Chapter Fifty-Seven
Neither of us spoke on the car ride to the warehouse, the vibe in the car was tense and anxious over the next moments ahead. In a few short hours, this whole situation with Richard could come to an end or take an even bigger shift and turn no one is expecting. In my mind I was going over the plan and everything that we knew, which helped me not to worry over the little details. From all the letters Richard has been sending me, we know he has some kind of care towards me so I don't think I need to worry about him surprise attacking us. But I also know how much Richard goes over things, he could have been coming up with this plan from the start and wants me to feel comfortable, than he'll attack.
What was keeping me even more calm were three things, how close Toby's pack was to the warehouse, the fact Brandon and the team would be watching our every move and finally, the fact I had Lukas with me. If I had to do this all by myself I don't think I would have agreed so quickly, but with him here it was less terrifying.
We were soon pulling up at the old warehouse, three lamppost still worked outside which illuminated the surrounding area a little, also making it feel like a horror movie of some kind. I pull over the car right in front of the building, but neither of us moved an inch. Taking a deep breath in and sending a nod to each other, we both open our doors and step out into the cold air.
"Where is he?" Lukas asks looking around the empty carpark, another car wasn't parked here which told me he either wasn't here, is hiding somewhere, or he could have came in wolf form.
"Maybe he's in the building" I suggest turning my attention to the old decrepit building in front of me, there were danger signs littering the outside wall which didn't make this situation better.
"Great, not only do we have to meet a crazy man whose been trying to kill us, but he now wants us to enter a building which could fall down at any moment" Lukas sarcastically mutters gesturing to one of the many signs, well when he puts it like that how fun!
I do a final scan of the area just to make sure he wasn't going to leap out and attack from behind, before we both start our journeys up the stairs and into the building, unknowing of what horrors could be concealed inside.
The place was dark and smelt like death, which isn't a good place to enter in the first place, but then add the crazy man we're meeting. I was unsure if there were cameras outside the building, but I knew for definite that Brandon and the whole team, including Toby were watching us. My eyes begin to scan the area for any sign of Richard, but every corner and corridor turned up empty. Maybe he got cold feet and decided not to go ahead with this, or he's late. We come to a metal bridge structure that went over a huge gabbing hole, why would this factory place just have a huge hole in the floor? It couldn't have been made after this place closed, or there wouldn't be a bridge. Lukas gives me a look before climbing the three stone steps to the bridge, placing one foot on the old metal it shook. Maybe we shouldn't be standing on this bridge, there has to be another way across. Once he takes another step, a huge piece of metal breaks off and crashes down in the hole below, I think that just answers my question.
"There has to be some other way around" I say scanning the area once again, in my mind I was trying to find the cameras but I couldn't see them either.
"I could probably jump over that" Lukas says stepping down from the steps around looking over tue ledge, he really wants to risk that?! "Yeah I'll make it over, piggy back?" He asks turning to me but he saw how shocked I looked, does he really think I'm just gonna be like yeah sure, jump over that huge ravine like place with me on your back?!
"You know I'm loving that idea, but when we have Richard how are we gonna get over it?" I ask thinking ahead, I also wanted him to think over what he wants to do more before he just does it.
"He can be our test dummy" he smiles which tells me he wasn't thinking this over at all, he really wanted to jump over that hole for some reason "come on Taylor you know you can trust me, I wouldn't openly put you in danger and if we did fall and that didn't kill me, I know Toby definitely would" he laughs which does make a little laugh escape my lips, yeah he definitely would.
I look at his face, it held such confidence which did make me feel better. If he's really this determined and thinks he can do it, I guess I trust him. I don't speak but instead, nod my head confirming I'm down for the plan. He smiles walking back slightly knelling down, I sigh a little walking over to stand behind him before jumping up. He stands up straight getting ready to run, I wonder what the guys are thinking watching us do this.
"Hold on tight" he tells me which I happily oblige, my arms were already around his neck holding on but I hold tighter, not tight enough to strangle him obviously.
He nods his head to himself before bolting towards the hole, I bury my face so I wouldn't see if he fell but I did feel us leave the ground. I felt like we were flying for a few seconds before we land, I lift my head up to discover we were now on the opposite side of the hole.
"See, I told you I'd make it over" Lukas brags as I jump down off his back, I roll my eyes at his cockiness but was very thankful that we were over the side safely.
As I turn around to look at the many rooms we now had access to, something sitting on the floor catches my eye. It was a white teddy bear with a letter sat in his lap, I look to Lukas who looked rather confused back at me. I slowly make my way over, taking the letter from the bears lap. As I take a look down I know for sure who it's from, not only did it have mine and Lukas's name on the front, I've come to recognise what Richards handwriting looks like. I open up the envelope to see a little note inside, it read.
"I knew you two would show up, come on the roof and meet your old dad after all these years"
I read out loud, Lukas takes the note as I look around for a staircase, but then something Brandon told us before I left comes to mind.
"Of course he wants her to go onto the roof!" I exclaim annoyed that I hadn't thought about this fact before "the roof is the only place which doesn't have cameras, that will be the only place the guys back at the alliance won't be able to see us and of course he knew about them, he used to visit Denton every day when we worked here" I say walking up and down, he could try to push us off the building or something and no one's gonna know.
"But we've come this far, we can't turn around now" Lukas says still holding the note in his hands, I knew he was right but I didn't want to believe it "we'll be okay, like I said I won't let him touch you" he smiles walking towards me, whilst handing me over the letter "let's make this guy pay for all the people he hurt over the years, but also for hurting you, it's finally time to get your payback" he smiles which does make a smirk form on my lips, I have been waiting for this day for years now.
He puts his arm out with a smile, I roll my eyes again but do take his arm and allow him to lead me towards the huge staircase.
Let's see where this goes.
