Jayden-the ghost
Chapter 41
Jayden- the ghost
The night felt especially thick with fog tonight. The kind of fog that sends shivers to the body. Christian drove through the thick forest, his hands tightened against the steering of the car as he wheeled it around. I sat beside him like a patient child, playing with the hem of my blouse. I could tell Christian was angry with what I was doing but I had no choice. It was a risk I had to take. With the confrontation I had with Danni the last time, it only shows that he's been sniffing around and probably getting the feeling that I too knew about Royce. If I don't play the game right, he might get me into trouble in order to spite Royce.
Christian turned again and began to slow down as we got to the front of an abandoned property in the middle of the thick forest. I looked around and sighed as I inhaled the smell of wood and mist. It was the meeting place with Jayden-the ghost, a man whose job is to deal with drugs with the number one dealers in each country. From what I've been told, he does his job perfectly such that if you hear his name, you could start peeing on your body but I wasn't one of those who'd do that. I've practiced this moment in my mind for a while and I'm going to ace it.
The intrusion of the headlights brought the attention of the men around and everyone stood up and cocked their guns. They aimed at our car, Christian turned off the headlight but the men were still visible and I could smell their sweat from afar. They were already in motion and could shoot if things went south.
'Give me the word Myra. Tell me to turn around and leave and I'd do so," Christian turned towards me,his eyes tight. I noticed the bulge in the side of his trousers and I smiled.
His gun, of course he came prepared too.
'I want to do this Christian. We are here already, there's no turning back." I said. He shifted on his seat about to say something but I wasn't listening. I opened the car and stepped out,the cool breeze hitting my skin.
The door in the front of the house opened noisily just as I took my first step from the car.
Jayden- the ghost.
He Indeed earned the name due to his appearance. He was a tall man and had a towering height that'll make his enemies cower. His taut muscles stood out under the dim light in front of the house. His entire body was covered in tattoos of different colours and shapes. He wore several piercings on each of the scars on his face, properly to beautify each of them. One of them however wasn't decorated. It was longer than the rest and ran across his face in a slant shape.
He wore a white sleeveless shirt that had a human skull drawn across it with swords on each side. By the time I took a good look at his scary figure, I had gotten to him and was looking at him with my chins up.
'Who the hell are you?" He vibrates but I refuse to be intimidated. I moved closer to him, with inches apart from him.
'I'm that person who's going to change your game. I said. I'm a game changer," I added.
'Game changer?" He queried and spat beside me. 'Answer my question right now if you don't have a death wish," he reverberated.
'I'm Myra, I'm here because I want to talk to you…about business of course, " I said and stretched my hand out which he refused to take ofcourse.
'You have some guts,to think you can show up here and demand a talk with me. Who the hell are you?. He asked again
'I'm Myra," I repeated. 'I want to talk to you and I will," I asserted.
Jayden glanced at Christian who had been shifting around me since the beginning.
'She's with you?" He asked but I beat Christian to it and spoke before he could.
'He's the one here with me, not the other way round. And why don't you listen to me first? I'm here with a deal worth more than whatever Royce gave to you." At the mention of Royce, he frowned, making all of the rings on his scars stand up.
'Come on in," he said. He turned around and walked into the house. Christian and I followed him till we got inside. Contrary to the dirty and unkept way the outside looked, the inside was presentable but of course dimly lit.
He took a seat on a long chair while we sat opposite him.
'I want you to stop working for Royce," I said as soon as my butt touched the chair. He had picked up the glass of alcohol laying on the stool beside him when he sat. Immediately I told him what I wanted, he slammed it on the stool, making it spill on the stool.
'Why the hell would I cut ties with him for you?" He asked in anger
'Because I'm ready to give you what he gave in multiple folds," I said
I noticed that some of the men behind him shifted their weight from one leg to another in surprise. However, Jayden wasn't shocked, all he did was stare at me in doubt.
'Multiple?" He asked finally.
'In five exactly," I replied.
‘Of course, you have to ask, you are a businessman afterall and the highest bidder wins,' I thought.
'I suppose you want something in return?" He asked.
'Of course. I need you to remain loyal to me and forget everything about Royce. Don't contact him nor engage in any business dealing with him." I deadpanned.
'Like hell I'll accept that. This is one hell of a business deal. What gives you the assurance that I'll do that?"
'Because you are a businessman. You already know no one can give you the amount I'm offering you." I said which of course is the truth.
'What kind of lethal game are you playing?" He asked, probably because he never expected that a woman could be doing what I was doing and saying.
'Oh, but I don't play games, Jay. However, I could play one if I found any foul play. Never must this get out nor must you say my name to anyone, especially Royce."
'And if I do?" he teased.
'Sylvia, right?" I asked and for the first time that night, I finally said something that got him because his breathing hitched immediately I mentioned his wife's name. 'Remind me of their names again, Christian."
'Richard and Irene,he said. Very adorable kids," he added and chuckled.
'Don't you fucking threaten me with my family. If even a strand of their hair git hurts, I'll ma—-"
'Of course not," I said, cutting him off. I held up my hands in a mock surrender. 'I won't do anything to those sweet souls. However," I said sharply with an icy tone. 'If you open your mouth carelessly or try to return to Royce, you wouldn't want to find out Jayden," I said and then replaced the look on my face with a smile
He watched from me to Christian several times, leaning back on the chair he sat on. The entire room became silent as he gauged his options. Several minutes passed before he sat upright and extended his hand to me.
'You have a deal. No more Royce," he said.
'That's what I thought," I smirked and then took his hand, shaking it firmly.
'You'll hear from me before the break of a new day, " I said and stood up, ready to leave. Christian followed behind me and we walked out the same way that we came in. The men outside stood upright as they heard footsteps. We both got to the car, I opened it and got in while Christian slid in too.
Christian began to reverse the car, ready to leave when Jayden got out too and began to watch us leave. Finally turning around and headed towards the town,I let out the air I didn't know I was holding.
'How did you manage to do that? You threatened Jayden-the ghost?" Christian asked in surprise and admiration. Even I didn't even know I could do what I did.
' Don't underestimate me Christian. I'll do even worse if it means that I'll get my revenge on him. So, this is nothing."
