It was all a lie?
Chapter 14
It was all a lie?
I inhaled the sweet smell of the coffee in my hand and smile, swirling around in my chair. I turned around and watched the streets from my office, the sun simmering through but not too harsh on the skin. I smiled to myself and moaned happily. Things were going well and the day itself was bright and I'm reminded of the success and power I wedged in my hands. I tapped my hands on the desk, thinking what way would be best to celebrate this new victory. A party? I thought about it but discarded it. I'd wait till after the signing process and the gala organised by Crest Oils before doing mine.
My phone buzzed on the desk and I dropped the cup of coffee in my hands. I looked at the screen and saw who it was.
'Huhh," I groaned. Why does he have to call now when I'm in a good mood? Whenever Danni de Black calls, it is usually to spew random nonsense and look around for trouble. For as long as I can remember, he has always wanted to know what else I do underneath apart from Hotels and Suites but I know to keep it far away from the world. He must have had his doubts and so often, he's done some sniffing around me but he got nothing. If I was able to keep it away and marry Bella right under her father's nose and he didn't know, then I was high in the game.
I let the phone finish ringing without picking but no sooner had it stopped ringing that he called back again. Such a persistent bastard! He'd keep calling till I pick up
'Hello Danni ,it's quite unusual for you to call me. I must say that it's not really pleasant to hear your voice," I said as soon as I picked up. He let out a long laugh while I scoffed and rolled my eyes
'Oh, but I find joy in hearing yours. What's more? I only want to congratulate you on securing the deal with Crest Oils. I must say, you really worked….you know, hard for it."
From his tone, I knew he was sarcastic but I wasn't going to let that ruin my mood. It's a good day, I won't let some random beefers get under my skin
'News does travel fast,"I replied but seethed. 'It wasn't an easy feat, but I got it after all the hurdles. It was worth the stress though.. I'm sure you can relate," I said
'Was there really any hurdles per se?" He asked as if he was stifling some laughs. 'I can't help but wonder just how quickly things turned around, one minute the contract was almost mine, the second it got into your hands. Come on Royce, you know you are not really worth the contract. You must think highly of yourself to think that you got it hands down"
'Did I sense some kind of jealousy in your voice? And it was you, I almost lost too? Wow, well it's unfortunate that you didn't seize the opportunity presented to you. Sorry Danni, this is mine already," I teased. The bastard has the gut to call after after losing to me. Why can't he just go nurse his loss somewhere else?
'You are right about opportunity but don't make it look like you merit it. Deep down, you know you don't, wasn't the contract handed over to you like a master to its subject?" He said and I frowned. How did he come to be aware of such information? Did Myra rat me out?
'You are barking at the wrong tree Danni. I'm absolutely in the dark, care to explain what you mean?" I asked, feigning ignorance but I knew he already had his information he needed. He was aware of what Myra did.
'Quit the pretense Royce. It was Myra who made the contract find it's way back to you. You didn't really think it would be a secret right? I'd be disappointed if you thought so. Anyways, quick one, why would Mysterious Myra do that for you of all people? I mean, she's the newest and richest bitch in town right now, why would she do you that huge of a favour? Which led me to ask you what price it came for because you are and I know that nothing is free in this part of the world" he added.
What the hell was the bastard insinuating? That there was a price tag attached to the favour? I swirled around again and the streets which brought me calmness minutes again now did nothing to my mental health, in fact, it made me angry.
'There's no price anywhere," I replied. 'You see Miss Cullen and I share some understanding, hence the reason for her help. I didn't need to pay for anything. It was purely mutual understanding" I said.
'And what sort of understanding might that be? You think someone like Myra would help you without holding it against you or without asking for something in return? If you believe otherwise, then, your naivety is top notch." He said and beads of sweat went straight down my spine.
'Enjoy your handed over victory Royce but remember that nothing is free, " he said and ended the call abruptly, leaving me hanging. I threw the phone across the room in anger. What the hell was going on
Just how is it possible that Danni knows about this when it's not even up to a week? If Danni knows, it's no time before everyone else knows my business!
Why did Myra help me if she was going to go around, telling everyone what she did. Was her help a means of leveraging me? And the talk about price, she had handed me the contract saying she needed no form of gratitude in cash or kinds. Was all her talk a bluff?
'The bitch!" I said into the empty room. Here I thought she was meek and looks promising and can be trusted but she's a snitch? If she had gone ahead to tell Danni this, it means she has told all of my foes. In return, they'll keep taunting me. It was a matter of time before it escalated that I, Royce Robben was handed his glory
Cullen Myra! I thought with a deep frown adorning my forehead as I saw my reflection in the mirror on my desk. She dared to rattle me out, well two can play the game, 'I'm going to make you regret this," I said in fury.
