is it about you Ally, maybe it's because your mother is this huge boss woman, and we all have to listen to her. Or it's because whenever you speak you do it with such confidence that makes me think that you know what you're doing, I just want to agree with you." He says with a little laugh, I was more shocked he thought I had confidence, I was really guessing at this point.
'See, now I just need you to say that three letter word that begins with y and ends in s." I say leaning forward as I spoke; he laughs looking at me shaking his head.
'Yes, I will help you, Ally." he smiles which instantly, makes me cheer and run around the counter to give him a hug. 'Now I have agreed, what's the plan if you have one?" He asks looking at me with a suspicious look, while I reach over and take his spoon from his hand.
'Of course, I have a plan." I smile before I shove a big heap of yogurt in my mouth.
{flashback to the night Ally left}
Peter pulls up at Ally's house with a smile on his face, he knew that Ally didn't want to go to this party but was only doing this to help him. He didn't really want to go either, but Holly told him she would try and persuade Ally to give him a chance.
He has tried so many times to make her see that he wants to be more than just friends, but she never caught onto how he was feeling and was worried she never would. In his mind, this was his last chance to make her see that he and her would be so good together!
He waits in the car for a few minutes, normally, Ally spots him outside and comes out while he waits in the car. But tonight, there was no sign of her which was odd. He pulls his phone out thinking she might be getting ready and hadn't noticed he was there, or she could have even fell asleep while waiting for him. But after a few moments with no response, Peter started to get a very uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach.
He climbs out of his car and walks over to her front gate; he knew she didn't go out anywhere because her car and even her dads was still parked outside. He walks over to the front door and knocks twice; the uneasy feeling only grows when he doesn't get any answer that way.
'Ally!" He shouts though the letter box, but his voice only echos through the very silent house.
He looks through the letter box to see if there was any movement, this is when he spots the back sliding door was wide open. He decides to go and check if everything was okay, he knew Ally and her dad should be home right now and even though Ally didn't like the sound of the party, she would never just blow him off.
He runs around the house and to the back gate, which was also wide open which does worry him. He walks through the gate and straight into the back of the house, where the lingering smell of smoke fills his nose.
'Ally!" He calls out to her once he was in the house, he walks through the kitchen where a saucepan was in the sink with cremated food sat, this telling him they were both in at some point.
He runs up to her bedroom to see if she was sleeping, but once he reaches her door, he spots her work clothes hanging up, but her purse was still sat on the counter. So, she had come home after work but went somewhere, but left her purse. He walks down the stairs after searching the house and heads for the back door, the only thing he could do now was ring her and hoped she picked up.
He pulls his phone out and dials the number, but soon after he hears the sound of a phone ringing around him. He follows the sound out of the back gate and towards the road, where laying on the grass beside the road was Ally's phone ringing. He walks over and picks it up to see his texts and calls lighting up the screen, but beside the phone was a tiny speck of blood which made his heart sink.
'Ally! Ally!" He called out but got no answer.
